'1 understand the bLisiness from the inside out' SUZANNE AMADUCCI-ADAMS ON uzanne Amaducci-Adams' work cis an attorney brings her closer to two of her passions: the hotel industry and boating. She represents some of the biggest real estate develop ers in South Florida as she heads the 33-attorney real estate practice group for Bilzin Sumberg. Many of her clients are in the hospitality and marine industries, and she's helped them secure $6 billion in hotel loans and build mixed­ use projects around working marinas. That's like mixing business with pleasure for Amaducci-Adams. She previously worked in a hotel and, for decades, enjoyed life on the water. Her sport fishing team recently took second place in the Final Sail competition in Key West. Back on dry land, Miami Dade College retained her to represent it in negotiations with three developers for the development of 520 Biscayne Blvd. at its downtown campus.

He said: "If I gave you $250,000 , what would you do with it? " I called him back the next day with a whole plan. My father said : "You don't need to go to business school. You already have a plan. "

How did you get interested in sport fishing? I always fished as a kid. It was part of our family time as a kid in , Cape Cod. My husband"when I met him, was a professional sport fishing captain. We do it for fun as a family. I take clients fiShing. I do organizational tournaments for CREW. I [help clients] buy, sell, develop and finance marinas, so fishing tournaments tie into that beautifully. The fishing community i is a very small commupity, and a lot of real estate developers are in that community. I Imow a lot of my clients' kids. It creates a much stronger bond and relationship. What's the largest c~tch you've ever hauled in? We took first place in largest mahi with a 31-pound mahi, which is pretty big. I'm searching for a blue marlin. My ll-year-old caught a blue marlin on spring breal< this year, but I haven't. What's your favorite boat you own? I love my 15-foot Boston whaler because. it gives me freedom to cruise around and check things out. I have a wooden sailboat. I call it Beetle Cat. That is how I learned to sail as a kid. What are the best ways for South Florida developments to incorporate marinas into their projects? That's much harder than it sounds. The marina business is a unique bUSiness. It's not really a real estate business, it's an operating business. It's like running a hotel, but you don't get to clean the rooms. The trick to being a good operator is to understand what the boat owners and crew need, finding the best mix of monthly rentals, daily reritals and transient rentals. It's very difficult to be a successful or profitable marina owner. What's your proudest accomplishment as an attorney? I really enjoy working with the Christoph family. We did a development in Key West called Conch Harbor Marina. We worked on that deal for over 10 years. I worked with them on Miami Beach Marina, as well, and also on Steelpointe Harbor in Connecticut. It's like a good long book. I enjoy working with families. When I first started, I worked only with the father,and now I work with the sons, too. I have worked for them for 18 . years. - Brian Bandell

Although radio station W JPR, found at 1640 on the AM dial, has just a three-mile radius and can be heard only in Edison and Highland Park and some parts of New Brunswick, East Brunswick, and Piscataway, it has an international reach through the Internet at 1640WJPR.com and Tunein radio. Gordon, 56, said he gets listeners "from around the world," in particular for the broadcast he does at night. "I have listeners from England and Eretz Yisrael." How does he know? "They comment on social media." Al Gordon broadcasts Jewish programming The station, he said, is a part-IS AM station, which from the Edison studios of W JPR, which he means it is "low power." That designation allows owns and operates. him to operate WJPR without a Federal Communications Commission license. Although Photo courtesy Al Gordon there are still regulations and guidelines that must be followed, under FCC licensing rules, stations generally must stay on-air around the clock; WJPR does not broadcast on Shabbat and certain religious holidays. In 2011, Gordon said, he was looking for a way "to do something for the local community." Tapping into what he knew best to do, he launched WJPR. " I got a transmitter and a lot of equipment and got a location on the dial no one else had," he told NJJN. Gordon describes the station as having a "hybrid format ," with Jewish broadcasting during the day and early evening and rock and roll oldies through the night.

The campaign of Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton announced Monday morning that rival

Bernie Sanders will join her for a campaign event in Portsmouth on Tuesday.

The Vermont senator is expected to endorse Clinton at the 11 a.m. event at Portsmouth High School.

Sanders defeated Clinton in the New Hampshire primary in February,

The two will "discuss their commitment to building an America that is stronger together and an economy

that works for everyone, not just those at the top," the announcement said.

Despite having pledged to take his campaign to the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia later this month, presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders is expected to throw his support behind rival Hillary Clinton during a campaign event in New Hampshire next week.

The New York Times reported Thursday that Democrats involved in the planning offered that the endorsement could come Tuesday as Clinton campaigns in the Granite State. Details regarding the event have yet to be announced. The decision to hold the possible endorsement in the state would be reminiscent of 2008 when Clinton and then-Sen. Barack Obama traveled to Unity. New Hampshire for their first big joint rally following a hard-fought primary. According to the Times, sources said the endorsement comes in part from daily talks between Clinton's Campaign Manager Robby Mook and Sanders' Campaign Manager Jeff Weaver about bringing the two together and advancing the Vermont senator's policy priorities.

Chris Cano, who serves as the elected precinct committeeman for the Hillsborough Young Democrats and who is also the Vice President of the Democratic Hispanic Caucus, is in hot water over a Facebook post in which he bashed Hillary Clinton. "I posted, 'If she's inspired by a professional co** su**** then perhaps we now know what Wall Street is in our pocket. Hillary admires Kim Kardashian'," said Cano, about his Facebook post. In a letter from the Hillsborough Democratic Party chairman, Cano was told he had until Monday to take the post down or the party would initiate the "action of removal". But the Scotts didn't give in, and two years later, the extravagant marijuana rigs are an eighth of their gallery's inventory and sell for just as much as many traditional glass pieces. Established art collectors invest in bongs and even purchase insurance for them. That's not to say life as a Sunshine State bong-maker is easy. Just three years ago, state Rep. Darryl Rouson tried to ban all retail pipe sales. His push failed, but smoke shop owners and artists must say their work is for tobacco use only - even if it's a tongue-in-cheek disclaimer. If a piece breaks, artists risk a possession charge if they agree to pick up andflx a piece full of pot residue. Many local glass artists who make pipes use fake names and prefer to work in the shadows. Floridians will decide in November whether to legalize medical marijuana, a move that could narrow the gap between flne and functional art. Some of South Florida's most talented glass artists are pining for the change, but in the meantime, they're still selling their work for thousands of dollars on Tnstagram and in local smoke shops. From a vaunted art-school grad to the region's flrst salaried glass artist position, they're

displaying their artwork with pride to break the pothead stigma that has undermined their

trade.

"Over the years, functional glass art has been one of those things that refuses to be ignored," Jay Scott says. "Galleries will slowly have to accept this is art. As a business, we knew that the only way to stay relevant was to evolve with the times."

Chadd Lacy, clad in a green shirt that reads "Make Pipes Not War," pulls a glob of molten glass from a 1,080-degree kiln inside his cramped studio without air conditioning in Boynton Beach. The boyish 34-year-old glass artist lowers his didymium goggles, which block harmful UV rays, and ignites a geyser of orange flame at the torch. He blows into a glass rod and inflates the transparent bubble.

One of Lacy's whale pipes can sell for as much as $7,000. After hours of delicate exhales and careful flicks of his wrist, Lacy will mold the body of a foot­ tall sperm whale sculpture that doubles as a pipe. They're all one-of-a-kind and not in the style of cartoonish animals created by other glass artists. The whales are typically designed so that marijuana (or tobacco) is packed in the blowhole. A hole by the tail is for inhaling, and a harpoon acts as a dabber. Lacy's final product is aimed at heady art aficionados with some serious cash to invest. One of his whale pipes can sell for as much as $7,000. He connects with clients either through direct message from one of his 7,061 Instagram followers or by selling through smoke shops, some as close as Kendall's Holy Smokes and some as far away as Just Another Gallery in San Diego. "It's the weirdest thing; there's this culture of dab kids and heady boys that are so enthusiastic about this," Lacy says, shaking his head. "Now I don't understand the enthusiasm, but I don't question it." Lacy didn't plan a lucrative bong-making career. After graduating from the Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia in 2004, he moved to Ohio to teach glassblowing at the Cleveland Institute of Art. He never expected to leave academia; he had seen too many classmates abandon their art for the stability of a 9-to-5 job. But he was intrigued by the others who had segued into the functional-art world. He had dabbled with pipe-making in art school for fun. "In the last four to fIve years, a lot has picked up in the heady-glass world, and more people appreciate the artistry," he says. "T came in late to the boom, so it was important that I carved out a niche."

Lacy's fme art has been exhibited in galleries across the globe. One of his pieces features fIgurines of tree stumps and rain clouds juxtaposed with houses and business suits. The piece hints at man's lack of control over the natural world, he says. When Lacy Sidestepped into the functional-art world, that same theme carried over. After reading Herman Melville's Moby Dick to his wife and fellow artist Adrienne DiSalvo, the pair concentrated on creating whale rigs together. That was two years ago. The duo moved to Florida last July. Now, Lacy blows the glass whale body, and DiSalvo engraves the exterior from designs in her sketchbook. "At fIrst, they were just sculptures with no function," DiSalvo says. "Then he made larger whales, and it all just meshed together. He got so much traction, and it just took off."
