02Tom Ford Patrons’ Building Integrating the Old and the New ISI Florence Study Abroad Studio Professor(s): Franco Pisani, Stefano Corazzini Semester: September 17, 2021- December 11, 2021 Project Location: Florence, Italy Project Description: Located in Piazza della Signoria adjacent to Palazzo Vecchio, a historically rich landmark, stands Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali. This adaptive reuse project respects the historic facade of Palazzo delle Assicurazioni Generali while scooping out the interior to create a new programmatic core for the Tom Ford brand. Therefore, when viewed from the exterior, one is able to experience the present shine from within the past. The core of Tom Ford Patrons’ Building is based on a fictional narrative written through the lens of Tom Ford, seen as follows: “To Whom it May Concern, It is remarkably important to me that I make an unforgettable impression on my investors. I need this space to not only represent me, but also the future of my brand. It needs to show that I am a zealous competitor in the world of both fashion and film. The creation of this edifice is the perfect way to promote and demonstrate my capabilities. It needs to be effective enough that the investors feel they are a part of the prospect of my brand. The building would be a tangible, grand advertisement. Some programmatic functions which I would love to incorporate into the design would be a grand entry sequence for my guests, a private entry for myself, an area to premiere my designs and films, an area reserved for the models to get ready, and a private suite meant to host VIP guests. In all honesty, when I’m not hosting a guest here I will be using this space myself. It would be nice to use the private circulation as a way to observe the reaction of the investors, view the show from many different angles, and receive a lot of natural light. Now I will get into some details and aspects of my brand which might be of inspiration in the design process. My perfect client is cultured, well-traveled, and intelligent. I need this idea to be kept in mind when creating the spatial experiences, as these are the type of people that will inhabit the space. I’m all about elegance, classiness, and glamor, however I’m not afraid to make moves that might be considered controversial. To A Successful Partnership, Tom Ford” 08 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks Right: Section Showing Suspended Structure

Raising the Roof: Creating a secondary lifted roof hints to the separation of existing facade and the suspended interior Creating Curiosity Through Light: Beams of light draw curious visitors in 10 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks Right: Section showing public circulation in alignment with facade

Expanding The Experience: Balconies line three sides of the Atrium overlooking the Catwalk, the fourth side untouched in order to provide a view of Palazzo Vecchio. 12 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks

Weaving with Stairs: The twists and turns of the staircase weave themselves through the existing facade until the user is unable to place interior from exterior. They create focus through disorientation, encouraging the visitors to be present with their surroundings. 14 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks

03Weymouth Community Hospital Integrating Architecture and Science Marywood University Summer Studio Professor(s): Catherine Armezzani Semester: June 6, 2022- July 9, 2022 Project Location: Weymouth, Massachusetts Project Description: Just like the fusion of cells or the hydrogen bonds connecting strands of DNA, a community is based on a group of individuals coming together to form a whole. Weymouth Community Hospital experiments with how this fusion can be represented architecturally through its form. The exterior wall draws inspiration from the structure of an actual cell wall. Each hospital ward has its own specialization, however the layout comes together to form a multi-use operating room used by all specialties. 18 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks

01 Visually Representing Geographical Information Systems (G.I.S.) Analyzing Site Experience Through Sight, Sound, Smell, and Touch Marywood University Studio Professor(s): Joshua Berman Semester: August 22, 2019- December 11, 2019 Project Location: Scranton, Pennsylvania Project Description: In order to execute thoughtful design meant to improve one’s community, the designer must first have a thorough understanding of the site. Not only should this include the factual site information (gathered with ArcGIS), but also an interpretation of how the user might experience the site. This map is an experiment with how one can portray the many facets of site analysis. 32 Design Portfolio- Cassandra Marks = Sound Density = Smell = Texture = Snowfall = Shadows = Busses = Cars = Pedestrians = Parking = Trees
