Eureka held its first ever Summer Sauce-off Thursday August 4th. Eureka staff brought in all of their favorite salsas, sauces and dips to compete in this delicious culinary event. Everyone had a great time sampling the different dips and voting for their favorites. Eureka celebró su primer Summer Sauce-off el jueves 4 de Agosto. El personal de Eureka trajo todas sus salsas y aderezos favoritos para competir en este delicioso evento culinario. Todos se divirtieron mucho probando los diferentes dips y votando por sus favoritos. National Night Out in Saint Paul

Eureka had a blast at the National Night Out celebration at Conway Rec Center in Saint Paul on Tuesday August 2nd.

Eureka staff Mike Stoick & George Schulze attended and brought all kinds of fun! Mike brought his cotton candy spinner and spun up some sugary zero waste treats (with compostable cones!) and George drove ER-30 to demo for the attendees. Fun time was had by all and we were happy to part of this awesome community event.



Noche Nacional en Saint Paul

Eureka se divirtió mucho en la celebración National Night Out en Conway Rec Center en Saint Paul el Martes 2 de Agosto.

El personal de Eureka, Mike Stoick y George Schulze, asistieron y trajeron todo tipo de diversión. Mike trajo su girador de algodón de azúcar e hizo girar algunas delicias azucaradas sin desperdicio (¡con conos compostables!) Y George condujo el ER-30 para hacer una demostración a los asistentes. Todos se divirtieron y estuvimos felices de ser parte de este increíble evento comunitario.

Policy Corner Since testifying in front of Congress at the end of June, we have been busy responding to questions from congressional members on how to improve recycling infrastructure through policy change. Eureka will also be featured in an upcoming article in Bloomberg regarding the testimony and follow-up recommendations. In addition, we also recently submitted comments to the EPA on the use of federal funds to improve recycling infrastructure. Recommendations included: Equitable access to recycling collections services Workforce development to support the industry Investment in reuse and refill Technology upgrades In October, Eureka Recycling will host a group of 25 people working across the recycling and zero-waste movements from around the country to discuss the role recycling can play in addressing the plastic pollution crisis

Electric Recycling Truck Update Eureka is doing our part to prepare for a greener future by welcoming our first electric recycling truck to our fleet! Eureka expects to see our first electric truck on the lot by October. Stay tuned for more updates on our launch of this new, exciting and absolutely electric endeavor!

Meow! It's a warehouse kitten resucue! Eight young and fuzzy Eureka kittens & one momma cat were captured in early August by George S. & Mike S. in the warehouse. Mike and his family have taken all of the cats in and are keeping them happy and heathy until their intake at Twin Cities Pet Rescue. They have all been fittingly named too! Eureka (the momma), Elsa, Emmy, Eco, Ella, Ernie, Elmer, Edward & Escalator! These kittens and momma cat will all be available to adopt from Twin Cities Pet Rescue in a couple of months after they are fixed and vaccinated. Kevin Meech Transfer Driver Meet Kevin! Kevin is celebrating his 2nd work anniversary at Eureka this month. He's one of our rock star transfer drivers, responsible for delivering loads of cardboard and mixed paper to West Rock Paper Mill and glass to SMI in Saint Paul. Kevin has been driving truck since 2005 and says he really enjoys it. Prior to working for Eureka, he worked for ACE Solid Waste. He said that his experience working with our scale team is what really drew him to apply when a position opened up on our team. Kevin grew up in Akin, MN and still lives in that neck of the woods in Isanti. He works the early morning shift on the team, but says he enjoys the drives because it gives him a chance to listen to his favorite music and podcasts, like country singer Cody Jinks and Dirty Jobs podcaster Mike Row. In his free time Kevin enjoys rebuilding his '79 Ford pick-up and going to movies at his local theater. He says his favorite movies are the classics like "Smokey and the Bandit." Make sure to give Kevin a high-five and wish him a happy work anniversary next time you see him around the yard!

Kevin Meech Conductor de Camiones de Transferencia ¡Conoce a Kevin! Kevin está celebrando su segundo aniversario de trabajo en Eureka este mes. Es uno de nuestros conductores de transferencia estrella de rock, responsable de entregar cargas de cartón y papel mixto a West Rock Paper Mill y vidrio a SMI en Saint Paul. Kevin conduce camiones desde 2005 y dice que realmente lo disfruta. Antes de trabajar para Eureka, trabajó para ACE Solid Waste. Dijo que su experiencia trabajando con nuestro equipo de la vascula (scale) es lo que realmente lo atrajo a postularse cuando se abrió un puesto en nuestro equipo. Kevin creció en Akin, MN y aún vive en ese rincón del bosque en Isanti.
