self-funded Small Business Owners in 65+ countries set and hit their financial goals through its proprietary

small business growth program, the Silver Lining Action

Plan - SLAP™. Small Business Owners who use SLAP™ have an 80% chance of hitting their financial goals.

Additionally, with the recent launch of Silver Lining Finance, Small Business Owners can access unsecured

term loans based 100% on their SLAP™ behavioral data;

not their credit scores, cash flow, or other traditional underwriting models.

Our mission at Silver Lining is to use the assets, influences, and resources we have to create a more just

world. As a part of this mission, we have created the Impact 5X Economic Justice Project.

CARISSA REINIGER CEO and Founder Silver Lining

It is my strong belief that Small Business Owners from marginalized communities are as capable of success as anyone else. The gap in their success rates is not because of their abilities. The systems that we all operate in prevent them from getting access to the type of structure, support, and network they need. We can change those systems, and when we do that, they will succeed. We are so grateful to JPMorgan Chase and GoDaddy for sharing this belief and for contributing to help us do this important work.

TALENT IS EQUAL,

ACCESS IS NOT Traditional methods of technical assistance and access to capital have not created real change for small businesses. They simply do not get the right support and structure that will help them succeed. But, the bigger issue we are addressing is that a staggering number of marginalized SMBs lack access to the right technical assistance and a fair way to access capital. If we remove the barriers to access for the underserved, they are given the opportunity to actualize their full potential, and the world can benefit from their experiences and diversity. The problem of widespread, global access inequality is sadly nothing new, and there are countless people who are doing what they can to find a solution. There are tech companies and startups who create disruptive solutions but are beholden to revenue goals, civil servants who are putting all their energy into doing the work to help small businesses but lack the ability to scale, and researchers who create reports to influence the general public into action. The problem is that these solutions alone have not been enough. A global, systematic issue requires a completely different and almost impossible, and incredibly audacious approach.

This is a longstanding problem that requires ongoing and relentless action, experimentation, and innovation. Instead of focusing on skills building, mentorship, and credit scores, we are looking at the full human, their complete business strategy, and applying a comprehensive approach that helps them build profitable and sustainable businesses. We believe that when it comes to talent and behavior, we are all equal. And it is our mission to level the playing field by removing all barriers to access. As a part of this mission, we have created the Impact5X Economic Justice Project. We have been working on this mission for over 17 years. 14,000+ SMBs from 65+ countries have reached their financial goals through the SLAP™ Program. Our data proves that when a small business owner from any background gets the right structure and support they can succeed and hit their goals.

PROGRAM HYPOTHESIS

ACCESS SHOULD BE BASED ON BEHAVIOR Our belief is that to make access truly equal, we need to remove all bias, account for individual realities, and do this at scale. The whole basis of our programs and innovations is our belief that one thing we all have equal control over is our behavior. Measuring Behavior The SLAP™ SaaS program is completely based on behavior change science and what we have seen is that the most successful SMBs who reach their financial goals are the ones with high SLAPscores– a number based on our algorithm that measures how engaged they are, how committed they are to achieving their sales goals, how much they access skills building tools, and so on. Behavior-Based Access Our goal is to create the conditions so that any SMB around the world can sign up for SLAP™ so they get equal access based on their behavior. To support a global and diverse group of SMBs, the Impact5X program was built with three guiding principles in mind: Create Equal Opportunity for Under-served Small Business Owners SMBs from diverse locations, economies, races, religions, gender associations, ages, and physical abilities will have the same access. Improve the Cultural Competency of Small Business Support With data and insight from SMBs, we identify opportunities to improve small business support products and services' cultural competency. Use Storytelling to Shift Perspectives We are using the stories of the participating small business owners to create multimedia installations and projects and reframe the story of entrepreneurship.

PROGRAM

ELEMENTS Based on the real needs of Small Business Owners from marginalized communities across the globe, we have designed programs that leverage the experience and tech-enabled, data-driven behavior change products we already have while also focusing on innovation and ongoing development of tools, resources, and campaigns that will help small businesses succeed.

01

Access to Technical Assistance We will bring the Silver Lining Action Plan (SLAP™) to 500 Small Business

Owners from marginalized communities around the globe. In addition to SLAP™, we have added various program enhancements and access to additional resources with the goal of understanding which of these things have the biggest impact on all SMBs vs specific cohorts.

Cohort-Specific TA - the cohort leaders provide additional Technical Assistance to their members. This can be in the form of additional meetings, WhatsApp group chats, community-specific support, and so on.

Access to Digital Enablement - one of the biggest challenges SMBs face is the growing digital divide. In partnership with Empower by

GoDaddy, we are providing additional resources, tools, and support for marginalized SMBs to create an online presence.

Access to High-Level Connections - meaningful connections are

crucial to the success of a business. We ensure that the global SMBs in this cohort gain access to connections and introductions that will help them grow their business.

Access to a Global Community - as part of the Impact5X program, the SMBs become part of our global community made of Small

Business Owners, Partners, and Advocates who share resources and spaces to exchange knowledge and support.

02

Access to Capital Members of the cohort have optional access to SLAPloans where

qualification is based 100% on their behavior in the SLAP™ Program. SLAPloans require no credit check and no personal guarantees.

03

Innovation Projects We are running a series of Think Tanks which look at real SLAP™ data, the real experiences of the 500 participating Small Business Owners and the

cohort leader's feedback and perspective. Out of these Think Tanks we will identify short and long term Innovation Projects that we believe will have

the most meaningful impact on ensuring SLAP™ and SLAPloans meet the needs of SMBs from marginalized communities.

04

Storytelling

We believe that art and storytelling are powerful tools to spark discussion, change perceptions on social norms and bring about change. This is why we created the Silver Lining Artist Program and have commissioned

12 global artists who will create unique pieces that reflect the stories of diverse Small Business Owners from around the world.

THE SILVER LINING ACTION PLAN (SLAP™)

METHODOLOGY

The SIlver Lining Action Plan (SLAP™) Methodology was originally built based on interviews with real Small Business Owners. From these interviews, we built a comprehensive methodology that takes the complexity of growing a small business and simplifies it into a clear, concise 13-month Action Plan. SLAP™ takes business owners through a 3-hour process to set their goals and build their 1-year Action Plan. For the next 12 months, they are given highly customized, proactive, and comprehensive support to ensure they don’t just set those goals, but they actually hit them. Leveraging technology, data, and process design, SLAP™ is scalable, affordable and over 80% of small businesses who use it hit their goals.

SLAPmindset State your values and priorities and take responsibility for being the best version of yourself so that you can build a strong business and make the biggest impact.

SLAPstatement Get clear on what you do, whom you do it for, and on what scale you want to grow.

Ideal Client Create a full profile of your best clients to set a laser-like focus for all growth activities.

1-Year-Financial Goal Evaluate expenses, income streams, profit margins and overall business model to set a clear 1-YEAR SALES GOAL. Set your IMPACT GOAL and contribute to a more just world as you grow your business.

Action Plan Identify quarterly Connecting Strategies and customize Connecting Campaigns to outline the exact ACTION ITEMS you will take to connect with your Ideal Client in order to hit your 1-Year Financial Goal.

Execute Live in a strong SLAPmindset and implement the 3 SLAPhabits, Take Action, Close Sales and Pause & Reflect. Say yes to the right things and no to everything that does not fit in your Time & Money Budget. Leverage the full support of SLAP to optimize your actions and hit your goals!

COHORT SPECIFIC SUPPORT

In addition to the core program elements these 4 Impact5X Cohort Leaders implemented simple but effective customized strategies to ensure their cohorts maximized their chance of success. As we do ongoing program evaluation we will continue to monitor if these, or other cohort customizations, have a lasting impact on Small Business Owner success and, if so, incorporate these elements further into the Impact5X strategy and the overall SLAP™ Program.

CREATING ACCESS

In addition to SLAP™ and the cohort customizations, every Small Business Owner in Impact5X is getting access to digital tools, custom connections and a global community. The goal is to bridge divides and create access to the skills and networks that so many SMBs from marginalized communities do not have access to.

Access to Digital Enablement Every Small Business Owner in Impact5X is

receiving the Empower by GoDaddy training program along with unlimited support from GoDaddy experts and promo codes to

access GoDaddy tools for free or at heavily discounted rates.

Access to High-Level Connections Every Small Business Owner in Impact5X has the

deep support of the Impact Strategist community. Each Impact Strategist is a successful business

leader who has committed a small financial

contribution towards the Impact5X budget as well as a commitment to make strategic introductions

for the SMBs to help them hit their 1 Year Financial Goals.

Access to a Global Community

Every Small Business Owner in Impact5X is a full-fledged member of Silver Lining's Global

Community of fellow SLAPsters, Strategists and

Partners. They get unlimited access to training

events, special offers, opportunities and chances to get profiled through Silver Lining's public engagement work.

BASED ON BEHAVIOR

Traditional small business financing has it all wrong. The story is that those small businesses are too high risk, so whether a larger company asks for a big loan or a smaller one asks for a smaller one, banks use the same process. SLAPloans was launched in 2021 with the goal of challenging the current underwriting model and finding a new way to assess if a business owner is creditworthy. Instead of charging high-interest rates to reduce, we reduce risk by offering robust technical assistance and basing approvals on behavior measured on our SaaS program.

DAYS IN BUILD When a Small Business Owner signs up for SLAP™, they go through a 3-4 hour guided process where they build their action plan. On average, it takes a small business owner between 1 and 60 days to complete their SLAP™ Build. Our data shows that the sooner they finish those 3-4 hours of guided work, their chance of hitting their 1 Year Sales Goal gets significantly higher. Impact 5X Program

VS Days in Build

Why Days In Build Matters

The number of Days in Build is a leading indicator of whether a Small Business Owner is committed to the program and is able and willing to get things done in a focused manner. There is a significant correlation between a low number of Days in Build and a high success rate in hitting their 1 Year Goal. It is Silver Lining's goal that every Small Business Owner completes their Build within 30 days. It is an absolute ideal state if small business owners complete their Build in less than 10 days.

We have seen that even with all these challenges, our Impact5X SLAPsters achieved completing their BUILD in less than 30 days and continue to have an amazing SLAPexperience. Our team did their best to support them in different ways and they were committed enough to finish in record time.

VS Action Plan Completion

Why Action Plan Completion Matters The percentage of action plan completed is an indicator of the commitment of the small

business to hitting their quarterly and annual goal via implemting the right actions.

Our SLAPexperts and SLAPstrategists use the

regular calls to ensure that every Small Business Owner incorporate only the connecting

campaigns that aligns with the time and money budget available.

Our experience shows that the more realistic the

business owner is to what happens in thier world

and the world of their ideal clients, the easier it is

to develop, complete more actions in their SLAP™ and close sales.

Most of our SMBs start out with lots of energy and are excited to take on their connecting campaigns. The SMBs are challenged to embrace the behaviour change necessary to be consistent in their drive to complete the actions that achieve their financial outcomes.

Behavior Change Science is all about wrapping comprehensive support around an individual in order to optimize their actions to align them with the outcomes that they want. Skills building, in and of itself, does not drive action and results. VS Pause & Reflect

Why Pause & Reflect Matters If an individual is constantly in action and

jumping from one thing to another, they will find it hard to succeed. Our belief is that a business's success depends on the owner's health and

well-being. If they are stressed, frazzled, tired, or burnt out, their work will be sacrificed and they tend to get stuck.

Pause and Reflect is one of our key SLAPhabits

that is a leading indicator for success. The Ideal cadence is SMBs pauses and reflects 15

minutes/week, 1 hour/month, and 2 hours/quarter to evaluate if the actions they are taking are

leading to the goals they have set. Individuals

who stay consistent with their Pause and Reflect practice have a higher probability of reaching their goals.

Our Impact5X SLAPSsters submit an average of one monthly P&R. It is an evolving process for the Impact5X members who are still developing the habits to do these scheduled reflections weekly instead of monthly.

Updates & Learnings This innovation project was sparked during a live event when a SLAPster with a hearing impairment asked if there was any way to have closed captioning at future events. That

triggered a number of other SLAPsters asking for the same thing. It was a

beautiful moment of our community telling us what they need to make SLAP™ work for them.

While Closed Captioning is not a

difficult thing to activate in Zoom, the primary tool we use, we have

discovered that video transcription process timing is longer than

anticipated and the costs are higher

than planned. In order to sustain this being available to all SLAPsters for all interactions we need to continue to find the best long term sustainable strategy.

Input from the lived experiences of SLAPexperts:

Adding closed captions to 200+ videos in SLAPcenter was quite

expensive and took a significant

amount of time. This is something that we want to encourage all

businesses to do but recognize

that the time and cost it takes is prohibitive to many.

In the short term, we have key priorities for each of the Impact5x Program Elements. Our team will use our values of Justice, Global, Integrated, Audacious and Others Oriented to deliver on these goals over the coming months.

SLAP™ and leverage all of the extra access and support that has been designed to help them hit their goals.

We are seeing a higher false start rate for SMBs from

marginalized communities in Impact5X than the standard rate in our general population. Based on that, give the Impact5X

SMBs extra structure and support and also enroll to 75 additional SMBs to the program to account for expected attrition.

Collaborate with GoDaddy to optimize the existing Empower by GoDaddy Connecting Campaigns in SLAPcenter and run a Website Building Bootcamp for Impact5X SLAPsters.

02

SLAP™ Loans: Access to Capital Support Impact5X SMBs with the goal of having their

approval rates at least equal the approval and repayment rates of the SLAP™ general population.

ongoing iterations to ensure it supports the needs of the SMBs. Work with Empower by GoDaddy Team to take the

learnings from Phase 2 and design the Empower by GoDaddy integration for Phase 3.
