Introduction Do you know exactly one in every 4 persons in the world will go through depression and anxiety disorders at least once in their lifetime? We do not want to scare you. But while you are reading this article right now, you may show preliminary symptoms of mental health disorder.

Mental health is a big concern for individuals, for nations at large. When people like you and me, individuals who are part of a nation are not at the peak of their health— when they are not being able to manage their jobs efficiently, not only do we face losses. But you see, this is like a chain. It starts at an individual level and trickles down to large organizations, companies, government and even entire nations!

However, in the whole process, you lose yourself. You lose your identity. You feel exhausted and drained. This is because you think you have to sacrifice your basic needs— your basic emotional needs for the sake of your children.

This leaves you feeling tired, exhausted and you show irritated behavior with your spouse and family. You feel so guilty and selfish to think you are craving ice cream and you want to go buy it. If you are a mum reading this and if you have faced a similar issue, you will often feel that there is no reason you can find for your unusual behavior.

Students and parents—the eternal conflict

Students are no better off. They have to constantly juggle between their assignments, daily home tasks and meeting deadlines. There is also peer pressure. From a parent's perspective, it is easy to tell the kid to stay away from toxic friends. But for the kids it is not that simple.

You are not in their shoes. You do not face the same situation they do at school. You do not have to go through the conversations. You do not have to face the triggers they do. The anxiety

rate is much higher in students and teenagers. Apparently, there is a war between what parents expect kids to do and what their peer group influences them to do.

Parents often forget that the kids are adolescents. They are going through a transition phase. This is a very difficult time for them both mentally and emotionally. They feel drained and dejected. They will feel exhausted and irritated at everything for no apparent reason. Shouting at them or silencing them is not the permanent solution. it will only make them hate you in future.

They will never open up about what is going on in their life to you. This is just because they don't feel safe around you. A student goes through multiple things all at once. They aim for a good career. They want to make friends. They want to go out there and explore stuff. They want to have fun and they just want to feel loved and accepted. But due to miscommunication between parents and kids, situations become worse.

Conversations go in the wrong direction, inviting chaos. This leads students to take extreme actions. They end up self harming themselves or sabotaging studies. They want to take revenge, fall into poor company and drug addiction. You see, the problem is not, as a parent, you cannot handle your child's emotions. The problem is you see your child is going through these difficult times and you turn a blind eye to them. You do not take any step.

It is your responsibility as seniors, as a parent to come up and take the right guidance for your kids' wellbeing. So she can shine in her personal life, in her academic life and live a happy fulfilling life. We human beings are not trained to deal with emotional ups and downs. But there is help out there!
