Carolina Orchards Clubs and Groups
February 2023
Aging Caregivers Support Group While there are residents in Carolina Orchards caring for
family with memory issues, this group can also address
residents with Parkinson’s disease who are beginning to lose
mobility and memory function. This peer to peer support
group shares in staying a step ahead of the aging process of
loved ones we are caring for. Anticipation of safety issues
should be the priority. If you have someone at home and
worry about leaving them alone for short periods, this group
discusses when to intervene, and how to find outside help.

Americans for Democracy and Equality Zoom Meeting February 28th Americans for Democracy and Equality will continue meeting on Zoom for the time being.
It's a convenience thing, not so much a COVID thing at this point. Our February meeting
will fall on the last day of the short month, Tuesday, February 28, at 6:30. Watch your
email and our Discussion section in the LifeStyle Link for the month's Zoom link.
We are a left-of-center political group, which we realize puts us a little out of sync with
much of South Carolina. But not as far out of sync as you might think. In the 2022
midterms, between 35 and 45% of the vote went to Democratic candidates, depending on
the office. That's a minority, but a substantial one. Democrats only win in concentrated
'blue' areas like Rock Hill, but our presence and participation is always important.
In the CO ADE group, you can talk politics in a welcoming environment. You can also learn
about the wider landscape of progressive politics in York County and the state. Outside
our monthly meetings, I encourage you to post comments, notes and information in the
Discussion area of our LifestyleLink group. A few of us 'live and breathe' politics. Most
people - even Democrats and Progressives - do not. We're not expecting you to, either.
But we are dedicated to assisting in building an 'informed electorate'. It's hard to keep up.
We're here to help.
See you on the 28th! (On Zoom) - Gary Pearce, President, CO ADE
Bereavement Group Next Meeting: February 14th at 10:30
February is Heart health month, so let’s talk about your heart and
how you are coping with the loss of your loved one
The Bereavement Group will meet on February 14 at 10:30 in the
Magnolia Room. Our group is a support group that is safe place to talk about how you are feeling without any judgement, only
love and support. We cry, we laugh, we share wonderful
memories, some sad, but many times funny ones! Please feel free
to join us and if you have any questions please contact Deb
Saccacio at
[email protected].

Bible Study for Ladies of Carolina Orchards Contact: Ann Monza
December always seems to fly by, but I pray you were left with sweet memories of
time spent with family, friends, and your neighbors here in the Orchards. I also hope
you were able to attend our Christmas Cookies and Caroling Event at the Grove on
December 5th. There were almost 100 people present at the Grove that day making a
joyful noise and munching on delicious homemade cookies. It was a wonderful way to
herald the Reason for the Season! It's bound to become a yearly event!
But it's now the beginning of a New Year with new opportunities to join us in Bible
Study. While the weather outside might still be frightful, our Bible Study groups are
warm and inviting and offer the opportunity to grow closer to like- minded neighbors
as we study God's Word and ultimately grow closer to Him! We invite you to go to the
BSLCO group page on the Carolina Orchard's website. Click on the sign-up genius link
to view the studies offered. Request to join the one that most interests you and has
an opening. The group's Organizer will then contact you about where and when
they'll next meet. Whereas we used to all meet on the same day at the same time and
participate in the same study, there are now a variety of study options and meeting
times to choose from. Several of our studies are yearlong and began in September,
but a couple will be brand new and begin in January. All will conclude in May with a
celebratory Large Group Ice Cream Social! We sincerely wish you a Blessed New Year
and look forward to meeting you soon!

Cyclepaths Winter has a bit of a grip on us, but riding isn’t too bad at this time. In fact,
some of our cold days here in SC would be like a spring day up north. What
better way to enjoy the outdoors than to take a bike ride. CyclePaths is a co-ed bicycle group of Carolina Orchards residents. It’s a great way to get
your exercise in, meet new community people, and get some fresh air.
Rides take place around Carolina Orchards and on greenways in Charlotte
and Rock Hill. The rides are between 10 to 15 miles at a noncompetitive
pace three times a week, weather permitting. The biking takes place on
paved roads and graded trails with some wood and concrete deck
connectors. There is no trail or mountain biking.
Rides: MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, and FRIDAY at 9:30 am.
Rides on Mondays & Fridays are on a variety of greenways in the Charlotte
& Rock Hill areas. Riders should meet at the Grove parking lot by 9:30 am.
Riders will depart by car to the greenway trails. If you do not have a bicycle
carrier, riders with additional space on their carrier will try to
accommodate.
Wednesday rides are at 9:30 am and stay within Carolina Orchards
community. Riders meet in the Grove parking lot. So, if you are looking for
some exercise and to meet new neighbors, come on out and join the fun!
Added Twist! For those of you who would like to take a ride and then have
lunch, on the last Friday of the month we will add a lunch stop on the way
back to the CO. The ride in February will be on Friday the 24th. We will ride
the McAlpine Creek Greenway. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday,
March 15 at 1:00 pm in the Blossom room at the Grove.
Should you need more information, contact Tom Injaychock, president at
[email protected]. If you are not a current member, simply go to

The new selection for the Great Courses will be January 17. will be
Ordinary Americans in the Revolutionary War. This series will be taught
by Professor Richard Bell of the University of Maryland, you’ll discover
the American Revolution from a startlingly different perspective: not the
perspective of the Founding Fathers, who were people of wealth and
privilege, but of the common people who made the revolution happen.
Over the course of 28 lessons, you’ll meet the soldiers, midwives,
artisans, shopkeepers, farmers, enslaved people, and all the other men
and women—European-American, Native American, and African
American—with whom the success or failure of the American Revolution
depended. Without these people, there could have been no revolution The video lectures are presented in the Peach Room at 1:00. This series

Pickleball Club A Message From Tom Granger:
As we move into a new year, I would like to thank Kevin Clancy for his leadership as
President last year. There are always a few glitches that have an effect on various
events, however, his guidance helped the events run as smoothly as possible. I would
also like to thank Reto Corbetti for his two years of service as Treasurer. Reto
implemented the current financial reporting program being used, which provides a
easy to use system that generates professional looking financial statements. Lastly, I
would like to thank Gary Keller for his service as the Chairman of the Court
Monitor/Equipment Committee. Gary also chaired the committee that developed the
Open Play Guidelines. These Guidelines were designed for players to play with others
of the same skill set. These Guidelines are still a work in progress, but will be necessary
as the sport continues to grow and the number of players continues to increase.
There is a change with the PB Board for 2023. Steve Prince resigned his position as
Treasurer in early January. Dave Claspell was appointed to serve as Treasurer until the
next general election. The Executive Board unanimously approved his appointment at
the January 11, 2023 meeting. Thank you, Dave, for volunteering your services.
The new Board is looking forward to working with club members to continue to
improve upon existing events and create new events for everyone. We look forward to
increased participation in events. More participants generate more excitement for all.
See you on the courts!

four reasons for hope. The first is the indomitable human spirit; the
second is the resilience of nature; the third is the human intellect and
the last is the power of our young people to make a positive impact...
Now let's get back to reality. Two major holidays in February,
Valentines Day & Presidents Day. Valentines Day initiates romance and
love throughout the world. Why don't we throw candy, flowers & cards
at one another rather than bombs? Then there is Presidents Day. We
celebrate past & present Presidents birthdays ( are you kidding ). The
only gift we need is ( one's birthday with safety and health ).
Shalom

Singles Club The Singles Club is looking forward to an active year in 2023. We did not meet in
January as our new leaders organized for the year. We have a team of people who will
be taking on various leadership roles this year. Our meeting in February will be on
Monday, February 13 at 6:00 pm. We will have a game night playing Mexican Train and
Rummikub. For refreshments we will have soup or chili made by our own chefs. The
evening will also include selecting activities and organizers for the year. A second activity in February will be attending a performance at the Fort Mill
Community Playhouse. Information on reserving your ticket will be sent to each
member.
The Singles Club is made up of men and women who do not have a partner. We are fun-
loving people and strive to provide a way to enlarge your circle of friends in Carolina
Orchards. If you would like to join the fun, go to www.carolinaorchards.org, click on
groups. When you find Singles, click and ask to join. You will get a notice that invites you
to join. It is as easy as that. Look forward to seeing you. For additional information

Tailgaters Tailgaters Club was created early in the development of Carolina Orchards. The purposes of
the group was to be an adjunct to Lifestyles providing social events inclusive of food and
entertainment for our residents, and partner with Lifestyles for other events. The type of
events we have managed in the past include, a St Patrick's day dance and Irish dancing
demonstration, an Octoberfest celebration including an oompah band, a Super bowl party, a
run for the roses Kentucky derby bash, and an Italian dinner party and dance, to name a few.
We have also partnered with Lifestyles to cater a Memorial Day party, Fourth of July
celebration, Friendsgiving(Thanksgiving) dinner, and Veterans Day breakfast. We are able to
make money on our events because our club members volunteer to not only manage the
events but actually provide the person power to run them. Our goal is use our profits for
projects that benefit of all residents where funds may not be available from other sources.
Tailgaters meets each month at the Grove. Meeting dates and times are available on the
Carolina Orchards website under the Tailgaters club section. We invite you to attend our
meetings and join our group of about 150 residents. We are always looking for new
entertainment ideas, how we can use our funds for the community’s benefit, and for another
pair of helpful hands. Attend one of our meetings to learn about what we do or send an email

Travel Club We have 3 trips for 2023 scheduled and are working on more!
The first trip is to Ireland and Scotland in April 24th - May 8th. This is a bus tour lead
by Joan Lowes. Then we go to Iceland and Greenland on the Norwegian Star July 3rd
for 10 days lead by Sharleen Brett. Sicily is our last trip of the year and it is
September 16th - 23rd lead by Karen Gorin. Everyone is invited on the trips including
friends and family not living in Carolina Orchards. For more information on the trips,
contact Steve Lenard at
[email protected].
We are also looking to create a more social atmosphere to facilitate the desire for
group travel in the community. Our next meeting will be February 21st to discuss the
status of upcoming trips and potential new trips. Following the group discussion
there will be free time for everyone to stick around and share some food and drink
while we seek to continue building the club.
