Introduction
Rock n' Minerals Welcome our dearest readers to the world of rocks and minerals where we explore with a ROCK n’ ROLL style! Even before humans, rocks and minerals existed on Earth. Everywhere we look, we can find rocks and minerals and not even realize it. With the development of technology from the early stages of humans, rocks and minerals have played a vital role. Our cars run and our bodies stay nurtured through different minerals. Tourist spots such as the Puerto Princesa Underground River are famous because of its cave which is made of different rocks. As we enter and learn about them, this flipbook aims to raise awareness of how important are these resources by tackling some of their kinds, uses, examples, and more.
SET OF ROCKS AND MINERALS
What makes the matter a rock or a mineral?
Sandstone
sANDSTONE
DEFINITION Sandstones are considered the second most common sedimentary rock which is composed of sand-size grains of mineral, rock, or organic material. Their abundance in the Earth's Crust results in it having different textures and mineralogy. They are found on sedimentary basins all over the world. Sands that eventually become sandstones are delivered to the basin through rivers, waves, or wind.
USES & IMPORTANCE Sandstones can be found in homes and people may not even realize it. It is commonly used as tiles, walls, flower vases, and other decorative interiors. It is also used for creating artwork and figurines that may often be found in gardens and backyards. They are also often used in fireplaces and patios, and to give an accent on houses which is observed in the example.

Limestone
Limestone DEFINITION
Limestones are sedimentary rocks composed of calcium carbonate mineral in the form calcite with a chemical composition of CaCO3. Most of them have a granular texture and can be formed by chemical sedimentary processes, such as the precipitation of calcium carbonate from lake or ocean water since.
USES & IMPORTANCE Limestones can be found in our households. Toothpaste, breakfast cereal, paint, calcium supplement pills, Portland cement, and high-quality paper. An object I found at home that has limestone is chalk. Limestones are really important as a source of lime which is used n steel manufacturing, mining, paper production, water treatment and purification, and plastic and glass production.
Luster: Vitreous to dull
Type of Rock: Sedimentary
Streak: White to black
Fracture: Brittle
Hardness: 2 to 4
Color:
white, gray, off-white, yellow and red

Quartz
Quartz
DEFINITION Quartz is the second most common mineral on Earth composed of silicon and oxygen, with a chemical composition of SiO2. It is highly resistant to physical and chemical weathering and tends to concentrate in sandstones and other detrital rocks. It forms at all temperatures. It is abundant in igneous, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks.
USES & IMPORTANCE Quartz might be the definition of a mineral for many since it looks like a crystal and it is often used for jewelry, glassmaking, watches, and clocks, and used in many industries such as the Petroleum Industry. Quartz is very important since it is accessible due to its abundance and durability. It is one of the strongest materials on earth when build with high-quality resins, it forms materials that are sturdy and could last a long time.
Luster: Nonmetallic Glassy
Type of Rock: Igneous
Streak: None
Fracture: Conchoidal
Hardness: 7
Color:
Colorless, Smoky Gray, Milky White, Pink

Marble
Marble DEFINITION
Marble is a metamorphic rock that forms when limestone or dolomite is subjected to heat, pressure, and aqueous solutions. It is composed primarily of the mineral calcite. In the more severely deformed rocks, the grains show stripes and may be elongated in a particular direction or even crushed which is observed on marble.
USES & IMPORTANCE Marble is the most used rock since it is used in architecture, sculpture, Construction Aggregate, Whiting, Soil Treatment, Neutralizing Acids, In Supplements, and Cemetery markers. Moreover, it is still often observed on the tiles of houses since they give a nice aesthetic.
Luster: Dull to Pearly to Subvitreous Type of Rock: Metamorphic Streak: White
Cleavage: Rhombohedral
Hardness: 2 to 3
Color: Wide Variety

Talc
TalC
DEFINITION Talc might be one of the most known minerals. It is distinguished from almost all other minerals by its extreme softness. When crushed, it turns into a powder that has the ability to absorb moisture, oils, and odor. One of the remarkable features of talc is its simple, almost constant composition which is it is a basic magnesium silicate.
USES & IMPORTANCE Talc is often crushed to turn into a powder since it is really soft. It is often used in cosmetics development, especially with powder-based products which can be seen in the example given. It also has its medical advantages because it absorbs moisture well and helps cut down on friction it makes it useful for keeping skin dry and helping to prevent rashes that are badly needed by newborn babies.
Luster: Waxlike or pearly
Type of Rock: Soapstone
Streak: White jot to Pearl Black
Fracture: Uneven
Hardness: 1
Color:
Ranging from whitish grey to green

ROcky Life As we learned about the different rocks and minerals, I hope this flipbook has shown you that rocks and minerals can be found everywhere and they might be different but they all have a purpose. These rocks and minerals occur naturally and they are non-renewable resources. They are limited no matter how abundant they seem to be so we must take time to appreciate them and of course, take care of our planet even better. Everything that our planet has, we benefit from it and we often take advantage of it. So let this be a wake-up call. Just like rocks and minerals, people are different and composed of different things because they came from different places and were formed in different ways, but the one thing they all have in common is that they are all important and their existence has a purpose. As humans, let our purpose be to nourish our planet and be responsible citizens.
