Urban Denver Tours: RiNo and Street Art
The River North Art District — located north of downtown and known to locals as RiNo — hosts some of Denver’s favorite restaurants, breweries, wineries, distilleries, coffee shops, clubs, concert venues and, as the name implies, art galleries and artist studios. One of the most popular times to visit is in the summer.
Black American West Museum Preserves the history and culture of those African American men and women who helped settle and develop the American West. Located in the former home of Dr. Justina Ford, the first Black woman doctor in Denver. Exhibits on African American cowboys including Bill Pickett.
Ed Dwight--Ed Dwight Studios Denver is the home of the Ed Dwigt Studios. Ed has focused his direction on the Fine ArtsGallery Paintings & Sculptures, Large-scale Memorials and Public Art projects. Since his art career began in 1978, after attaining his MFA in Sculpture from the University of Denver, Dwight has become one of the most prolific and insightful sculptors in America.
Dr. Justina Ford Transcended Race, Gender Although Dr. Justina Ford never had children of her own, to Denver — and especially the Five Points neighborhood — she is an important maternal figure. In her role as Denver’s first African American female physician, Dr. Ford delivered thousands of babies, many of whom still live in The Mile High city today.
Five Points District
Cultures blend in historic Five Points, one of Denver's oldest and most diverse neighborhoods. The district was known as the "Harlem of the West" because it was a frequent stop for jazz greats including Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Miles Davis, who played clubs like the Rossonian and the Rainbow Room. The neighborhood was also mentioned repeatedly in Jack Kerouac's "On the Road."
Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs The exhibition Egypt: The Time of Pharaohs at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science transports you to the distant past to explore ancient Egyptian culture and the land of pharaohs. More than 5,000 years ago, Egypt became a state that unified many cities and towns along the Nile River.

2 23 BPW DENVER
Warmest Greetings from the National President: It is my greatest privilege and honor to issue the Call to the Hybrid 84th National Convention of The National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Incorporated. The theme for the 2023 convention is “PURSUING BLACK EXCELLENCE WITH PURPOSE AND PASSION.” I want to extend my deepest gratitude to Governor Marvell Phillips and the members of the “Wondrous Women of the West” Western District and especially the women of the 5280 BPW Club, our hostesses. We will start our week on Monday, July 17th with a tour of the greater Denver area African American historical sites. Throughout the week you will have the experience of embracing sister and brotherhood amongst our members, Beta Psi, and youth. This year we will be viewing the Mary E. Singletary Vocal Arts Competition at the Denver Opera House where our contestants will be showcased. You will also have an opportunity to greet our Past National Presidents face-to-face and hear their historical stories as former leaders of this great organization and how they managed to overcome obstacles during their administrations. I am excited and looking forward to seeing you as we celebrate and pay tribute to Past National President Frankie Jacobs Gillette at the Life Members' Luncheon and Dr. Beryl Dorsett at the International Jazz Luncheon. Much, much more will be happening during the week! Sisters and Brothers, your support is extremely vital to the success of the Hybrid 84th National Convention and together we will make it happen! Onward in BPW,
Sherelle T. Carper 24th National President & CEO

Tracie J. Isaac National Vocal Arts Chair NANBPWC, Inc.
National Vocal Arts Committee
Greetings NANBPWC, Inc. Sisters & Brothers: We are excited to present the “National Vocal Arts Competition for Emerging Artists” on July 19, 2023, during the 84th NANBPWC, Inc. National Convention. This year the competition will take place “in-person” and we hope that you will join us to support the six (6) contestants, one from each NANBPWC District. The Vocal Arts Competition was established in 1983 and at that time was titled the “Leontyne Price Vocal Arts Competition.” During our 2023 competition, we will celebrate 40-years of presenting our Signature Program established by visionaries who include Mary C. Murray, Leontyne Price, Mary E. Singletary and Frankie J. Gillette. Our past finalists have reported major accomplishments in their careers. This vocal arts competition has truly helped to support the young emerging artists in their journeys to becoming todays acclaimed artists. Additionally, we have developed relationships with industry professionals who share their professional expertise with our artists and the competition. For more information, please contact Chair Tracie J. Isaac by email:
