ctubre marca la llegada del otoño en los Estados Unidos, las zonas montañosas se pintan de tonos rojizos y el espectáculo que la naturaleza nos regala previo al invierno es único en estas regiones y a estas latitudes. Las principales ciudades como Nueva York, Chicago, Los Ángeles, Houston, Las Vegas, entre otras, cuentan con el mejor clima del año, el calor extremo se fue y el frío invernal está por llegar, es un excelente momento para caminar por las ciudades, para tener abiertas las ventanas y disfrutar en las terrazas de tardes soleadas y experiencias urbanas y de naturaleza de forma sencilla. También este mes trae una de las festividades más populares en la idiosincracia de los estadounidenses, el Halloween, una herencia cultural europea que se transformó al paso de los siglos y luce una de las festividades más coloridas en los Estados Unidos. En esta edición, tenemos una serie de recomendaciones con los mejores lugares para disfrutar esta fiesta de dulces y colores, también recomendaciones

para disfrutar al máximo del otoño con una ruta en bicicleta por Colorado, además de información útil para hacer de un viaje a los Estados Unidos, una experiencia más divertida e intrépida. October is when autumn starts in the United States. Mountain tops are decked in red and nature offers this region a spectacular and unique show before winter arrives. New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Houston and Las Vegas, among other cities, enjoy their best climate of the year. The weather is neither too hot nor too cold and it is an excellent time to walk the city streets, open the windows and enjoy sunny afternoons on the balcony, enjoying both urban and natural experiences. Halloween also takes place in October. A festivity that originally hails from Europe and that has changed over time, it is one of the most popular and colorful celebrations in the United States. In this edition, we will offer a series of recommendations with the best places to enjoy this candy- and color-filled celebration. Every year, close to half a million people come to enjoy the West Hollywood Carnival.   FORT WORTH More than 100 years old, the Cutting Edge Haunted House, an abandoned meat-processing plant, will frighten even the chillest of them all. It has been named the “World’s Largest Haunted Attraction” by Guinness World Records.   SAN FRANCISCO Halloween goes on a whole new level by blending with Mexico’s Day of the Dead tradition. A colorful party fills the city streets with huge skeleton figures and shrines, as well as a jovial atmosphere with a mix of the best of both traditions.

Con 25 años de experiencia, nadie más puede crear una fiesta tan aterradora y darle mayor realismo a los momentos más temibles de las películas de horror. Aquí se pueden experimentar varias zonas estremecedoras, donde las criaturas están al acecho en cada esquina; pero también se pueden disfrutar los divertidísimos espectáculos en vivo. EL TURISMO INMOBILIARIO EN LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS REPRESENTA UNA BUENA OPORTUNIDAD PARA LOS INVERSIONISTAS EXTRANJEROS QUE PUEDEN LLEVAR SU CAPITAL Y LOGRAR IMPORTANTES RETRIBUCIONES.

n US Traveler platicamos con Gustavo Gálvez, director general de PFS Realty, para que nos explicara un poco el panorama del mercado inmobiliario en Miami, lugar donde dicha empresa ofrece sus servicios. PFS Realty Grupo Inmobiliario es una compañía que cuenta con un equipo especializado en créditos hipotecarios. Opera como intermediario entre los diferentes bancos que ofrecen programas para extranjeros y, de esa forma, ayuda al inversionista a conseguir la mejor alternativa del mercado.

FINANCIAMIENTO PARA EXTRANJEROS PFS posee más de 12 años de experiencia en el mercado inmobiliario. Gustavo comenta que Miami es una ciudad privilegiada, pues dicho sector constituye una de las áreas de mayor ingreso de capital extranjero y la economía se ha fortalecido rápidamente. Es por eso que los bancos especializados en créditos hipotecarios tienen gran preferencia por clientes extranjeros, quienes buscan hacer una inversión y cooperar para el constante crecimiento de la economía. “Ya no somos un destino de playa y shopping solamente, también hay arte, entretenimiento, moda y restaurantes, lo que ha hecho que Miami sea una ciudad más cosmopolita y se sitúe en la mirada de los inversionistas extranjeros”, mencionó Gálvez. APOYOS GUBERNAMENTALES El gobierno de los Estados Unidos ofrece a los mexicanos la posibilidad de invertir en bienes inmuebles en su país con distintos programas: • EB-5 residencia americana Es un sistema en el que se puede invertir un mínimo de 500 mil dólares, los cuales tienen que generar 10 empleos, para que el inversionista extranjero obtenga a cambio la residencia de los Estados Unidos de América para él, su cónyuge e hijos. A través de diversos aliados estratégicos, se da asesoría financiera, al igual que desde el área de inmigración para poder cumplir con los requisitos del programa.

• E2 visa de inversionista Existe un tratado entre México y los Estados Unidos que permite a los mexicanos establecer un negocio, montar o comprar una franquicia. Gustavo recomienda adquirir una franquicia, ya que éstas traen consigo experiencia y reconocimiento. Si el inversionista continúa con un buen manejo, el negocio será exitoso. La inversión puede ser desde 150 mil dólares y debe generar dos o tres empleos. El gobierno estadounidense a cambio otorga la visa de inversionista, con lo que incentiva captar más capital al país.

TURISMO INMOBILIARIO Gran cantidad de hoteles trabajan a través de este programa. Marcas como Marriot o Hilton consiguen inversionistas y la tarea de PFS es asesorarlos en el proceso de desarrollo para conseguir la residencia americana. El sector hotelero es el que más crece en Miami, apoyado en parte por estas inversiones inmobiliarias. También los puertos son un importante imán para los

cruceros y, por tanto, para la llegada de turistas. “El turismo atrae inversionistas a Miami. Este destino los cautiva por su ubicación estratégica, por su infraestructura y por su cercanía a tres importantes aeropuertos. Es una ciudad con seguridad económica y financiera que muchos buscan –así como la protección patrimonial–, pues eso no lo encuentran en sus países.”, menciona Gustavo. PFS se concentra en el sur de la Florida y es ahí donde ha tenido mayor desarrollo: “Vemos que hay un potencial de crecimiento muy alto a largo plazo, por eso nos hemos concentrado en Miami”, indicó el directivo.

Las oficinas centrales de PFS se encuentran en Miami, pero tienen representaciones en diversos países de Sudamérica como Venezuela, México, Brasil, Argentina y Ecuador, pues su finalidad es ayudar a inversionistas de estas naciones a llevar su capital a los Estados Unidos.

US Traveler spoke with Gustavo Galvez, General Director of PFS Realty, to share his view about the outlook of real estate in Miami, where his company is located. PFS Realty Grupo Inmobiliario has a team of experts in real estate, credit and mortgages. It connects banks offering programs targeted at foreigners to customers, and in doing so helps investors find the best alternatives in the market. FINANCING FOR FOREIGNERS PFS has more than 12 years of experience in the real estate market. Gustavo considers Miami to be a privileged city, since it has one of the biggest foreign capital revenue streams in the country, and its local economy is quickly gaining strength. Therefore, home finance banks have an appetite for foreign customers, who want to invest their capital and help maintain the economy going. “We are no longer a mere beach and shopping destination; we have art, we have entertainment, fashion and dining. Miami is now more cosmopolitan and more attractive for foreign investors,” said Galvez. GOVERNMENT GRANTS The US government has programs for Mexican citizens who want to invest in real estate in the country: •• EB-5 American residency With a minimum investment of 500,000 USD and the creation of at least 10 jobs, foreign investors are granted residency in the United States, for them and their spouse and/or children. Several strategic partners offer financial and immigration advisory services to ensure compliance with the program. E2 INVESTOR VISA Mexico and the United States have a treaty to allow Mexican citizens to set up a business or create or acquire a franchise. Gustavo recommends acquiring a franchise, since they provide a lot of experience and business exposure. If the investor handles their investment well, they will own a successful business. Investment amounts must be at least 150,000 USD and create two or three jobs. In exchange, the government grants an investor visa, which attracts more foreign capital inflows.

REAL ESTATE TOURISM Many hotels operate under this scheme. Brands like Marriot or Hilton gather a group of investors, and PFS offers advisory during the process to obtain an American residency. Hotels are the fastest-growing industry in Miami, driven in part by such real estate investment. Its ports are also a significant tourist draw, which means more people visiting the city. “Tourism is attracting investors to Miami. They like the destination for its strategic location, its infrastructure, and its relative proximity to at least three international airports. The city has a strong economy and a strong financial system, and many come here because they want to invest in a safe environment, which might not be the case in their countries of origin,” Gustavo said. PFS focuses on southern Florida, which where it has grown the most. “There is an attractive long-term growth opportunity, and this is why we have focused on Miami,” the executive added.

PFS is headquartered in Miami, but has offices in many Latin American countries, such as Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador, since their mission is to connect investors from these places with capital opportunities in the United States.

Dentro de los temas que siempre revisamos está el de la hotelería dentro y fuera de cada una de las zonas de los parques. ¿Son muy caros? ¿Valen la pena aun cuando voy a pasar más tiempo en los parques? ¿Realmente ofrecen beneficios interesantes? El tema que generalmente analizamos primero es el costo. Vivimos en una época donde cualquier ahorro es bienvenido y los hoteles fuera de las áreas de parques ofrecen tarifas muy competitivas. Sin embargo, la diferencia en precio nos va a permitir tener una mejor experiencia en estos lugares. En Walt Disney World Resort, por ejemplo, vamos a tener las Horas Mágicas Extra, que nos permiten disfrutar desde una hasta tres horas adicionales para jugar en los parques diario. En el caso de Universal Orlando Resort, existe la Admisión Temprana, la cual permite el acceso una hora antes al parque. Si nos vamos al tema de la transportación, los hoteles fuera de estas áreas de parques tienen horarios establecidos para ir y regresar. En el caso de los hoteles Disney y Universal, hay un sistema de transportación de hoteles a parques cada 20 minutos. Esto continúa hasta una hora después del cierre de cada parque. Adicionalmente, Disney ofrece traslado del aeropuerto al hotel sin costo adicional. Y, finalmente, ya en los parques temáticos, tenemos la oportunidad de aprovechar mejor nuestro día con el sistema FastPass de Disney o el sistema Universal Express en Universal Orlando Resort. Con estos pases podrás saltar las filas de la mayoría de los juegos todo el día. Nada mal, ¿no? Tomando esto en cuenta, ¿aún crees que los hoteles dentro de la zona de parques no valen la pena? A few days ago, we had the chance to take a group of travel agents on a trip so they could discover Orlando. The best way to know any destination is seeing it for yourself. One point we always talk about is the availability of hotels inside and close to the parks. Are they expensive? Should I spend more even if I plan to spend most of my time at the parks? Do they offer any benefits that might actually interest me? We usually talk about cost first and foremost. Nowadays, any savings are welcome, and hotels outside of the parks tend to offer very competitive rates. However, a higher cost could mean a better experience at the parks. For example, when staying at Walt Disney World Resort, you get Extra Magic Hours, which allows you to enjoy the parks for 1 to 3 extra hours every day. At Universal Orlando Resort, you get Early Admission, with which you can enter the park one hour before it opens. When it comes to transportation, hotels outside the parks usually have scheduled trips to and from the theme parks. Disney and Universal hotels have a hotel-park-hotel bus transportation system which runs every 20 minutes. These buses continue running up to one hour after each park has closed for the day. Disney hotels also offer airport-hotelairport transportation at no additional cost. Finally, while at the parks, we can use Disney’s FastPass or Universal Express at Universal Orlando Resort. With this, you’ll be able to skip the lines at most of the rides. Doesn’t sound bad, does it? Knowing this, would you reconsider if the hotels inside the park areas are worth the extra cost?

undado por el señor Robert L. Waltrip, en el mes de octubre de 1992, el museo muestra (aunque usted no lo crea) un legado envidiable de la industria funeraria en los Estados Unidos. Desde auténticos artículos de servicios funerarios realmente históricos, ataúdes, coches fúnebres de varias épocas, hasta funerales de presidentes, papas, famosos y más.

CARROZAS FÚNEBRES En la primera parte del museo se pueden observar vehículos de varias épocas. Hay algunos en verdad espectaculares, como el RockFalls de 1921, construido en Sterling, Illinois. HEARSES The first part of the museum has vehicles from many different times. Some are truly spectacular, like the 1921 RockFalls, built in Sterling, Illinois. This hearse is a clear example of the prevailing design language of the 20’s. Explore 14 fascinating exhibits about ancient funeral cultures of the world, from Ancient Egypt to modern day. IMPRESSIVE CASKETS The museum also has twelve coffins which show how their occupants lived. There are engravings of a KLM airplane, a Mercedes Benz, a fish, a leopard, a crab and lobster, and many other images. These colorful and elaborate caskets were created by sculptor Kane Quaye and members of his workshop in Accra, Ghana. Each one is designed to capture the essence of its dead inhabitant, be it their personality, profession or a particular symbol. FUNERARY ARTIFACTS The museum has rare artifacts and has a valuable trove of information about one of the most significant rituals in the history of mankind. There is a vacuum-sealed glass casket, a German Glaswagen from 1860, John F. Kennedy’s eternal flame, and a Sayers and Scovill hearse from 1926, as well as many other paraphernalia.

EN EL CORAZÓN DE COLORADO, UN VIEJO PUEBLO MINERO SE CONVIRTIÓ EN UN RINCÓN PRIVILEGIADO ENTRE MONTAÑAS QUE, DURANTE EL VERANO Y OTOÑO, ES POSIBLE RECORRER EN BICICLETA.

A

poco más de 2 mil 900 metros sobre el nivel del mar y en medio de las Montañas Rocallosas, nació hace poco más de 150 años Breckenridge, cuando gente del este vino con la fiebre del oro a buscar minerales en las montañas. Este pueblo no fue la excepción y hay un par de minas en desuso que se convirtieron en lugares turísticos. Son muestra del origen de las villas modernas de la región.

Para llegar hasta Breckenridge hay diversas compañías de transporte que operan desde el aeropuerto internacional de Denver. El recorrido es de dos horas aproximademente y los paisajes son espectaculares. La mejor recomendación es recorrer en bicicleta Breckenridge y sus alrededores. El pueblo no mide más de un kilómetro de largo y tiene en sus calles principales excelentes restaurantes como Modis, Motherloeaded Tavern o BlueRiver Bistro, que forman parte de los negocios locales operados por emprendedores de la región, lo cual da un sabor único a la cocina local.

Para los amantes de ciclismo de montaña, profesional y amateur, este es el lugar indicado para dejarse llevar por la naturaleza desde una bicicleta.

¿CÓMO LLEGAR?

Las carreteras entre las bases para esquiar en el invierno son ideales para la bicicleta, de hecho, algunas de estas pistas así se usan en el verano y otoño. Se puede comprar el pase para el lift, luego subir con la bicicleta y hacer un descenso espectacular entre caminos de pasto, que durante el invierno funcionan para esquiar. En los bosques aledaños a Breckenridge, hay decenas de senderos perfectamente señalizados, con subidas y bajadas entre enormes pinos y colinas, donde es posible de pronto encontrase con un venado o un alce. A Bike Ride Through Breckenridge At the heart of Colorado, an old mining town has become one of the most privileged spots among the mountains. Visitors can now bike recreationally in the summer and fall. Located a little over 2 thousand 900 meters above sea level and right in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, Breckenridge was founded over 150 years ago during the gold rush. The town was no exception to the gold rush and a couple of old mines have been converted to tourist spots that showcase the origins of the region's contemporary towns. Several transportation companies offer trip to Breckenridge departing from the Denver International Airport. Travel time is approximately two hours and visitor can enjoy breathtaking scenery during the trip. The best option is to travel Breckenridge and the surrounding areas by bicycle. The town is no more than 1 km long and its main streets host excellent restaurants such as Modis, The Motherloaded Tavern and The Blue River Bistro. These restaurants are locally-owned businesses and Breckenridge's cuisine a unique taste. There are ski slopes open during the winter that are ideal for bike rides during summer and fall. Visitors can purchase a lift pass and ride their bikes down the green pastures that are covered in snow in the winter. The woods that surround Breckenridge boast dozens of well-marked trails, with inclines and slopes among pine trees and hills. Visitors may even encounter deer or moose along the way. These trails are shared by cyclists, hikers or people who are looking to relax and stroll leisurely through the forest. The mines are a few kilometers from town and they can also be reached by bike. The Breckenridge Distillery, dedicated to making whiskey, bourbon, vodka, gin and rum, is in the area as well. The distillery has become one of the most popular state-wide tourist attractions due to the high quality of its spirits. Where can visitors rent bikes? Certain hotels offer to loan visitors the bikes, and there are also five companies that rent them per hour, day or week. There are also motorized bicycles available for people with health conditions, allowing them to easily ride up and down the mountains. Breckenridge is also the right place for professional and amateur mountain bikers who wish to ride through nature.

Although charter flights have been operating in both American and Cuban cities for a long time, visitors were forced to deal with a series of legal requirements and high costs to be able to fly to and from both countries. However, with recent modifications to transportation policies in Washington and Havana, and due to recent diplomatic relations between both companies, it is now possible to fly to the United States and then to Cuba before returning to Mexico, and vice versa. Jet Blue was the first airline to participate in this new era, offering flights to Santa Clara, Camaguey and Holguin departing from Fort Lauderdale and offering connecting flights to over a dozen destinations in the United Sates. The second airline to offer commercial flights was American Airlines, flying to Camaguey, Cienfuegos, Havana, Holguin, Santa Clara and Varadero departing from the Miami international airport. Southwest Airlines will soon be offering flights to Habana, Santa Clara y Varadero from the Fort Lauderdale and Tampa airports. By the end of the year and early 2017, there will be flights available connecting the main Cuban airports with Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston (Bush and Hobby), Los Angeles, Newark, New York (JFK) and Orlando; operated by Alaska, Delta, Frontier, Spirit and United Airlines, aside from Jet Blue, American Airlines, and soon, Southwest.
