He has a brother, Theo, who financially supported him when he became an artist at the age of 27. He rose to prominence as the most famous and influential painter in Western art history. Despite his tremendous career, his life was not simple, which is why he died at the age of 37 from severe depression, which caused him to commit suicide. 1 Starry night & Sunflower The bedroom in Arles & Almond Blossom Wheatfield with Crows & The Potato Eaters Cafe Terrace at Nigh & Wheatfield under the Thunderclouds Self Portrait with Dark Helt hat at the Easel and a quote. nnoottaabbllee ppaaiinnttiinnggss Starry night Sunflower 1889 1888 This is the most well-known work of art in the world. Van Gogh did this while incarcerated at Saint Paul De Mausole; he was doing well at the hospital since he had the most freedom. He was allowed to wander outside and do whatever he pleased particularly painting. He was suffering from depression and hallucinations while creating this work of art. That is why this work of art is entirely based on his imagination. Sunflower, 1888 was one of several sunflower paintings Van Gogh created while in Arles, France. He created three sunflower paintings in which he employed varied shades of yellow, demonstrating that even though they are diverse in shade but the same color, they can still produce a picture without losing their eloquence. Sunflower, according to Van Gogh, represent "gratitude," which is why they are precious to him. 1

Almond Blossom The bedroom inArles 1888 1890 nnoottaabbllee ppaaiinnttiinnggss When he was in Arles, he had a room at the Yellow House and decided to decorate it himself. He equipped it with modest furniture and put his artworks on the wall, resulting in contrasting colors that he intended to symbolize "sleep.". This was the painting that was nearest to the Van Gogh family's heart. Almond bloom represents new life in the spring, and he picked it as a subject for a painting as a gift to his brother Theo and sister-in-law Jo, who had just given birth to his nephew named after him because Theo said he wants his son to be as tenacious and courageous as Van Gogh. His nephew even founded a Van Gogh Museum. 2

WheatfieldwithCrows 1890 nnoottaabbllee ppaaiinnttiinnggss ThePotatoEaters 1885 There is a legend that this is Van Gogh's final painting, and that the ominous sky, crows, and deserted road represent the end of his life. However, he went on to produce other works of art following this one. The truth is that he created this painting to represent sadness and isolation. The Potato Eaters was intended as a showcase for Van Gogh's abilities as a figure painter, therefore he purposefully chose a challenging composition. The peasants were given rugged visage and bony, labor-intensive hands because the painting had to capture the hard reality of farm life. With their hands in the dish, they "had tilled the land themselves," he sought to demonstrate. that they have so earned their meals in an honest manner.. He used earth tones to paint the five figures, "something like the color of a really dusty potato, of course unpeeled." Van Gogh placed greater value on the painting's message than its accurate depiction of human anatomy or technical brilliance. He was very happy with the outcome, although his painting received a lot of criticism due of the figures' errors and the picture's gloomy colors. The Potato Eaters is one of Van Gogh's most well-known pieces today. 3

nnoottaabbllee ppaaiinnttiinnggss Cafe Terrace at Night 1888 Wheatfield under the Thunderclouds 1890 Vincent van Gogh's "Café Terrace at Night" shows the café's terrace at night on the Place du Forum in Arles, France. Only a blue sky with Van Gogh's distinctive star motifs can be seen in the painting of the night; there is no black in the sky. It is Van Gogh's first painting with a starry background. It represents the artist's upbeat state of mind at the moment. The artist's open mind and upbeat attitude are shown by the open green windows. The vacant seats in the front are supposed to represent the artist's barren past. A week prior to his passing, he accomplished this. Wheatfields under Thunderclouds has an unusually long format. It, along with the straightforward composition of two horizontal planes, underlines the majesty of the countryside. Even though there were happy sentiments in nature, this painting also captures the grief and loneliness that the artist was experiencing at the time. 4

Self-portrait withDarkHelt Hat attheEasel 1886 The self-portrait by Van Gogh is a study of the artist and his personal suffering. Each of Van Gogh's selfportraits may be connected to a certain point in his life, but they all share the feature that the face and the background are the key to observing what is concealed in his mind. 5 nnoottaabbllee ppaaiinnttiinngg && qquuoottee ““IIffII aamm wwoorrtthh aannyytthhiinngg llaatteerr,,II aamm wwoorrtthh ssoommeetthhiinngg nnooww..
