Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We have already arrived at the third Sunday of Advent, a Sunday to rejoice that the Lord is near. You will see the priest dressed in rose vestments today that signify the joy and love we are experiencing in our heart at the thought that the Lord will soon brighten our days with His radiant presence at Christmas. I hope your Advent has been gracefilled and prayerful. Let us continue on with our waiting for a little while longer and prepare our hearts to meet Him on Christmas day. Having finished the Novena to our Lady of Guadalupe and her wonderful Feast Day celebrations we are now ready for another Novena to prepare us for one of the most important Feasts of the Church year, that of Christmas. This second Novena which begins this coming Thursday is referred to as Las Posadas, which means a temporary dwelling place. As you know Mary and Joseph having gone to Bethlehem are searching for a place to stay because the baby is about to be born. However, as they search for a place to stay they are turned away until they finally come to an outdoor stable where the animals are kept. And here, of course, is where the Savior of the World, God Himself, is born for us. In this humble dwelling God has chosen to begin His life as a man. The Novena of the “Las Posadas” recalls this search for a dwelling place and calls forth from us a reflection on our own attitudes related to those who are looking for a place to stay. That includes our attitudes towards refugees, immigrants, migrants or homeless people. What do we do to welcome a stranger, our brother or sister who is in need of a place to stay? What a great Novena to get us ready for the humble “advent” of our might King!! Christmas and God’s entry into the human scene bids us look at how we treat one another. The Novena of the “las Posadas” will be celebrated each evening for nine nights. It will start at 6:30 p.m. each evening with a rosary, Mass, and

then be followed by a procession with candles and singing and finally a party with a piñata and something to eat and drink. The parish groups are in charge of making sure all is ready each evening. Thus we have the Lectio Divina Group on December 17th, the Virgen Peregrina on the 18th, the Niñas de la Pequeña Flor on the 19th, the Matachines and Liturgia on the 20th, the Cursillistas and Jovenes on the 21st, the grupo de matrimonio mundial on the 22nd, the Caballeros de Colon and the San Juan Bosco groups on the 23rd, and the Saint Toribio and praywr group on the 24th. Let’s hope that everyone does their part in preparing for this Novena and that everyone else comes and enjoys themselves!! This coming Thursday evening is also the Christmas production in the school. It will begin at 7:00 p.m. All the children of the school participate and it is a wonderful and joy-filled evening for everyone. It is held in the gym and usually there is a reception that follows. I haven’t received yet the final bill for the construction of the St. Toribio Chapel but as you can see the work is almost finished and so I am expecting to receive it soon. The building of the altar is a separate expense. I will let you know how much we still need to pay once I get the bills. Please help us if are able so that we do not end up with any debt. And if you can’t help us financially please pray to St. Joseph, St. Andre and St. Toribio to somehow find the funds that we need. We can’t really sustain a debt. Once we get the chapel paid for I would like to construct an outside pavilion from the new chapel all the way to the awning and make it as wide as the concrete outside of the chapel. Catholic Sisters Against Human Trafficking For many years now the Church’s commitment to the defense of human dignity has embraced different issues that attempt to diminish the image of God in every human person. Among these issues, human trafficking and labor exploitation are two of the most serious. As part of the Church’s commitment, we are blessed to have groups and associations that work directly for the prevention and end of human trafficking and labor exploitation. This Sunday, God rejoices and sings because of us. We read in Zephaniah today that God “will sing joyfully because of you, / as one sings at festivals” (Zephaniah 3:18). We know plenty about singing at festivals. Already our ears are ringing with the songs and carols that anticipate the Christmas season. Paul reminds us of the source of our own double rejoicing: God is the mighty savior who is in our midst (in Zephaniah’s words). Because this is so, says Paul, we can rejoice and be at ease. We don’t have to worry, for God’s peace will stand guard over our hearts and minds. A medieval carol depicts Christmas as “my dancing day” and urges us to enter into the dance. Why all the merrymaking? Because “the Lord is near,” as Paul reminds us (Philippians 4:5). He then points to another reason for the dancing: the dawn of the promise of peace, the peace beyond all understanding, that is now within our grasp. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

This week, our celebration of Advent makes a transition in ritual and texts. Beginning December 18, the countdown of nine days (a novena) to Christmas sees a heightened sense of expectation, and also a turning from the call of the Baptist in the wilderness to the events leading up to Jesus’ birth. In ancient Spain, December 18 was once celebrated as the “Feast of the Expectancy,” and customs grew up to heighten readiness in the homes. Some customs arise from monastic life and practice and spill over into our parish life. Beginning tonight, those who pray Vespers will sing in the opening phrase a beautiful title of Christ. These titles belong to a collection of opening phrases called the “O Antiphons” after the awe-inspired “O” sung on the first note. There’s a playful code in the titles: O Wisdom, O Lord, O Flower of Jesse, O Key of David, O Dawn, O Ruler, O Emmanuel. When you take their Latin names— Sapientia, Adonai, Radix, and so on—the titles form an acrostic when you read them backwards: “ERO CRAS.” In Latin, that is translated as “I will be there tomorrow!” It’s as if Christ were answering the prayers of the waiting people in the words of the prayers themselves. —Rev. Del Párroco: Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, Ya hemos llegado al tercer domingo de Adviento, un domingo para regocijar que el Señor se acerca. El sacerdote lleve vestimentas de color rosado que significan la alegría y el amor que estamos experimentando en los corazones al pensar que pronto el Señor alumbrara nuestros días con Su presencia radiante en Navidad. Continuamos esperando un poco tiempo más y preparamos nuestros corazones para verlo el día de la Navidad. Terminando la Novena a Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe y las fiestas, ahora estamos listos para otra Novena para una de las Fiestas más importantes del año de la Iglesia, la Fiesta de Navidad. Esta segunda Novena que comienza este jueves, se llama Las Posadas, que significa un hogar temporal. Como saben, José y María, llegando en Belén buscan un lugar donde quedarse porque se acerca el nacimiento de su bebe. Pero en su buscada están rechazados hasta que por fin llegan a un estable al aire libre donde quedan los animales. Aquí, claro es donde nace el Salvador del Mundo, Dios mismo. En este lugar humilde Dios comienza Su vida como un ser humano. La Novena “Las Posadas” recuenta esta búsqueda para un albergue y pide una reflexión de nuestra parte sobre nuestras disposiciones relacionado a aquellos que están buscando un albergue. ?Que hacemos para dar la bienvenida a los refugiados, los inmigrantes, los migrantes o los sin hogar? !Que Novena maravillosa para prepararnos por el “adviento” humilde de nuestro Rey! La Navidad y la entrada de Dios a la escena humana nos dice que debemos examinar como tratemos uno al otro. Celebraremos Las Posadas cada tarde por nueve tardes. Comienza a las 6:30 pm con el rosario, Misa, y luego una procesión con velas y cantos y finalmente con una fiesta con una piñata, refrescos y comida. Los grupos parroquianos son los encargados. Los encargados son: Lectio Divina el 17 de diciembre, la Virgen Peregrina el 18 de diciembre, las Niñas de la Pequeña Flor

el 19, los Matachines y el Grupo de Liturgia el 20, Cursillistas y Jóvenes el 21, el grupo de matrimonio mundial el 22, los Caballeros de Colon y el Grupo de San Juan Bosco el 23, y los Grupos de Santo Toribio y de Oracion el 24. Esperamos que todos hacen su parte en preparando por esta Novena y que todos los demás participen y se disfruten! Este jueves que viene también se llevara a cabo en el gimnasio el Programa Navideño de la escuela. Comienza a las 7:00 pm y todos los niños de la escuela participan. Todavía no he recibido la cuenta final de la construcción del Santuario de Santo Toribio Romo pero como pueden ver la capillita ya esta casi completa y espero ese bill pronto. La construcción del altar es aparte y es otro gasto. Les dejare saber cuanto necesitamos para no tener deuda. Favor ayudarnos si pueden. Y si no pueden ayudarnos con dinero favor rezar a San José, a San Andrés y a Santo Toribio que podemos hallar los fondos que necesitamos. Cuando el santuario ya esta pagado quisiera construir un cobertizo de la capillita a la escuela para tener convivios al aire libre después de las Misas. Me parece que esto es suficiente para esta semana. Las bendiciones del Señor a ustedes y a sus seres queridos. Nuestra espera forma parte de dos milenios de cristianos que buscan verlo llegar en las nubes. Desde el siglo VII la oración oficial de la Iglesia clama el retorno de Cristo con las exclamaciones llamadas las “Antífonas Oh”. Estas llaman a Jesús pidiéndole que venga bajo los títulos de Emmanuel, Sabiduría celestial, Señor de gran poder, Vara de Isaí, Llave de David, Alba de la luz, y Deseo y Rey de gentes, y algunos más. Estos refranes se usan aún todavía hoy durante los días 17 al 23 de diciembre, y unidas en un acróstico latino forman las palabras ero cras (estaré mañana), como respuesta a la petición cristiana. Eventualmente en el siglo X o XI estas antífonas fueron unidas en el canto gregoriano Veni, veni Emmanuel (Oh ven, oh ven Emmanuel).
