PRINCIPAL’S REPORT

School Spectacular

Kindergarten Orientation

This week saw the completion of our kindergarten orientation for our new intake 2023. It will be a fantastic grade as they came with confidence and enthusiasm. It’s always inspiring and heart-warming to see the glee in their little eyes as they walk through our gates. Thank you to Ariella Gabbay, Kindy grade leader and David Andrews, Assistant Principal, for leading this important start to big school. We had our P&C representatives come along to talk to our incoming parents and share some wonderful community initiatives and activities. Thank you to Lisa Peles, and our P&C representative for speaking at this event and helping our new parents to feel welcome. Another special thanks to our Year 4 buddies who helped to ensure the days ran smoothly with their peer support, enthusiasm and care.

Teacher Professional Learning We are constantly upskilling our teachers at Bellevue Hill and this week was another wonderful learning opportunity for our staff with conferences on ‘Innovative Learning Environments’, ‘Curriculum Instruction’ and ‘InquiryBased Learning’. Teachers have enjoyed the connection with colleagues within our staff, and even had the chance to collaborate with principals, teachers and industry leaders from some of the highest performing countries across the world.

SUSTAINABILITY @ BHPS Green Team

What a glorious day it was today out in the garden with the sun shining and the butterflies fluttering. The Green Team students enjoyed tasting some of the ripe tomatoes and strawberries today. Alon told us how juicy and sweet they were. Our raised garden bed had been knocked over by the winds over the weekend, so a few students picked it back up, and replanted the herbs inside the bed. The soil had to be removed first, and the base of the bed needed to be shuffled around after the fall.

A few students were in charge of watering the plants today, which were in desperate need of a drink! Others did some weeding, to clean and tidy up our garden. Miss Levy and Miss Moore are so proud of our beautiful garden and how far it has come!

Recorder at BHPS We are very excited that In Term 3 Year 1 and Year 2 began learning recorder after a 2-year hiatus due to COVID. The students have been very enthusiastic during lessons and are making excellent progress. During lessons, students are learning about musical notes and note values. They practise rhythms and are very excited about each new song learnt. It is wonderful to see students remembering to hold their recorders correctly and to blow gently in order to make the best possible sound. We look forward to restarting the Primary Recorder Group in 2023 and hope to be able to send a group to the Instrumental Festival of Music at the Sydney Opera House.

If you have any queries about the Music Program, please contact Mrs Beck.

Promoting COLLABORATION, INNOVATION, CRITICAL THINKING & COLLABORATION in Year 3 Playground Design Furthering on from our investigation into different materials and their properties, the students have begun their collaborative research task. They are required to research and design new playground equipment for our school that is safe, fun and durable. The students have been busy researching different playgrounds in Australia (so that it meets our safety standards) to assist them in designing their playground, using appropriate materials that are durable. Keep up the great work Year 3!

Sydney East Regional Cricket recruits BHPS athlete Last week Janna (5K) and Jamie (5/6B) tried for the Sydney East Regional cricket team. A highly competitive inter-school cricket squad. Both students played excellent cricket and demonstrated superb sportsmanship on and off the field. Janna was one of twelve selected from sixty of the East’s best. She will be representing our region next year at the interstate competition. But that’s not the only competitive sport this all-rounder has on next year. Janna has also been selected for the 2023 Randwick Netball Association Squad. Congratulations, Janna. We look forward to supporting you on your sporting journey.

Sporting Achievement Noah H 4W participated in the Kids minimarathon in Berlin during his recent family trip back to Germany. The kids-only run is part of the official Berlin marathon– with a distance of 5km starting at Potsdamer Platz and finishing at the historic Brandenburg gate where the Berlin wall fell in 1989. Noah is already a BHPS districts long distance runner - he ran 5km in 17minutes. He and his brother Jonas presented to their classes on their family trip: they shared their experiences in attending the Nelson Mandela international school in Berlin with school starting at 7:30am and finishing at 4pm!
