REV. MICHAEL FRANCIS KOLARCIK, S.J. Rector, Pontifical Biblical Institute, Rome Father Michael Kolarcik, S.J. is currently the Rector of the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He was professor of Old Testament for some twenty five years at Regis College, the Jesuit Theology School in Toronto, Canada. He also lectured at other Jesuit institutions: Campion College, Regina, the Aloysianum in Bratislava, Slovakia, and Hekima College in Nairobi. His main publications are: The Ambiguity of Death in the Book of Wisdom (1991), and the commentary on the Wisdom of Solomon in the New Interpreter’s Bible (1997).

Mons. Fernando Ramos Pérez fue vicario parroquial primero en la parroquia Cristo de Emaús de Lo Prado y después en Santo Toribio de Las Condes. En 1993 partió a Roma a estudiar teología bíblica en la Pontificia Universidad Gregoriana, donde consiguió sucesivamente la licenciatura y el doctorado con máxima distinción. Cuando estaba terminando sus estudios, comenzó a trabajar en la Congregación para los Obispos de la Santa Sede y posteriormente fue nombrado monseñor en 2003. En marzo del año 2007 regresa a Chile, siendo nombrado Vicario para la Educación. A finales de ese mismo año fue nombrado Rector del Seminario Pontificio Mayor de Santiago. En el año 2009 fue elegido Presidente de la Organización de Seminarios de Chile (OSCHI). El 23 de septiembre de 2011 fue nombrado por el Arzobispo de Santiago, monseñor Ricardo Ezzati, Vicario para el Clero. En el año 2012 fue elegido Vice Presidente de la Organización de Seminarios de Latinoamérica (OSLAM). Con fecha 1 de febrero de 2014, el Papa lo nombró Obispo Auxiliar de Santiago y titular de Tetci. El 10 de mayo tomó posesión de su cargo en la Catedral Metropolitana.

DEMPSEY ROSALES ACOSTA, SSL, SThD St. Thomas University, Houston, Texas This workshop will present the problematic texts regarding the virginity of Mary and Jesus’ siblings as portrayed in the Greek version of the canonical Gospels. This study includes examining the patristic approaches to the problem of the virginity of Mary, comparing the Catholic doctrine with the Jewish tradition of the Talmud and the positions of some modern Catholic scholars.

Deep Reading Scripture SR. MARY ANNE FOLEY, CND, PhD Associate Professor, University of Scranton, Pennsylvania This workshop will introduce Shindoku, a way of “reading” scripture not only with the eyes, but the ears, mouth, hands, and mind, as well. The goal is for the text to penetrate deeply enough that one can engage in “heart reading.” Participants will have the opportunity to practice Shindoku with a passage from the Psalms.

The Hidden Pearl of Great Price Jesus Gave Us at Emmaus MARY BIRMINGHAM Director of Christian Initiation, Music, Liturgy, Ascension Church, Melbourne, Florida We have heard the story of Jesus and the disciples on the road to Emmaus over and over again. We think we know what he said, how he said and what he meant. What we may not have discovered, however, is the timeless pearl of great price he gave us in that event—a fool proof model for evangelizing God’s people—a model that can be used with adults and children alike. In this workshop, we will sit at the feet of the Master and learn his approach to passing on the faith—for creating a conversion-centered learning model that can be used in the classroom or in a person-to-person encounter.

How can scripture, tradition and prayer inform our approach to the work of proclaiming the Word of God in the modern age?

What We Have Seen and Heard Celebrating 50 years of Dei Verbum MARY MIRRIONE National Director, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd “…so that you may have fellowship with us and our common fellowship be with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ” (1 John 1:2-3). The Bible is one book, one history, authored by One Author for one people. The unity of history as told in the Bible is the Unity of God’s Plan to reveal himself to all people of all time so that all may enter into this fellowship. This Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is solidly based in both Scripture and Liturgy and celebrates Dei Verbum in its work with children and adults. This catechesis is a Montessori-based method of Christian faith formation intended for children ages 3-12 but with powerful implications for adults as well. One of the founders of the work, Dr Sofia Cavalletti, a noted biblical scholar, was first inspired to understand children’s spirituality following a discussion over a passage of scripture with several children. The children’s engagement and response to the discussion caused her to seek a deeper understanding of the relationship between God and his people so that, as St Augustine wrote and Dei Verbum states, “by hearing the message of salvation the whole world may believe, by believing it may hope and by hoping it may love.”

El pan en el evangelio de Marcos: la disputa entre los hijos y los perros. DRA. El Dr. Figueroa fue Director de la Sociedad Bíblica Argentina y miembro de laJunta Mundial de Sociedades Bíblicas Unidas. Fue el conductor del programa de televisión “Biblia, diálogo vigente” con el Cardenal Jorge Bergoglio y el Rabino Abraham Skorka. Dr. Figueroa es ganador premio “Martín Fierro”. Autor del libro homónimo editado en cuatro países. Conduce el Programa Radial “Diálogos para el encuentro”. Dr. Figueroa es un reconocido conferencista y autor de artículos, especialmente sobre temas bíblicos y ecuménicos.

El Rev. P. Samuel Fernández, nació en Santiago de Chile en 1963 y recibió la ordenación sacerdotal en la Arquidiócesis de Santiago en 1992. En 1997 se doctoró en Patrología en el «Augustinianum» de Roma. Desde 1997 enseña Patrología y Cristología en la Facultad de Teología de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Tiene publicaciones sobre los Orígenes del Cristianismo y la interpretación de la Biblia en la Iglesia primitiva. Ha llevado a cabo traducciones de obras patrísticas. Fue el editor de las obras de san Alberto Hurtado.

After being ordained a priest in 1999, he graduated in Exegesis and Biblical Languages at the Biblicum Pontifical Institute of Rome (SSL) in 2004, and achieved his Doctorate in Biblical Theology (STD) from the Gregorian Pontifical University in 2009. Since 2008 he works as a “peritus” and consultant for the Presidential Liaison of Roman Catholic Ministries of the American Bible Society (New York), and since 2010 is full time faculty member of the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.

She presents workshops across the US and Canada in RCIA, and liturgical and sacramental catechesis. She is the author of Word and Worship Workbook, Years, A,B and C (Paulist Press),Year Round Catechumenate (Liturgical Training Pub), Formed in Faith (World Library Publications), Purified and Enlightened RCIA Sessions for Lent, (World Library Publications) an online catechetical resource, “Faith Life and Creed, Catechesis for Christian Living (pastoralplanning.com or TEAMRCIA). She has also written numerous articles. Ms. Birmingham has a Masters degree in Theology and Liturgy from St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN.

David Trobisch was born in Cameroon, West Africa, grew up in Austria and studied theology in Germany. He taught New Testament at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, Yale Divinity School, and Bangor Theological Seminary. As a scholar Dr. David Trobisch is internationally recognized for his work on the Letters of Paul, the Formation of the Christian Bible, Performance Criticism, and Bible Manuscripts. Since February 2014, he serves as the director of the Green Collection in Oklahoma City, one of the largest collections of manuscripts, rare Bibles, and Biblical artifacts in private hands.

Mary Mirrione began working with CGS in 1992. She has been a formation leader since 1997, serving as such at home and abroad working with those in the Diocese of Brownsville, the Diocese of Toledo with En Camino Ministry, and the San Carlo Apache Reservation in Arizona. She also worked with the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal in Honduras and Mother Teresa’s Missionaries of Charity throughout the States as well as in Manila, Philippines and Kolkata, India. She served on the Board of the National Association as the first Development Committee chair, a founding member of CGS Fund Advisory Board and produced the video, “Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, where a child can fall in love with God”. She was also a member of first cohort at Aquinas Institute to receive a Masters in Pastoral Ministry in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd. She has worked in the Diocese of Phoenix since 2003, as a presenter and formation leader for diocesan catechists and catechetical leaders. Editor in Chief, America, the National Catholic Review

Rev. Matt Malone, S.J., is the 14th editor in chief of America, the National Catholic Review. Fr. Malone began his tenure as editor in chief on October 1, 2012. At the time of his appointment he was the youngest editor in chief in America’s history. He served for two years as an associate editor, from 2007-2009, when he covered foreign policy and domestic politics. He was the recipient of the 2006 first place Catholic Press Association award for essay writing. His writing has appeared in numerous national and international publications and his work and ideas have been featured in The New York Times and The Washington Post among others. He is the author of Catholiques Sans Etiquette, a book concerning the church and the political, which was published in 2014 by Salvator Press in Paris.

Rev. Gonzague Leroux is a native of France. He received a Masters degree in Biology and then after his studies, at the age of 23, he chose to be a volunteer missionary with Heart’s Home, an international Catholic non-profit organization founded in 1990 to foster and spread a culture of compassion. Father Leroux spent two years with Heart’s Home in Kazakhstan. Following this experience, he decided to follow his call for the priesthood remaining with Heart’s Home. He studied at the Pontifical University of St Thomas Aquinas in Rome, where he earned an STB in Theology in 2005. He then studied at the Jesuit School of Theology of Santa Clara University in Berkeley, California, finishing with an M.Th and STL in Dogmatic Theology and Theological Aesthetics in 2011. He now lives in a Heart’s Home’s Center in Brooklyn.

Père Gonzague Leroux est originaire de France. Il a reçu une maîtrise en biologie. Après ses études , à l'âge de 23 ans, il a choisi d'être un volontaire missionnaire avec Points-Cœur, une organisation catholique internationale à but non-lucratif fondée en 1990 pour favoriser et diffuser une culture de la compassion. Père Leroux a alors passé deux ans dans la mission du Kazakhstan. Suite à cette expérience, il décida de suivre son appel à la prêtrise en restant avec le mouvement Points-Cœur. Il a étudié à l'université pontificale Saint Thomas d'Aquin à Rome, où il a obtenu un STB en théologie en 2005. Il a ensuite étudié à l'école jésuite de théologie de l'Université de Santa Clara à Berkeley, en Californie, en finissant en 2011 avec un STL et un Master en théologie dogmatique et théologique esthétique. Il vit maintenant dans un maison de Points-Coeur basée à Brooklyn, NY.

El Hno. Ricardo Grzona, PhD nació en Mendoza, Rep. Argentina. Ha ejercido gran parte de su ministerio en el CELAM como Director de Catequesis del ITEPAL e igualmente como Secretario Ejecutivo de Catequesis y Educación Católica para América Latina. Ha desarrollado metodologías de Reflexión Bíblica utilizados por miles de usuarios a través de Internet, radio, televisión y publicaciones de libros de espiritualidad. Es Presidente de la Fundación Ramón Pané, encargada de animar la espiritualidad de los agentes evangelizadores.

Rev. John Edgar Caterson, Ph.D.



Rev. Dr. John Edgar Caterson serves as the Tampa Bay District Overseer for the Christian & Missionary Alliance. He has served as a Senior Advisor to the US Military Chief of Chaplains and serves a Senior Advisor to Fundacion Ramon Pane & Roman Catholic Ministries of American Bible Society. Dr. Caterson specializes in next generational and inter-confessional practicums. He attended Toccoa Falls College, Princeton Theological Seminary, The University of Edinburgh in Scotland, and The Beeson International Center, holding an undergraduate degree in Philosophy & Religion, a Master’s degree in Divinity with a concentration in Medical Ethics, was a Supervised Post-Graduate Fellow, and holds a Doctorate in four disciplines - Story Integration, Narrative Theology, Leadership Development, and Attribution Psychology. He is the co-author of Engage Your Strengths 4.0, and two children’s books - Acts Tracks and Bible Trek: Luke.
