APGCE 2022 FOREWORD

A MESSAGE FROM CHAIRPERSON OF APGCE 2022 MUHAMMAD YUSOF ABDULLAH On behalf of the APGCE Organising Committee, I warmly welcome you to Kuala Lumpur for the 10th Asia Petroleum Geoscience Conference & Exhibition, 2022. After a 3-year hiatus, APGCE returns strong this year amidst the dynamics and challenges we are experiencing within the industry. The world is learning and adjusting, and it is in this vein that the theme of APGCE 2022 was concocted. “Evolving Geoscience for a Sustainable Future” parallels the current state of the oil & gas industry. As we undergo fundamental changes, APGCE 2022 offers an ideal platform for industry movers to convene and engage in strategic discussions on how to enhance Exploration & Production activities in the face of the forthcoming energy transition. With geoscience at the forefront, there is a continued focus to also leverage on new technologies whilst aligning to the aspired greener options and upholding social responsibilities. This two-day conference offers a plethora of programmes, with collaboration between local and international expertise from diverse stakeholders, promising a comprehensive and high standard of technical sessions and sharing of leading-edge innovations. The Plenary Sessions aptly discuss topics related to energy transition within the world of geoscience and technology. These are complemented with Oral & Poster Sessions to incite meaningful discussions and exchange of ideas. APGCE 2022 continues to offer its signature ‘Core Session’. This year, apart from a suite of cores representing various depositional environments in the region, the session will showcase the value of digital core technology combined with key application of data analysis to unravel the subsurface understanding. As part of APGCE’s commitment to education and nurturing the future workforce in the industry, we will continue to host the Student Programme where participants will have the opportunity to network and tap into the years of experience of technical experts and seasoned leaders within the industry through the planned sharing sessions. There will also be Short Courses associated with this year’s APGCE. One is an integrated technical experience transcending from outcrop to core, while another offers a comprehensive overview of the much talked about ‘Carbon Capture, Utilisation & Storage’. Apart from that, based on the overwhelming response to the inaugural session introduced in 2019, APGCE 2022 will again host the 2nd Edition of the raving ‘GeoHackathon’ where participants will compete to create solutions using real Geoscience subsurface data, Artificial Intelligence, and data analytics. Attractive prizes await the winners. The Exhibition has always been a major attraction at every APGCE, providing visitors access to the latest innovations and ideas the industry has to offer. It is an opportunity to interact with the experts showcasing their solutions to address the many challenges amidst the current energy transition. I trust this year’s APGCE offerings will give you an enriching experience, and I thank you for your participation.

APGCE 2022 CONFERENCE PROGRAMME

APGCE 2022 OVERVIEW & THEME OVERVIEW

THEME

Evolving Geoscience for a Sustainable Future Whilst many would agree the past two years brought many challenges across various industries and respective value chains, few may recognise the opportunity created by the transition to an evolving new norm. Energy demands, whilst expected to increase globally must align to ‘greener’ values. Energy transition has become less about how and what we produce and operate but why. Concerns regarding climate change have led to oil and gas companies pledging net-zero targets. Recognising the role energy companies play to talent we recruit, the nature of hydrocarbons, the energy mix as well as the quality of our products. Technology, strategic focus, and product innovation will underpin not only commercial success, but the value created within a shared economic model. We are responsible for the impacts of our products. We must ensure our produced energy provides fair socio-economic development opportunities at a just pace of transition within the countries we operate whilst protecting our global ecosystem. A fair and equitable energy mix is also aligned with embedding a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
