Fiona Starr’s paintings celebrate a very particular quiet response to the world around her. Typically, we see the dreamlike effect of dappled light falling upon a woodland glade. The silent figures that occupy her beautifully observed interiors have a structural poise that seems to chime and rhyme with their elegantly conceived environment. Fiona’s floral still lives have a meditational quality that transcends mere decorative appeal. Born in Leeds in 1960, Fiona studied at Jacob Kramer College in 1977 and gained a Fine Art degree at Stourbridge College of Art in 1980. She went on to train as a teacher in 1987 and was Head of Art and Design Technology at Moorlands Independent School in Leeds. She resigned from this post to take up painting full time.
