50th Anniversary
2 WEEKS LEFT TO OUR JUBILEE
“No Excuses”
“No Hay Excusas”
Our fiftieth anniversary celebration will conclude with a special concert and Mass, in which everyone in the parish can participate... and should really try to. We will have no Masses at St. Louis on Sunday, November 24, but rather only one parish Mass on Saturday evening, November 23, at 5:30 PM with Archbishop Wenski at the Bank United Center. Beginning the celebration with a concert at 4:30 PM where Deacon Paul Lambert will join in. We need everyone to come.... No excuses.
1. It’s not that we do this that often. The last time we had only one weekend Mass was twenty-five years ago at the Silver Anniversary of the parish. 2. Bank United Center at the University is less than 15 minutes away–straight up 57th Avenue then right just after US1. This venue is much closer than the Knight Center in downtown Miami where we celebrated the 25th anniversary. 3. Gates open at 3:30 PM. Parking is simple and free. We paid for all the parking and for the police to direct traffic. 4. Even easier– you can take Metrorail from the Dadeland Station to the University Station right in front of the Center. 5. Handicapped? No problem. The Center has handicapped access and we will have special handicapped seating. 6. Meet up with old friends. We are expecting former priests, musicians and parishioners. Many who have shared our past want to join us for the celebration. 7. Make an evening of it. After the Concert and Mass, you still have time to go out to dinner with family and friends as we anticipate being done by 7 PM. Remember, you don’t have to get up for Mass on Sunday! 8. Don’t miss the opportunity to share in the event. Fellow parishioners have been working for months to prepare for the concert and Mass. A little planning will leave you with great memories and a great experience of God’s grace.

Midnight Musings / Pensamientos de Media Noche The One We Could Never Elect
El Unico que Nunca irá a Elecciones
When I voted on Tuesday, November 5, at 4 PM, I was the only person casting a ballot at the Methodist Church which in fact was hosting two different precincts. Not much interest for our South Dade area if the only issue is the hospital bond question. But nationally many people had great interest in the races in New York, New Jersey and Virginia. How much would those candidates and their issues foretell developments in the 2014 midterm elections and then in the 2016 presidential elections? How would the government shutdown and Affordable Care/Obamacare affect voters attitudes? What do people think about the president and congress, Democrats, Republicans or the Tea Party? Americans make choices. We elect our leaders… most leaders but not the most important one of all, the Lord of the universe. Our anniversary celebration will take place on the Feast of Christ the King. We had a wonderful weekend for the Feast of our patron Saint Louis, but the climax of the anniversary year will fall on the celebration of Jesus’ Lordship of all things. That in itself becomes a great reminder about the one who has been and remains the center of St. Louis Parish. Presidents and popes, mayors and pastors, all come and go, but “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). We have no choice about Jesus being our Lord, but we remain confident in him because God himself raised Jesus to his Right Hand. Humans may or may not make good choices at election time, but God makes no mistake. He has given us the perfect Lord we need, one who has experienced human existence, life and death, and his only interest is to lead us all to share eternal life in the kingdom. We may or may not work of human politicians and candidates, but all of us Christians must work for the cause of our Lord. I might not have discovered much interest at the polls with the elections last Tuesday, but all of us Christians need to remain interested and committed in living our own Christian lives as disciples and sharing with others the good news of Christ. I look forward to seeing everyone at the anniversary celebration on November 23 at the Bank United Center. While over three thousand people come to St. Louis parish over the weekend to worship at different Masses, this will be a wonderful occasion for all of us to gather together, present parishioners, past parishioners and friends, to celebrate the past and to look forward to our future in Christ.
Yours in Christ,
Suyos en Cristo,
