A methodology for succesS learning situations

PROJECT JOURNAL

visIBLE thinking

Bring real life into your classroom and put your pupils at the centre of their learning through one Learning Situation per term.

This special Project Journal has been designed to give additional support to pupils working through Learning Situations.

This set of thinking routines will help pupils see and explore multiple perspectives of the same issue.

Whether you are already incorporating a ProjectBased-Learning approach in your teaching or it’s completely new to you, in Outside the Box you’ll find all the support you need to make it a success.

The Project Journal is a valuable resource for keeping track of the entire project. It contains all the steps needed to complete the Learning Situations:

SOME OF THE THINKING ROUTINES YOU WILL FIND IN OUTSIDE THE BOX:

• Project description

• Zoom in.

• Driving question

• Colour-Symbol-Image.

• Create groups and choose roles

• Think-Pair-Share.

• Need-to-know questions

• Headline.

• Develop and critique

• I used to think. Now I think.

• Show and tell

• The Explanation Game.

• Reflect

• Word-Phrase-Sentence.

2

VISUAL thinking Visual Thinking tools are used to summarise key content concepts in a way that is easily understandable and fun for pupils.

HOW DOES VISUAL THINKING WORK? Visual Thinking is easy to use and so much fun. Each unit includes: • Visual Summary: an overview of the main content. • Tips and Tricks: a collection of practical suggestions to learn to draw in an easy way. • Visual Challenge: an activity where pupils put what they have learnt into practice in a visual way.

PUBLIC speaking

Outside the Box brings computational thinking and design thinking to the classroom through a hands-on approach. Teach your pupils one of life’s most important skills. Acquiring proficiency in public speaking will have a lifelong positive impact on pupils’ performance at school and in their future careers.

DID YOU KNOW? Your pupils become special agents whose mission is to defend the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Outside the Box contains supplementary materials so that you can introduce the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in your classes.

Outside the Box provides 2 types of tips - Message tips and Presentation tips.

Available in Science as an extra component. Integrated in Natural Science as an extra unit.

SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)

SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS

This is a great way to teach pupils to act responsibly and think sustainably.

GREAT NEWS! By acquiring public speaking skills at an early age, we avoid the recurring stage fright that grips many adults.

Developing social and emotional skills helps your learners develop healthy identities, manage emotions, achieve personal and collective goals, feel and show empathy for others, and much more.

Outside the Box integrates SEL to help create a positive learning environment and improve the learning experience.

Question Techniques to Help Students Dive Deeper

Learning Stations in Primary Education

ByME Digital Tour for Primary

Playing with Emotions, Mindfully

Planning with Language in Mind

Questions can be a powerful, student-centred teaching tool when they are correctly framed. In this webinar we’ll be looking at some techniques you can use to help make sure you are maximising the potential of the questions you ask in your lessons, and thus maximising the learning for your learners.

Would you like to use learning stations in your lessons but don’t know how to start? In this workshop, you’ll know the basics of this method and the importance of its application in learning a foreign language. Besides this, you’ll learn different activities and games to carry out the learning stations.

In this training session we will take a tour of all the features of ByME’s digital books and resources for teachers and students. Learn how to quickly navigate to find any material or resource on the digital platform and master everything ByME has to offer you.

In this webinar, we’ll explore how we can change our mood through simple theatre exercises, and try out some short mindful practices to help calm students when they’re over-excited, or wake them up when they’ve low energy. Fun, dynamic and practical, this session is suitable for teachers working online or in a classroom.

In this session we will explore a range of practical and fuss-free CLIL activities which should get all your young learners feeling involved, while successfully learning the new content and practising all four skills in an integrated way. These activities will be adaptable to different subjects and different levels in Primary.

Joanna Herbert

This training is essential if your objective is to create a communicative classroom. We will examine how to plan lessons with the language triptych: language of, language for and language through learning. Then, we will see how to analyse the language of our content subject and implement strategies to recycle language effectively.
