PRINCIPAL’S MOTTO FOR 2021:
TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER!
Saying goodbye to our Grade 7 class of 2021, leaves me with some sadness, but also with fond memories. This group, especially the Grade 7A class, was the last class I taught in my career as a teacher. If I look back over the last year, I realise that by standing together we were able to make a difference and therefore bring change through the amazing way in which we adapted to very difficult circumstances. A chapter will be closing for our Grade 7 learners at the end of this year, but an exciting one is lying ahead, when you start your high school career in 2022. May your road ahead be based on the values we have taught you at Koos Sadie Primary School. Surely one of the most important values we applied the last two years, was perseverance. Giving up was never an option. We have seen you grow and become well-balanced teenagers, which makes us very proud. We believe in you and wish you all the best for the future. “I hope your dreams take you….to the corners of your smiles, to the highest of your hopes, to the windows of your opportunities and to the most special places your heart has ever known! “ To our editorial staff for publishing this year’s KS news, well done. Thank you for all the effort and hours spent to promote our school. We would also like to thank all our parents for the amazing input in the lives of our learners. Without your support, input, dedication and the values you install at home, the success of your child would not be possible. GREAT EXPECTATIONS
Waar ‘n welverdiende rustyd nou voorlê, wens ons almal ‘n aangename vakansie toe. Mag almal saam met hul geliefdes ‘n wonderlike feesgety ervaar. May God bless you. Best wishes.
E ROSSOUW PRINCIPAL

Mantle Cell
Awareness Mantle cell lymphoma is a rare type of non-Hodgkin cancer of white blood cells, which help your body fight infections. Lymphoma is a type of blood cancer that develops when white blood cells, called lymphocytes, grow out of control. Lymphocytes are part of your immune system.
I can only praise our Almighty God and all the wonderful people in my life that constantly prayed for me. I attribute my healing to faith, prayers and a positive outlook on overcoming this cancer. The prayers of family, friends, colleagues, the school and community helped me through this time. I wish to thank each and every one for your continuous support. I cherish you in my heart.
Message from Mrs Thiart.
Diagnosed in November of 2020, I’ve started my chemo treatment under the very capable doctors of the Haemalife Cancer unit at Kuilsriver Netcare hospital. In May of this year I had a bone marrow transplant and thereafter more treatment. For the next two years I will receive treatment to build up my immune system.

The “Spring Bling fundraiser” took place in September to represent the start of spring. We were all excited to know the winners of the draw, we all wanted to win but unfortunately only 3 children could win. There were 3 awesome prizes! I would like to thank the staff and parents that supported the school and made this all happen. I think you are the real winners! The school raised a total of R18875. Congratulations to all the winners! First Prize

I guess every learner was excited about the event, because we get to have great fun. We got split into groups and the group that had the most laps, wins. Some learners even fell off their box cars giving us a lot to laugh about.
I want to express my gratitude to our principal, teachers and learners who made the soap box races a success. Alicia Williams Gr.7 E2
Emma Coetzee – Gr.5A
What a day! The learners of Koos Sadie had their annual fun on the field day. The fun on the field day was held on the 28th and 29th of September. There were a lot of fun activities such as hoola
hoops, hockey, bean bag throw and balance ball. There was good music in the background and the learners had a lot of fun.
Heritage day was amazing. It was also a day when the kids of Koos Sadie Primary could show their culture and heritage. The foundation phase wore cute traditional attire and had dots on their faces. The teachers stayed after school, because they were going to have a braai. They enjoyed it a lot. The holiday is very good, because it’s a day where you don’t have to be afraid to celebrate and show your culture and what your culture is all about. - Tawananyasha Dube - Gr. 7E2

Shae Constant and her partner Joshua Diener are the proud Winners of the WC Regional Open Dance Championship. They are currently preparing for the South African National Championship dance title on 11th December 2021, to be held at Grandwest. According to Shae’s mom, they will have a short break, then return in 2022, full steam ahead in preparation for an International Dance Sport Competition, in Thailand . We congratulate them and wish them all best of luck for their future endeavours.
The morning was dark and misty. As we left on the
bus on our way to Riebeeck Strand, the excitement started to build up. It has been a long time since sports opened due to COVID-19. Our first game was against Panorama, with our captain, Ilario Solomons leading us on the field. It was neck-and-neck, but luckily our number 8, Veron Solomons, scored the winning try with the game ending 5-0.We started feeling unstoppable. That energy lead us to win Riebeeck Strand 41-5 on their home ground. Veron scored the tries with Prince Kambi and Mateo Brian converting them. We felt very honoured to play and win in our new Sareltech sponsored kits. This wouldn’t be made possible if it wasn’t for our coaches, Mr Kuys and Mr van Hansen. Lucian Heuvel Gr.7E1
COVID-19 COVID-19 was one of the worst things that happened to the world. At school, we could not learn as much and some of us lost loved ones. I asked a couple of grade 4-5 learners some questions, and here are their answers. Shekinah Kabablu (Gr. 5E2) said: “I learnt less
school work, I couldn’t see some of my friends and I could not walk around or play”. Grace Dongmo (Gr. 4E1) and Jezel Williams in Gr. 5E1 said: “I would love to come back to
school as normal”. A lot of learners lost loved ones, like Aaliah Basardien (Gr. 5E2) who lost her grandfather to COVID-19. We have all been affected by COVID in different ways, but we all try to manage it.
The good news is that our teachers have been vaccinated during the July holidays. Always remember to stay safe, sanitise and wear your mask. We will get through this together. Cindiwe Dongmo- Gr.7E3

Head Leaders 2021 Head Leader – Lucian Heuvel –Gr.7E1 It was March 2021, 3 prefects and I were called to the principal’s office. I was as nervous, because it was my first time being summoned to the principal’s office. I was pleasantly surprised when she announced me as the head leader of Koos Sadie Primary School. It was truly one of the best moments of my life. I felt proud, continuing my family’s legacy since my mother, her sister and my cousins were all previous leaders. In my experience, being a head leader is not a simple task. I’ve learnt that Onderhoofleier 2021 assertiveness, mental toughness and being willing to Liam Otto –Gr.7A sacrifice time, helped make my journey easier, and I’d advise that future head leaders to carry that with Dit was n groot eer om as ‘n leier gekies te word, maar nog ‘n groter eer om them. I have to give tremendous thanks to the onderhoofleier te wees. Ek het nie dit teachers and Mrs E. Rossouw for helping me develop verwag nie en probeer my beste om ‘n into the leader I am today. I would like to leave the following famous quotes to future leaders: “Be the goeie voorbeeld vir my mede-leiers en change you want to see in the world” – Mahatma ook die leiers wat by ons oorvat, en veral Ghandi. “No one cares how much you know till they die leerders van Koos Sadie te wees. know how much you care.” – Theodore Roosevelt. I am honoured and proud of being Deputy Head Leader of Koos Sadie Primary School. Being Deputy head leader, it is important to set a good e xample to the other learners. In the beginning it was challenging, but with determination and courage, I managed to get through the hard times. My experience as Deputy Head Girl was to be open minded, focused and set goals with the intention to achieve it. Koos Sadie learners, “Don’t dream your dreams, live your dreams.” Believe in yourself, then anything is possible.
Prefect Seminar 2021 On the 5th of March after school, every prefect from group A and group B lined up in front of one of the entrances to the hall. We were all sanitised and marked off on a register, before we were allowed through the hall. We sat on chairs spread out from one another. After we were seated, we were greeted by Mrs L. Burger. Mrs Burger then handed out a Halaal chicken burger and some cool drink and snacks.
Once we were all finished eating, Mr Julius came onto the stage and spoke to us about the 7 habits of effective people. The 1st habit being to be proactive, meaning to control a situation where a visible problem will occur, instead of waiting to respond after the problem occurred. The 2nd habit was to begin with the end in mind. Think about yourself when you achieve your goal instead of just the process of getting there. The 3rd habit was to put first things first. Always put your main and important priorities first. Habit number 4 was to think win-win. The 5th habit was to seek first to understand, then to be understood meaning to listen to other people’s ideas and feelings without interrupting and trying to see things from their view points. Habit 6 was synergize which means teamwork and the 7th habit was sharpening the saw. Ghalied Myburgh & Jasmine Strauss – Gr.7E2
