UPCOMING PARISH RETREAT THANK YOU FROM CATHOLIC CHARITIES

CONSOLING THE HEART OF JESUS

Thank you so much for the coordination of the Christmas Angel Tree Program! The generosity of St. Mary's Church parishioners is admirable! With you help, a total of 181 families (308 children) were able to celebrate Christmas! Some families celebrated Christmas with gifts for the first time in their lives.

Begin February 16th, join us for a 10 week small-group retreat that delves into the simplicity and grandeur of Consoling spirituality. Three sessions will be offered: Tuesdays at 10 AM or 7 PM, or Wednesdays at 6:30 PM. The sessions will be available in English and Spanish. This retreat is based on the popular book by Fr. Michael Gaitley, MIC, Consoling the Heart of Jesus.

WINTER WEATHER MASS SCHEDULE We want to remind parishioners that if St. Mary’s School is delayed or closed due to inclement weather, the 7 AM daily Mass will be cancelled. The 8:30 AM Mass will always be celebrated regardless of the weather. Masses during the weekend are never cancelled.

Father Gaitley brings together several spiritual traditions and blends them in the pattern of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius. Gain new insights into how you can console Jesus; learn the keys to the great sanctity of the saints and blesseds like Therese of Lisieux, Faustina Kowalska, Louis de Montfort, and Mother Teresa; and have all the tools you’ll need to “become a saint, a great saint, and quickly.” This is also a good way for a soul to begin the journey in responding to the call to embrace the Divine Mercy of the Lord. What better way to prepare during Lent for Easter and the Year of Mercy! Cost for the participant package including the book is $25 ($20 without book). Financial assistance is available. For more information or to sign up, please contact Lillian Isaac at 423-467-3330 or [email protected].

(Misericordiae Vult s 22)

Hence, to live the indulgence of the Holy Year means to approach the Father’s mercy with the cer aint that his forgiveness ex ends to the entire life of the believer. To gain an indulgence is to ex erience the holiness of the Church, who bestows upon all the its of Christ’s redemption, so that God’s love and forgiveness may ex end ever here. Let us live this Jubilee intensely, begging the Father to forgive our sins and to bathe us in his mercif l “indulgence.” (Misericordiae Vult s 22)

MINISTRY HIGHLIGHT: DOOR OF MERCY

MINISTERIO DESTACADO: PUERTA DE LA MISERICORDIA

An indulgence is a remission before God of the temporal punishment due to sins whose guilt has already been forgiven, which the faithful Christian who is duly disposed gains under certain prescribed conditions through the action of the Church. (CCC 1471) Pope Francis has granted a Jubilee Indulgence for people who are making a personal pilgrimage for Mercy. The suggested pilgrimage is that the person makes a pious visit to a Jubilee place and spend time in prayer, performs a work of mercy or charity, or performs an act of penance for a day. It is also important to pay attention to the workings of the heart on this pilgrimage. This state of grace that a person is working towards involves Confession, receiving the Holy Eucharist, and praying for the Pope intentions. Pope Francis’s Prayer for the Jubilee is available on the ambo near our parish Door of Mercy, but an Our Father or a Hail Mary could also be used when praying for Pope Francis’s intentions.
