Registration is now open for Our Lady of Charity's 2015-2016 school year. We offer an enriching, full day Pre-School program for 3 and 4 year old children. Due to overwhelming demand, we have been able to increase the number of Pre-School classrooms over the years. Experienced and professional teachers lead the children in an academic based curriculum. Using discovery centers and developmental play, our unit based Pre-School classrooms allow the children to share their talents and learn many skills. Classroom computers and listening centers provide many opportunities for the use of technology during the day. The Pre-School classrooms also teach religion and allow the students to learn about God's love for them. If you are interested in registering your child for the upcoming school year, please contact the school office at (708) 652-0262. Space is limited, so sign up today! Today’s gospel is fascinating. Jesus commands a leper to be silent in the face of his miraculous healing. Why? Jesus has good reason to ask him to be discrete: we’re still in the first chapter of the Gospel, and the Lord is not ready for the attention that his power will bring him. The healed man disobeys, with the result that “it was impossible for Jesus to enter a town openly.” There’s something to be learned in this act of disobedience. Perhaps, filled with the charity and joy that come from being Son of God, Jesus did not yet understand the misery of loneliness. We must assume that Jesus sincerely expected the healed leper to be discrete about the miracle done to him. Isn’t Jesus a bit naïve? But that is one of the wonders of the Gospel of the God who empties himself in becoming one of us: the Teacher becomes a learner. In this episode with the exuberant leper, at the beginning of the Gospel, the Word Incarnate learns one more thing about these humans He has come to save. He inches a bit closer to the mystery of human suffering. It is Jesus’ first-hand knowledge of suffering that will ultimately procure the healing and salvation of all of us…and that moment is still three years away. On Wednesday we will receive ashes on our foreheads in solidarity with sinners throughout the ages. We will receive them in solidarity with that leper, who was never really alone, and whose heart burst in his chest at God’s gracious, loving, saving power. We will receive them in pledge of a higher, purer life.

Chicken and pork count as meat, as well as beef. Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday by all Catholics who are 18 years of age but not yet 59. This means that those who are bound by this may take only one full meal. Two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one‘s needs, but eating solid foods between meals is not permitted. The Special Paschal Fast, as well as Abstinence, are prescribed for Good Friday and encouraged for Holy Saturday.

Could we feed the hungry through Lenten prayer, fasting and almsgiving? The answer was yes – and it came in the form of a small cardboard box. Forty years later, it still does. Now there is an app for that too. Rice Bowls will be distributed after Mass weekend of February28/March 1.

Estas personas sólo pueden tomar una comida completa, y dos comidas pequeñas si son necesarias para mantener las fuerzas, de acuerdo a las necesidades individuales, pero no se permite alimento sólido entre las comidas. El ayuno así como la abstinencia Pascual especial obliga el Viernes Santo y es recomendada en el Sábado Santo también.

La respuesta fue si – y llego en la forma de una cajita de cartón. Cuarenta años después lo sigue haciendo. Y ahora, también hay una aplicación para eso. Platos de Arroz se distribuirán el fin de semana de Marzo 1.

Las inscripciones para el año escolar 2015-2016 de la Escuela de Nuestra Señora de la Caridad ya están abiertas. Debido a la abrumadora demanda hemos tenido que aumentar el número de aulas de pre-escolar en los últimos años. Maestros profesionales y experimentados guían a los niños a través del programa de estudios académicos. Nuestras aulas de pre-escolares cuentan con centros de descubrimiento y juego que estimulan el desarrollo, permitiendo que los niños compartan sus talentos y aprender muchas habilidades. Computadoras y centros de audio en cada aula ofrecen muchas oportunidades para el uso de la tecnología durante el día. El Evangelio de hoy es fascinante. Jesús ordena a un leproso no decir a nadie sobre la curación milagrosa de la que ha sido objeto. ¿Por qué? Jesús tiene una buena razón para pedirle que sea discreto: Todavía estamos en el primer capítulo del Evangelio de Marcos, y el Señor no está listo para recibir toda la atención que su poder le acarreará. El hombre sanado desobedece, resultando en que Jesús "ya no podía entrar abiertamente en la ciudad…" Hay algo que aprender en este acto de desobediencia. Tal vez, lleno de la caridad y alegría que implica ser el Hijo de Dios, Jesús no entendía aún la miseria de la soledad. Debemos asumir que Jesús esperaba sinceramente que el leproso sanado guardara silencio sobre el milagro que le habían concedido. ¿No es un poco ingenuo de parte de Jesús esperar eso? Pero esto es una de las maravillas del evangelio del Dios que se vacía de sí mismo hasta convertirse en uno de nosotros: el profesor se convierte en el aprendiz. En este episodio del leproso exuberante, a principio del Evangelio, la Palabra Encarnada aprende una cosa más acerca de estos seres humanos a los que ha venido a salvar. Se acerca un poco más al misterio del sufrimiento humano. Jesús entonces conoce de primera mano el sufrimiento que eventualmente generará la curación y la salvación de todos nosotros... pero ese momento aún estaba a tres años de distancia. El miércoles vamos a recibir la ceniza en la frente, en solidaridad con los pecadores de todas las épocas. Vayamos a recibirla en solidaridad con ese leproso, que jamás estuvo realmente solo, y en cuyo corazón rebozaba el amoroso poder salvador de Dios. Vayamos a recibir la ceniza como compromiso solemne de quien aspira una vida más pura.
