LETTER FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Brothers and Sisters, Gathering on this final Sunday of the Advent Season, our hearts rejoice as the great Feast of our Salvation draws near. Amid the last minute gift buying, card sending and partying that is so characteristic of this time of year, we sometimes leave little room to silently reflect on the gift that God gives to us this Season. “How silently, how silently
The wondrous gift is given!
So God imparts to human hearts
The blessings of His heaven.” So we sing in the famous Christmas carol, “O little Town of Bethlehem.” In Jesus, our way to eternal happiness opens as this child grows to maturity and gives his all for humanity. It is providential that our holiday season invariably begins with Thanksgiving. For the greatest gifts in our lives naturally call forth from us gratitude. During this Advent and dawning Christmas Season, I remain grateful for the many parishioners whose prayers and good wishes continue to sustain me in my physical challenges. With that in mind, I would ask for your special prayers as I undergo an important medical test this coming Thursday, December 22nd. The medication that I presently take through oral tablet will be injected directly into my spine to determine if I might be a future candidate for an internal pump that would continuously put this medication into where it is most effective throughout a 24-hour period. Individuals who are challenged with rigidity and ‘spasticity’ in their legs as a result of neurological conditions have found this procedure most effective. If the trial is a success then at some point in the early New Year I will undergo the surgery to implant the pump. The hoped for outcome of such a procedure will be the ability to walk a bit more naturally as it relaxes the rigidity in my legs. Beginning our new week in Christ, let us commend to our merciful Lord, all those who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, especially Mike Martinez. May they be at peace. Always forward, Msgr. Art

18 de Diciembre del 2011 † 4° Domingo de Adviento

IX
