Local Updates Safety Update As a committee we are aware of the challenges that we face in Atlantic Wharf, from the anti-social behaviour taking place in the parks, to graffiti plastered walls around our canals. We have recently renewed our relationship with the Neighbourhood Policing team that covers the Atlantic Wharf area and as a committee we are committed to keeping Atlantic Wharf as safe as we can. But as with everything, we are not able to do this on our own. We need everyone to report all matters of crime to the Police, which you can do by calling 101, which is free, online via www.South-Wales.Police.uk, visit a Police station in person or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111. If you would like support, to inform us of an issue or just a general chat please make contact via [email protected] or our www.facebook.com/awraCardiff Recent Planning Applications: 22/01328/MNR (June ’22) – Erection of a conservatory to the existing Staybridge Suites hotel using the existing outdoor terrace. This will form part of the new coffee shop opening 2023. 22/01634/MNR (Aug ’22) – Change of use proposal from office (Class C3) to serviced accommodation (Class C1) for a new linked building to Cardiff Bay train station. This will replace Academy @ The Platform and will also include retail (Class A1/A3) and office (Class B1). 22/02204/LBC (Sept ’22) – Redevelopment of Merchant Place and the Corys Building into the new Cardiff Sixth Form College. Further land has been purchased behind the Cardiff Bay Premier Inn to develop as boarding accommodation for students. 22/02021/FUL (Oct ’22) – Atlantic House off Tyndall Street is proposing a change of use from education (class D1) to office (class B1). University of South Wales has now fully vacated this building and the owners believe there is no demand for future educational use and believe it is best suited to traditional office space. 22/02466/DOC (Oct ’22) – Proposal for 4 new-build 3 bedroom dwellings on land off Celerity Drive. 22/02856/FUL (Nov ’22) – Temporary construction compound to facilitate the new Butetown train station and existing Cardiff Bay train station for a period of 18 months You can see more details on all planning applications on the Council’s website, www.cardiff.gov.uk Trainline Update Over the next few years the train line that runs between the City Centre to the Bay will see a number of upgrades. This includes a doubling of the lines with a connection to Cardiff Central and a new station near the bridge between Lloyd George Ave and Loudoun Square. A letter was sent out over Christmas to residents from Transport for Wales with update on the works coming soon in the last few weeks, which you can read on our website (www.AWRA.wales)

Environmental Update During the autumn a number of dead birds were seen around the canals and Wharf area. Water quality and source tests were carried out, but no pollution causes were discovered. If you come across: • one or more dead bird of prey or owl • 3 or more dead gulls or wild waterfowl (swans, geese and ducks) • 5 or more dead birds of any species they should be reported to the Defra helpline, 03459 33 55 77. Sick or injured wild birds should not be reported to the Defra helpline. Instead, please contact the RSPCA on 0300 1234 999, who may be able to offer assistance.‘ Do not touch or pick up any dead or visibly sick wild birds that you find.
