Knowledge in dialogue Client seminar programme 2016

Preface

Dear Business Friend, Digitalisation and the Internet of Things (IoT) are drivers of new ecosystems, shared economies and ever-smarter homes, cars, factories and cities. Such transformations will result in fascinating solutions for our society, but will undoubtedly open up new challenges to professionals dealing with risk. Changing business models, risk interconnectivity and systemic risk are just a few aspects that call for a fresh look at risk assessment and new perspectives to develop appropriate risk management and insurance solutions with and for our clients. We constantly endeavour to integrate current developments such as those mentioned above into our “Knowledge in dialogue” programme which covers key topics in the fields of life, health and non-life insurance. It is the topicality and practicality of our seminar programme which leads our clients to see these seminars as the ideal platform for networking with our experts at Munich Re and sharing experiences with peers from around the globe.

We know that you are also interested in timely, easily accessible and targeted dialogue on current subjects. That is why we also offer webinars and local events which are not published in this brochure but are announced at short notice on our client portal connect.munichre. You are cordially invited to browse through this brochure and identify those subjects of interest to you. For further information, we kindly ask you to contact your Client Manager at Munich Re. We are very much looking forward to engaging in dialogue with you. Yours sincerely,

Torsten Jeworrek Member of the Board of Management and Chairman of the Reinsurance Committee

Technische Versicherungen

Marine – Field days Port and factory visits

Marine insurance is among the longest-established forms of cover. However, it is not only the centuries-old tradition but also the international character of the risks and, not least, the combination of different subclasses that make up the unique and distinctive character of marine insurance. The field days of the marine seminar take place at a German North Sea port – usually in Bremerhaven and Bremen. They are designed to illustrate risk situations found in ports and during trans-shipment and storage by acquainting participants, under expert guidance, with day-to-day operations in an open seaport. One of the highlights is a visit to a shipyard in Papenburg. This external part of the marine seminar is an optional extra and can only be booked in conjunction with the marine hull and cargo seminar. The subsequent hull, cargo and reinsurance seminar takes place in Munich. Content −−Shipyard, shipbuilding −−Seaport trans-shipment practice −−Cargo trans-shipment (ro-ro, high and heavy, etc.) −−Storage and logistics facilities, storage and trans-shipment of cars −−Loading and maintenance of containers −−Seaworthy packaging Target group Marine insurance professionals with several years’ experience in underwriting or claims. Please note Since the number of participants is limited to 15, early booking is recommended. Further details of the schedule and costs will be provided separately. Language English

Reinsurance accounting – Non-life Methods, calculation and settlement

The risk borne by the insurer and the risk accepted by the reinsurer result in a sharing of risk at terms contractually agreed by and between the companies. Enterprise risk management workshop Requirements – Challenges – Solutions

Enterprise risk management is going global: the trend toward risk-based supervision is becoming increasingly visible. Regulatory regimes based on risk capital requirements, comprehensive risk governance structures and Own Risk and Solvency Assessment (ORSA), to name just a few, are being built up worldwide. Corporations should start proactively establishing a comprehensive system of governance in which business management decisions are embedded in a sound risk management framework. However, the regulatory perspective is not the only reason to engage in enterprise risk management. The enhancement of business management gives a strong internal impetus to risk-oriented decision making. In fact, ERM is not about limiting business opportunities. On the contrary, it enhances risk-adjusted and also profit-driven approaches to business management: there is no profitable business strategy without a solid risk strategy. Content Our workshop serves as a forum for an exchange of views amongst participants in quantitative or qualitative risk management positions. Following on from numerous workshops and on the basis of practical examples from Munich Re, we will work with you to produce realistic and relevant ERM solutions. −−Approaching relevant ERM components: functions, models, systems, processes and controls −−Measuring and managing qualitative as well as quantitative risk drivers −−Practicing and stressing scenarios in the context of ORSA-related risk and usiness strategies b −−Challenging insurers’ business models in the light of relevant emerging risks Target group Experienced managers and senior specialists with quantitative or qualitative enterprise risk management, audit or controlling responsibilities. Dynamic analysis of risk and reinsurance techniques – DART

The rapidly evolving and dynamic business environment around us is a constant reminder that change is indeed inevitable. We at Munich Re have always been at the forefront of market developments because we place great emphasis on being innovative and forward-thinking in our business approach. This philosophy also translates into our client services. As our preferred risk partner, we are proud to present to you this interactive and innovative workshop. Aptly titled DART – Dynamic Analysis of Risk and Reinsurance Techniques – this course is designed to deliver the message of dynamism at work in the world of risk, insurance and reinsurance. Content Munich Re’s one-week DART training programme is an interactive workshop that guides participants from the risk management phase through to the end result of the marketing, negotiation and placement of an outward reinsurance programme. The training will work around one specific risk scenario. From the initial risk management assessment, participants are taken through the considerations involved in reviewing a quotation slip, the terms and conditions to bear in mind, through to the pricing of the product. They need to decide how best to fit the risk into the existing reinsurance programme and to consider how to deal with those areas which do not necessarily correspond to the existing reinsurance capacity. Throughout the week, we will also be addressing the efficient management of claims and, to round things up, the participants will negotiate the placement of their reinsurance programme, putting into practice marketing skills they have acquired during the course.

Risk management

Singapore

With the assistance of experienced lecturers and tutors (either from Munich Re or specially selected guests from the insurance market), participants will work together in groups to develop the theoretical and practical facts into a tangible insurance and reinsurance product. In the process, they will develop their understanding of the steps involved in the analysis of such a risk and learn how best to present it to the reinsurance market. The practical nature of the workshop is underlined by a visit to a selected site to review the risk management procedures in place. Target group To achieve maximum mileage from this workshop, it would be helpful if the participants had a good knowledge of either property or liability insurance and a basic understanding of reinsurance. Given the active participatory nature of the workshop, a sound understanding of English is a distinct advantage. Casualty claims seminar

Most insurer claims departments are forecasting a growing need for experienced adjusters. The need arises both because of changing demographics – with significant numbers of experienced adjusters likely to retire in the coming years – and shrinking training budgets. Claims operations at Munich Re America recognise this need and are helping by offering their own general claims expertise through a training programme as a service to clients of Munich Re. Content The programme’s objective is to increase the general skill level and encourage proper decision making among primary carrier claims departments. The programme is very practical and hands-on, sharing information about principled, fair claims processes. Individuals are expected to return to their jobs with the ability to share their new knowledge with colleagues. Target group The ideal participant is a casualty claims adjuster with at least five years of experience. Language English Venue tbd, USA
