Bella was tiny and furry and black. She was just four weeks old when she came to live in the big house with the big porch.

There were two big people named Mr. Bob and Miss Sally and another puppy named Precious in the big house.

Precious wasn’t much bigger than she was. Would Precious like her?

Bella sure did miss her mommy and her brother and sister!

The man who owned Bella’s mommy and daddy and all the other puppies put them in a big box, together.

The man brought the box to the big house. Bella saw a woman looking down at all the puppies, in the box.

And then, the woman reached down and picked her up! She chose Bella from all the others! The woman held her close and petted her softly.

Bella could hear the woman’s heart beating. It sounded just like her mommy’s heart! Could this be her new mommy?

Bella was sad when the woman put her back in the box. The woman said, “I just love this little black dog, but I don’t think I can take care of another one.”

The next day, Mr. Bob called the man with the puppies and said, “Bring that little black dog back to our house, my wife really misses her.”

The man brought her back, and Bella was so happy to be back with Miss Sally!

She laid in Miss Sally’s lap, in a big chair. The woman’s lap was warm, and little Bella slept.

Bella was so happy, sitting in Miss Sally’s lap. Bella didn’t like the bottle Miss Sally tried to give her!

Miss Sally didn’t know she could drink from a dish!

Miss Sally fixed Bella some milk, and she put the milk in a little dish. It was an antique tea bag dish. The dish was tiny – just like Bella.

Little Bella drank all the milk in the tiny dish. Miss Sally was so happy!

Little Bella dreamed she was chasing a kitty!

Miss Sally looked down at the tiny puppy sleeping, in her lap. She thought she saw the tiny black dog smile. Little Bella was very happy.

Bella’s new mommy rubbed her back as little Bella lay in her lap.

Miss Sally scratched little Bella’s ear. Bella licked her new mommy’s finger.

She had to let Miss Sally know how much she loved her. She also wanted her new mommy to keep scratching!

Little black Bella had a new home and a new mommy. Little Bella was very happy, and Miss Sally was very happy.
