Crail Folk Club On Thursday 13th April at Crail Community Hall 8pm we have Anthony Toner. Anthony is a singer songwriter based in Belfast. He caused something of a stir in Crail when supporting Barbara Dickson and Rab Noakes at the folk club last September, so due to public demand he returns. Famed for his engaging between-songs patter and his accomplished guitar playing, he is one of Northern Ireland’s most popular live acts, chalking up dozens of live shows a year as a solo acoustic artist, ‘In the Round’ with friends, and also on electric guitar, playing slide blues in the Ronnie Greer Blues Band. In each setting, his command of the instrument and his voice are pressed into service to deliver some of the finest lyrics you’ll hear in
Community Representatives Forum - an occasional series Willie Rennie MSP, Lib-Dem Willie Rennie The modern world is now wired with an assumption of access to the internet whether that be banks to emergency services to online shopping. With the closure of local banks, police stations, post offices and shops it’s no longer a luxury but an essential part of life. Yet too many people in the East Neuk of Fife are deprived of access to superfast broadband nor a decent mobile phone reception. Which makes the failure to deliver the r100 superfast broadband programme by 2021 such a grave failure. The voucher scheme has been ever changing and ever more confusing as it relies on local people to determine whether they should organise their communities to apply for vouchers or wait for the commercial build to reach them. This usually result in paralysis with years of inaction and years of life in the dark without superfast broadband. I have raised this matter repeatedly with ministers in the parliament, but I’m not convinced they fully understand nor accept the scale of the problem. It is my hope that the new UK Government programme called Project Gigabit may be the answer. It works on a comprehensive and strategic approach with a pot of money to automatically connect areas rather than being dependent on customers’ action. We also need a plan to ensure mobile networks reach the hard-to-get areas especially along the coastal villages near the shore. I have spoken numerous times to the mobile networks but so far there is little sign they will be plugging the holes.
