THE FORMALITIES HELLO... My name is Emma and here is a little bit about me... A 21-year-old born creative, raised in rural Auckland, growing my professional practice after completing my Bachelor of Design at AUT in 2021. Over the last year, I stepped eagerly into the creative industry through a marketing role whilst also continuing to freelance in addition. Design, art, and craft have always been passions of mine, having always loved to get stuck in and hands-on, exploring creative solutions. This is why the pursuit of a creative career made sense. I pride myself on my organisational skills and willingness to learn, as well as my sharp concentration and creative initiative.

Along with my ability to work in a team environment, these traits are what I believe make me a valuable employee. My experience in the customer service industry alongside my previous work in creative marketing, the role has developed strong interpersonal skills, which I look forward to developing in future employment.

PROJECT ONE DU VAL GYM CLASS SOCIAL POSTS DU VAL HEALTH CLUBS 2022

Social Media Posts and TV Displays With the upcoming Du Val Health Clubs classes I was given a brief to create a series of posts and TV Displays in promotion for people to sign up. Using imagery shot by our in-house photographer I put together an eye-catching series of media using bold and colourful design within the look and feel of the gym and the exciting quality of the classes on offer. Presented in this section of my portfolio is a snippet of the work produced with two of the social posts and an example of the TV Displays on page 3.

PROJECT TWO DU VAL FIELDAYS DU VAL GROUP 2022 Event Collateral Designs

MEET THE TEAM AND RECEIVE A NATIVE SEEDLING TO TAKE HOME

With Du Val heading to Fieldays 2022 I was tasked with curating a campaign of collateral that advertised our attendance at the event and acted as a call to action for potential clients. Having a target market of farmers and rural folk, I wanted a campaign that fit within the regime of agriculture as well as investment and property. This is where the concept of “growth” was explored, using the idea of growing a seedling as an analogy of the growth offered by investments in Du Val’s Capital Funds and Property.

PROJECT THREE DU VAL GYM GIVEAWAY STORY POSTS DU VAL HEALTH CLUBS 2022

Social Media Stories and TV Displays Du Val Health Clubs wanted to get more involved with their clients on social media, as a result, there was a giveaway designed that encouraged people to tag the club to win! I was given the brief to create a series of social media stories and TV displays in promotion of this. Using similar brand cues to previous designs and found imagery of gym products I produced a series of social stories and TV displays (page 5).

PROJECT FOUR CHILDISH UNIVERSITY BRIEF 2020

Illustration and Publication Design A self directed final semester GRAD project. Childish was a practice-led research project investigating the Kiwiana aesthetic in order to create visual messages. Functioning as an experience of escaping from adult life to an imaginarium place of childhood.

Cover Design Front and Back

A printed book and set of puzzles that visually communicate the imagery I relate to kiwi childhood; From the places I have been, the toys I have played with, and the food I have eaten. The project contributed to knowledge in the field of graphic design by sharing a history of memories through a nostalgic aesthetic.

PROJECT FIVE DU VAL GROUP PRINT ADS DU VAL CAPITAL PARTNERS AND PROPERTY 2022 Magazine Spreads and Pages

Throughout my time at Du Val, I designed a series of Magazine DPS, SPS, and Newspaper Print Ads in promotion of Investing in Du Val Property and the Du Val Capital Partners Mortgage Fund. These Print Ads were featured in the NZ Herald Business Section, Kia Ora Magazine, and M2 Magazine. I worked closely with the other graduate designer and with the marketing team to establish the Du Val Brand and Campaign look and feel, bringing in leads for the sales and relations team. These Print campaigns were often paired with digital Ads, EDMs, and Billboards that targeted potential clients.

PROJECT SIX ARAMONA MILK PRODUCT UNIVERSITY BRIEF 2020

Almond Milk Product Design Product Design and photo-shoot for my minors business marketing brief. I was challenged to design a “new” product for the New Zealand market, developing an appropriate proposal. My target market was young adults in New Zealand suffering from lactose intolerant or were health-conscious. The chosen product brand Aramona means ‘almond’ in Maori, chosen to connect with the New Zealand market.

PROJECT SEVEN J&S GARDENS FREELANCE CLIENT 2022 Business Logo Design

Starting in industry I was challenged to create a new logo for an existing gardening company wanting to re-brand. I was sent an example of what they were looking for and a brief on the tone of voice they were after. Something bold and sophisticated that will work on clothing, business cards and as signage on a Ute. This was my first official logo design out in the design market. As much as I didn’t want to make the approach generic I felt that it was important to communicate clearly to the consumer on what service a business is supplying, therefore the inclusion of a leaf design was an important statement for this logo.

PROJECT EIGHT RUSSELL COFFEE CART FREELANCE CLIENT 2021 T-shirt and Signage Design

Within my first months of freelancing I was given an awesome signage opportunity, creating a vibrant promotional sign to go up in Russell. The brief from the client was to create something true to the beauty and lifestyle of Longbeach, Russell. Encouraging people to purchase from the local coffee cart on the beach and experience the beauty of Longbeach. After the completion of the signage I was reached out to again to design T-shirts for the client to sell alongside their coffee’s.

PROJECT NINE THE RIGHT IDEA UNIVERSITY BRIEF 2020 Publication Design

A Brief to explore publication design. Influenced by the concept of ‘ideation’, and how we as creatives must tackle coming up with ideas. Each class we explored and new concept and used these to curate a series of ideas in the final book. My publication explores a step by step guide to tips and tricks, getting the mind working and inspiring a designers next big idea. ‘The Right Idea’ concept stems from the theory that the right side of the brain is what we use to creatively think and do. PROJECT TEN SHOWJUMPING LOGO FREELANCE CLIENT 2022 Business Logo Design

A sophisticated yet fun combination logo design, being a new and smaller business its important that the logo communicates the company offerings clearly so that the client can build brand recognition. The beauty of the combination design is that in future designs the icon by itself can be used by the client in brand collateral. Whilst planning my approach to this design I had to consider budget as this was a start up business run by a young adult. Therefore I created a logo that wasn’t colour reliant so when the time came for the client to do apparel or other brand collateral savings could be made.

PROJECT ELEVEN THE GIRLS LOCKER ROOM SOCIAL INTERNSHIP PROJECT 2021 Social Media Poster

A self lead project completed at my internship at SignFX. I was asked to design a set of social media posters for an upcoming fundraising event. These were made to be posted on Instagram and Facebook in support for New Zealand Weightlifter Megan Signal. I worked alongside the client to design the given information in a friendly, girly and inviting way. Satisfying their intentions for the event and communicating the information clearly to viewers.
