PROLOGUE

LIGHTS OF CENTRAL “Know that darkness is merely the absence of light. You can be the small candle that defeats the vast darkness.”

As Christians, we have the power to make the world a better place, and as Pastor’s Kids, we have the obligation to radiate the light and ray of hope that is planted in our hearts. In a world full of darkness, hatred, and guilt, a tiny spark of ember can be just as big as a burning fire. As the lyrics of a famous children’s song say, “This little light of mine, I’m gonna let is shine.” We Pastors' Kids can lit up a city when we hold our light as one. We can say that darkness is not a presence. It is just the absence of light. Join us as we look back and reminisce the activities of the Lights of Central.

EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

BIBLE STUDY AND DEVOTIONAL

It has been a "tradition" for the Pastors' Kids organization to have a weekly devotional and bible study program. For this school year, the officers and advisers decided to carry it out every Monday, 5:00-6:00 PM at Hopevale Memorial. It involves singing of praise and worship songs, prayer time and a short message which is usually delivered by one of the advisers, Rev. Francis Neil Jalandoon. It is a heartwarming experience for all the members to bond with their fellow Pastor's kids. They do not only get to know each other, but also grow together as Christians.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS FOR S.Y. 2022-2023

As a new chapter of the Pastors'Kids organization begins, we elected a new set of officers to lead and guide their fellow PKs. Together with our advisers and alumni, it was conducted last August 9, 2022 via Google meet.

LEADERSHIP TRAINING SEMINAR Last February 3-4, 2023, Central Philippine University held a LEADERSHIP TRAINING SEMINAR for Recognized Student Organizations of S.Y. 2022-2023 at Alumni Promenade Concert Park, with a the theme, "Becoming globally relevant: CPU Orgs living through EXCEL!" Our speaker was Dr. Margen ArandelaJava, the Director of Student Development and Programs at Central Philippine University together with Mr. Matt Java. This seminar talked about living a life that matters, improving one's personality, and equipping the student leader to meet challenges.

FELLOWSHIP AND INDUCTION PROGRAM

Last November 29, 2022, Pastor's kids gathered together in Sambag Baptist Church, Jaro, Iloilo City to Fellowship and also Induct the new officers for the school year 2022-2023. The fellowship and induction program was an overnight activity with the theme: "Immutable God in an Ever-Changing World", with the text found in the book of Isaiah 46:10 and Hebrews 13:8.

The program started with a praise and worship jam together with the pastor's kids and also some pastors and ministers. Ptr. Neva Grace Fabila delivered the word of God leaving the organization with words and hope for the glory of God. The newly elected officers also took their oath and was prayed over. The night was filled with fun and games as the officers prepared and organized for it. The pastor's kids felt comfy and cozy in their pajamas as they spend the night talking about the goodness of God until the gaze of dawn.

CEW 2022 INVOLVEMENT

The CEW 2022 Praise Jam, with the theme "Awakened," was attended by a large crowd composed of students, faculty, staff, Alumni, and even students from other campuses on November 9 at the CPU Big Field, flooding the campus with joy and celebration by praising God. It was a day of celebration, a revival, and a thanksgiving to the Lord for his faithfulness and goodness! Having worship teams from various departments can bring a diverse range of talents, skills, and perspectives to the worship experience, which can help create a dynamic and engaging atmosphere for the congregation. It's wonderful to see people coming together to serve and lead in this way, using their gifts and talents to glorify God and bring others into His presence. Rev. Cris Amorsolo Sian gave an inspiring message to the people. The metaphor of being a city on a hill is drawn from Jesus' teachings in the Bible, where He encourages His followers to let their light shine before others, so that they may see their good deeds and glorify God. By being a city on a hill, you can be a beacon of hope and refuge for those who are lost and searching for meaning and purpose in life. As followers of Jesus, we are called to live out our faith in such a way that others can see the love and grace of God at work in our lives. May this challenge inspire us to continue to shine the light of Christ in your community, and may you be a source of hope and healing to those who are in need of God's love and grace.

CEW 2023 INVOLVEMENT

The theme "Soar" is a powerful reminder of the potential we have as believers to rise above our circumstances and challenges, and to reach new heights in our faith journey. The text in Isaiah 40:27-31 speaks to the strength and resilience that comes with trusting in the Lord, even in the midst of trials and difficulties.

This passage reminds us that God is always with us, even when we feel like we're struggling or alone. By putting our trust in Him, we can find renewed strength and energy to keep going, and to rise above the challenges that come our way.

As you participate in this CEW, may you be encouraged to lean into your faith and trust in the Lord, knowing that He is always with you and will give you the strength you need to soar to new heights. May you be filled with a sense of hope and optimism for the future, knowing that with God's help, you can overcome any obstacle and achieve great things.

The week-long celebration was concluded on March 17 with the highly anticipated Praise Jam, which took place at the Big Field. The Praise Jam is a wonderful way to conclude the celebration and bring together members of your church community for a time of joyful praise and celebration. It's important to take time to let loose and express ourselves in worship, whether that's through singing, dancing, or other forms of creative expression.

This is a great opportunity to celebrate God's love and grace and to reflect on all the blessings and goodness that He has poured out on your church community. It's a time to lift our voices in praise and gratitude, and to connect with others who share our faith and values.

BOOTH EXHIBIT

In a religious organization, an exhibit booth can serve a variety of purposes, depending on the goals and objectives of the organization. Last January 16-17, 2023, the CPU Pastor's Kids Organization collaborated with the CPU Gospel Team to showcase to the university who may not be familiar with their beliefs, practices, or programs. The booth provided information about the organization's mission, values, and services, and offer opportunities for visitors to ask questions and engage in dialogue.

The booth created a welcoming and inviting space where members of the organization can meet and connect with each other and with visitors. It also offered an Evangelistic bracelet, free candies, and free coffee. The music ministry of both organizations did some busking as a form of outreach or evangelism, using music as a way to connect with people in public spaces.

Overall, an exhibit booth can play an important role in helping a religious organization to fulfill its mission and connect with its community. By creating a welcoming and engaging space where visitors can learn, connect, and explore, an exhibit booth can help to build relationships and promote understanding and acceptance of different cultures and beliefs.

FELLOWSHIP WITH CPU GT

Fellowship is a gathering where people who share the same interests and have the same ideals, join together and associate themselves with each other. This back to school fellowship with the CPU Gospel Team was conducted on January 28, 2023 at Johnson 201 with the theme, “Comeback” and the text is found in Psalms 37:23-24. The speaker was Ms. Aimie Grace Labestre, a Registered Psychometrician. This activity was carried out with a purpose to start the 2nd semester by having camaraderie with our fellow Christians while filling our hearts, minds, and souls with God’s Word.

PAW WITH CPU GT

In praise and worships, you get to express your heart to God. Part of praise and worship is speaking, singing, declaring, and announcing who God is, His power, and who you are as a child of God. It depicts a bond between you and Him. In the said activity, members of CPU Pastors’ Kids Organization and CPU Gospel Team used their talents in singing and playing instruments to glorify God’s name by singing songs of praise and worship.

TESTIMONIES

KEZIAH RUTH BALDONASA CPU PK President

As a PK, it's difficult to face the world's cruelty. We were criticized, judged, and underestimated. We must separate our life from others and strive to meet the standards of others since we are Pastors' Kids. However, God is always with us. He will never leave or forsake us. Those criticisms, along with those of other PKs, shape us into better individuals. This gives us the confidence to show them our God-given talents and abilities. So I take this opportunity to inspire my fellow PK. As a PK leader is an honor and a responsibility. It is not easy to accept responsibility, and we faced numerous challenges, but with the grace of God, we prevailed.

SHENYLEEN JUNGCO

CPU PK Public Information Officer

As a Pastor’s Kid, life’s surely not easy. Expectations of other people sometimes feel like a burden you have to carry every day. You are expected to act like a perfect, holy person even though you’re completely the opposite of it. And sometimes you are being compared to other kids with cliché lines like, “Maayo pa si ano, kabalo mag amo sini,” “Maayo pa to bata ni ano, amo sini,” etc. Sometimes these lines may hurt, but let us not forget that we don’t have to prove ourselves to others just to be amiable. It’s not the people of this world whom we have to please, our aim is to glorify God in everything we do. We don’t have to be like those kids who are being compared to us, because we are Pastors’ Kids. I may not be like those other kids who have much talent to offer, but I show up whenever I am needed; I cannot give what I do not have, but I can spare my time and give my efforts to help the organization and through this I may bring glory to God.

TESTIMONIES

KRISS KRINGLE INGE BANCOLO CPU Pastor's Kid

As a pastor's kid and a student leader in Central Philippine University, I can honestly say that my experiences have been both challenging and rewarding. Being the child of a pastor, I grew up with a strong sense of faith and a deep understanding of the importance of community involvement and service. This foundation has been instrumental in shaping my values as a student leader and has guided me in my roles as Vice President of CPUR.

In my time as a student leader, I have been privileged to work with a dedicated team of individuals who share my passion for serving the student body and improving the quality of campus life. Together, we have organized a variety of events and initiatives aimed at fostering a sense of community and promoting student well-being. From academic support programs to cultural events, we have strived to provide our fellow students with opportunities to learn, grow, and thrive.

Of course, being a student leader is not without its challenges. As Vice President of CPUR, I have faced many obstacles and setbacks along the way. But through it all, I have learned the importance of perseverance, teamwork, and humility. I have also come to appreciate the power of communication and the need for effective leadership skills.

Overall, my experiences as a pastor's kid and a student leader in CPUR have been incredibly enriching. I am grateful for the opportunities that I have had to serve my community and to develop my skills as a leader. And I am confident that the lessons that I have learned will serve me well in whatever path I choose to pursue in the future.

SELF EVALUATION

The CPU Pastor's Kids conducted several activities this school year such as the continuation of our weekly Bible Studies and Devotionals, Fellowships, and joining several activities facilitated by the CPU Republic. To be able to reach more people and fellows in Christ, we also partnered with different organizations, participating in their fellowships and community outreaches. It has always been our desire to be able to extend help and be God's instrument of light in this world. Thus, we've done these activities with great effort to bring God all the glory and honor.

As far as our activities are concerned, the organization, with the grace of God, was able to pull off and adjust to the major changes brought to us by the transition of going back to face-toface activities.

When the pandemic happened, all our activities were held online, but now that we are again able to meet each other face-to-face, we are glad that our activities were pushed through with the efforts of the officers and the guidance of our advisers.

Adjusting with the changes and challenges brought by this health crisis, the organization has a long way to go and has so much more to learn just as when we meet physically and plan for our fellowships and outreaches. But looking back, as a family, we were able to accomplish many things, and that is because of God’s leading in the organization plus all the members and officers’ passion to serve as servant leaders - as best exemplified by Jesus Christ.

WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT

PTR. NEVA GRACE FABILA CPU PK Adviser

To be called a PK is both a blessing and a risk. It is a blessing because you identify with God’s servants and the work your parents are doing in kingdom building. It is a risk because you make yourself vulnerable to be people’s unreasonable expectations of what a Pastor’s Kid should look and behave. But still be proud that you are a Pastor’s Kid. Your life is a living testament of God’s faithfulness and abundant grace. A Pastor’s Kid is someone who excels while living in simplicity and humility, someone who knows how to have fun in a way that pleases God, someone who honors the Lord by honoring the dignity of your parents. Shine your light at Central, PK! Make your parents proud.

Pastors' Kids

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:16
