HOW TO RIDE THE BUS
Step One – Check the Map
Step Four – Board the Bus
To begin, look at the color map in the middle of this guide and find the routes that serve your travel needs. The map uses colors and letters to designate the routes. Please keep in mind that you may need to take more than one route during your trip. Once you have identified your routes, you are ready to look at the schedules. Bus stops are identified on the map using the following icons.
All bus stops are marked with a Roseville Transit bus stop sign.
Bus Stop − The bus stops only if there is a passenger boarding or exiting the bus at this stop. Timed Stop − The bus leaves at the scheduled time as shown on the route schedule. Transfer Point − The bus leaves at the scheduled time as shown on the route schedule. Departures at these stops are scheduled to help passengers switch to other routes or transit providers.
Step Two – Check the Schedules Schedules are listed by letter in this guide. Find the schedule for the route you are riding. Read left to right to find the time the bus will get to your destination. Read top to bottom to determine the times between buses at any individual bus stop. Next, check the header for the stop where you want to board the bus. If that stop is not a Timed Stop or a Transfer Point , then find the closest Timed Stop or Transfer Point on the schedule prior to where you want to board. The bus will leave that stop at the time shown on the route schedule. Arrive at the stop five minutes before your bus is scheduled to leave.
Step Three – Check the Fare Review the fares on page 2 of this guide. Single Fares are good for one boarding. If you plan on riding the bus frequently, it may be more economical and convenient for you to purchase daily, 10-ride or 30-day passes. For discounted fares an ID card is necessary. Present it to the driver when boarding (see page 3 for accepted IDs).
As the bus approaches, make sure the driver can see you. Check the display above the bus windshield to verify you’re catching the correct bus. Be prepared to board by standing away from the curb until the bus has made a complete stop. Before boarding, allow passengers to exit and permit the driver to assist wheelchair passengers. Board the bus and insert your pass or exact fare in the fare box. Exact change is necessary since drivers do not give change. If you are paying a discounted fare, the proper form of identification must be shown to the driver (see page 3). When the bus is moving, stay behind the standing line and out of the stairwells. If the bus is crowded, please move to the rear when you board. If standing, please hold onto the stanchions or overhead straps while the bus is in motion.
Step Five – Leave the Bus When the bus is about one block from your stop, use the stop cord located by the windows to signal the driver that your stop is approaching. After the bus has come to a complete stop, gather your belongings and exit the bus.
Accessible Service The seats closest to the front of the bus and near the door are reserved for elderly and disabled passengers. Assistance with passenger lifts, wheelchair securement, and fare payment is available when necessary or upon request. Drivers are required to secure all wheelchairs before proceeding. For easier and faster securement, straps are available by calling 745-7560. All buses are equipped with lifts, ramps, or the ability to “kneel” by lowering the front steps, making boarding easier. Please let the driver know if you need assistance. For additional assistance in reading Roseville Transit maps and schedules call 745-7560. You may also use the Google Transit tool at www.roseville.ca.us/transit to plan your trip.

Ride the bus for free on Spare the Air Days Poor air quality is a health threat to everyone in the Sacramento region. When air quality reaches an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 150 or higher, a “Spare the Air” day is announced. During the summer months, when air quality is at its worst, Roseville Transit provides FREE Local and Commuter services when a Spare the Air day is predicted. This helps the region reduce the amount of vehicles on the road that create air polluting emissions. To receive Spare the Air day predictions subscribe to Air Alert—a free service that notifies you via e-mail or text message when air quality in the Sacramento region is forecast to be unhealthy. It’s easy to enroll and you can stop the service at any time. Sign-up at MyAirAlert.net. Program implementation based on approved grant funding from Placer County Air Pollution Control District.

DIAL-A-RIDE
About Dial-A-Ride Roseville Transit Dial-A-Ride (DAR) provides complementary paratransit and public bus services. DAR is a shared ride transit service that operates within the city limits of Roseville. Anyone can use DAR, it is not limited to seniors or persons with disabilities. Passengers are transported in small buses that are ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant and equipped with wheelchair lifts and securement areas.
How Dial-A-Ride Works
Accessibility
Rides are reserved 14 days in advance up to one day in advance, and passengers share their ride with other passengers traveling in the same general direction.
See page 1 for information.
Passengers receive a 30-minute pick-up window when they make their ride reservation. The Dial-A-Ride bus can arrive any time within the 30-minute pick-up window. Passengers must be ready and waiting for the bus at the curb at the beginning of the 30-minute window and plan for a ride time up to one (1) hour. Drivers wait for passengers at the curb of a public street, as close to the designated pick-up location as possible, for no longer than two (2) minutes. Upon request, drivers can assist passengers in getting on and off the bus. Drivers are not permitted to assist passengers with carry on items.
Uses for Dial-A-Ride Anyone can use Dial-A-Ride for traveling to medical appointments, shopping, commuting to work, meetings, parties, sports events, recreation, visiting and much more. An adult or responsible youth must accompany passengers under age 11. Roseville Transit does not provide emergency, gurney, or door-to-door service. Also, DAR cannot be used for transporting school-age children to and from school, or school-sponsored activities, regardless of whether they are traveling alone or are accompanied by an adult.
Dial-A-Ride Hours Monday–Friday: 6 a.m. – 7 p.m. Saturday & Sunday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. See page 5 for Dial-A-Ride holidays.
Dial-A-Ride Fares See page 2 and 3 for information.
Reserving a Ride Ride reservations are accepted 7 days a week from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. To make your reservation, call 745-7560 or TDD: (888) 745-7885.
Canceling a Ride If you need to cancel your ride, call 745-7560 more than two hours before your scheduled pick-up window. Otherwise, you will be recorded as a no-show. The cancellation line is always open. Please provide the following information to the dispatcher, or by leaving a message: • • • • •
Your name. The day and date of your appointment. The time of your appointment. If you are canceling your trip one or both ways. A phone number where you can be reached on the day of your trip.
No-Show Policy Passengers receive a no-show when they fail to cancel a reserved or subscription ride at least two hours before the 30-minute scheduled pick-up time, when they are absent from the location at the scheduled pick-up time, or when they are not ready at the scheduled pick-up time. A violation of the Dial-A-Ride No-Show Policy will result in a $7.50 fee. This fee must be paid within 21 days or future trips will be suspended until the fee is paid. Please note that if a passenger is a no-show for the pickup, the return trip is not automatically canceled.

Complementary ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Paratransit Service If you have a disability preventing you from using the Local Service, you are eligible to receive curb-to-curb, and upon request, origin-to-destination priority service on Dial-A-Ride in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The City of Roseville staff determines ADA eligibility through an application process. This application is used to determine the extent of your disability as it relates to using the Local Service. ADA-qualified passengers may reserve rides 14 days in advance, up to one one day in advance, on Dial-A-Ride. ADA passengers must show the driver an ADA photo ID when boarding. To request an ADA application call 774-5293, TDD: 774-5220, or download it online.
Temporary ADA Paratransit Eligibility An individual may be given temporary ADA eligibility on Dial-A-Ride if the disability lasts more than 90 days and is long-term, but is not permanent.
Non-ADA Certified Persons with disabilities visiting the City of Roseville should contact the Alternative Transportation office in advance of arriving to determine eligibility for ADA visitor status. Receiving ADA Paratransit service beyond 21 days requires an eligibility determination by the City of Roseville.
ADA Paratransit Recertification When it’s time to recertify your ADA Paratransit status, you will be mailed a recertification application to the last known address. To continue eligibility for Complementary ADA Paratransit service, the recertification application must be returned prior to the eligibility expiration indicated on the ADA Photo ID card.
Where to Apply Alternative Transportation office 401 Vernon Street, Roseville (916) 774-5293 Open Monday–Friday: 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. ADA ID cards are free.
ADA Paratransit Visitor Status Visitor status provides rides for up to 21 days in a year for priority service, curb-to-curb, and upon request, origin-to-destination service.
ADA Certified If you are ADA certified from a transit agency other than the City of Roseville, contact the Alternative Transportation office so that you may request presumptive eligibility. Receiving service beyond 21 days requires an eligibility determination by the City of Roseville.
Passenger Conduct & Rights
Information on the Passenger Code of Conduct can be found online, or by visiting the Alternative Transportation office.
