We have had a week of exams in subjects including IT, Media, Business and Travel. Well done to those students that have completed these – hopefully all of their hard work will pay off with strong results. It is 3 weeks away to the start of mocks – please support and be mindful of your son or daughters’ extra work commitments. I have started the process of interviewing all Year 12 students on a one-to-one basis to start each thinking about what they want to do after they leave St Andrew’s. It is a way for them to progress their ideas if they have already started or to get some insight into what routes are available if they haven’t university, degree apprenticeships, apprenticeships, a job, gap year etc. It’s never too early to start thinking and we encourage you to start the dialogue at home if you haven’t already as insight from family experience is the best way for them to decide what works for them and how to match aspirations and goals with academic possibilities and skills.
Diversity In the UK, there are over 400,000 people from a Chinese ethnic background who contribute to British society. This month, as the British Chinese community begins to prepare to celebrate Chinese New Year on the 22nd January, the Geography department will be teaching KS3 students about Chinese New Year. Each week, we shall also be profiling a member of the British Chinese community. Furthermore, as part of our diversity provision, we will now be partnering with a school in Guyana. Last week, some of our senior prefects and our team of diversity champions sent them a video to introduce themselves and our school. Emma Raducanu Emma Raducanu is a British tennis player. Born in Toronto to a Romanian father and Chinese mother, she moved to the UK aged two and is an example of multicultural Britain. In September 2021, Emma Raducanu made history by becoming the first qualifier and youngest British player to win a Grand Slam title at the US Open. This unbelievable run saw her rise to British No.1 and inside the top-25 rankings for the first time in her career.
