Writing Performance Task Theft On The Lusitania Chapter 1: The Missing Diamond “Ah, such a beautiful ship. Would be a shame if something were to happen to it.” “Don’t joke about these kinds of things. After all, we are on the ship.” Moriaty and Rick were talking as they walked in the dining hall. It had been three days since the ship left dock in New York. So far, everything seemed to be going well. Suddenly, shouting could be heard. They rushed to look at what was happening. When they arrived, they saw a lady in fancy clothes standing in front of a cabin with an open door. “What’s wrong?” Moriaty asked. The lady responded, “Ah, when I arrived back at my cabin, the door was open and someone in a cloak got up from the floor. When I checked in my cabin, the diamond on my desk was gone! When I left my cabin, the person was gone.” “Where did the cloaked person run to and what color was the diamond?” Moriaty asked. “The person was running towards that way.” She responded while pointing down the corridor, “And the color of the diamond is red.” Together, they searched the room for any evidence and found a piece of blonde hair on the floor. “I think we should report this to the crew.” Rick said. “Yes I think we should.” Chapter 2: The Search After the crew was informed, the crew called everyone to the deck to be searched while the lady, whose name was Ms. Kristina Rosewald, was asked to identify who it was. She identified 4 people. Mrs Sachell who was a former criminal, Mr John smith who was brought in from the bedbay, Mr.Wozniak who was going to britain to volunteer for the army and start a new life, and lastly Alexander Romanov who was descended from the former russian royal family.They were kept under surveillance and the crew were told to take notice of their actions. As Night fell, everyone returned to their cabins and the crew began patrolling the corridors. Everyone would be in their cabins early as all night events would be canceled for the day due to the theft. In his cabin, Moriaty would look at all the evidence and would think about the case. He had not expected to encounter a crime in the middle of a trip. He may be a detective, but he should not be working on a vacation!

In the morning, Moriaty and Rick made their way to Mrs Sachell’s cabin. They had just received permission to search the cabins of the suspects for the diamond. When they arrived at her cabin, a crew member let them in and they started their search. Her cabin was quite simple. It was a windowless box with a toilet, a desk, and a bed. They found two pieces of potential evidence. A book written about diamonds and auctioning them, and a hoodie that looked similar to the one described by Mrs. Kristina. At Mr. John smith’s room, He let them in to do their search. They found some antibiotics prescribed to help with his injury and other stuff that had nothing to do with the case itself. Moriaty concluded that either he was innocent, or hid the diamond somewhere else. When they arrived at Mr.Wozniak’s room, no one was there to let them in. So they had to spend 15 minutes trying to find a crew member. When they found one,they did not believe them so they had to call someone on the bridge to let them in, which took another 5 minutes. When they finally got in, they quickly began their search. They looked all over the room. Under the bed, in the blankets, in the closet, but the diamond was nowhere to be found. However, just as they were about to move on to the next room, Moriaty spotted a small space between the wood board of the open drawer. When he pointed it out, Rick walked over and put his hand into the space, lifting up the board. Under the board, a small box was hidden. When they opened the box, they found it. The red diamond was a masterpiece. With the words “eterno amore” engraved into it.

No wonder people would steal it. With the diamond found, they took it and made their way up to the bridge to inform the captain. Their plan? Call Mr.Wozniak up to the bridge and arrest him. Then hand him over to the British police when they arrive. Chapter 3: Schwiegers Gift It has been an hour since they called him up. With him still not arriving, They decided that he probably figured out that he was busted and went into hiding somewhere on the ship. Moriaty said to the captain, “We will arrive in port tomorrow, we should begin searching for him now.” Nodding his head, the captain called for the crew members and organized a search effort to find Mr.Wozniak.

“You see the boats there, Rick? We are around 12 miles off the shore of ireland! The faraway land mass barely in our vision is ireland, It’s surprising how close we are to shore!” Moriaty exclaimed. In the distance on the other side of the ship, a family was enjoying their vacation. “Father, what's that!” the boy asked? “What?” the father replied. “The line of air bubbles coming towards the ship. Is it a shark?” the boy said. The father, who was a former sailor, looked at where his son was pointing. By the time he realized what it was, It was already too late. “THUNK!” a loud sound could be heard on the lower deck. A large splash engulfed the side of the ship. Before anyone could react, a loud explosion could be heard, followed by another explosion. “What was that!” Moriaty shouted. Immediately, alarms sounded. The crew went around with megaphones telling all passengers to drop everything and go to the deck. They were abandoning ship. Chapter 4: Chaos and Water The two quickly made their way to the deck, pushing through crowds of people. It was a mix of all the classes. From the rich to the poor, everyone was pushing, trying to get out, trying to get on the lifeboats. “Women and children first!” the crew were trying to control the crowd. The captain had given the signal and sent a SOS signal to the shore. As the people tried to get on board, one of the light boats immediately sank. The wails and screams of those on board could be heard by the people who were still on deck. Smoke could be seen from the sinking side of the ship. With the ship beginning to list towards portside. However, Moriaty and Rick were unable to push through the crowds. Another explosion could be heard. Moriaty swore as they realized, the lifeboats were all already deployed. They were going to have to survive on their own. The crew tried to keep the people left over as a riot broke out. With the fire quickly spreading to the rest of the ship even with half the ship below water. Black smoke billowed as the coal caught fire. Moriaty, having lost Rick in the crowds, stayed on the last remaining part of the ship above water. However, It eventually also entered the water.

18 minutes after impact, the ship finally sank. Entering the water, Moriaty felt as if he had jumped into an ice bath. He quickly swam and got on some stray piece of wood. After an hour had passed, In the distance,he spotted a large hull. It was another ship. The HMS Juno had come to the rescue. Aftermath 6th of october, 1919. Today marked the official signing of the Treaty of Versailles. “Peace with Honor” it was called by British news. However, to the losers of such a war, there was no honor. Although this had marked the end of the Weltkrieg, atleast of paper. In reality, it was only the beginning. With the annexation of all British and French colonies in Africa, the central powers have expanded. In South Africa, the wall of aparthied only grew as the Germans continued the racist policies of the british. In France, with the annexation of core French territory, the army launched a coup d'etat against the government and installed in its place, a syndicalist government by the people. The Third republic was no more, all hail the Communes of France. In Britain, the economy was in ruins after the war and due to the bad conditions and mass lay offs, the people went on strike and it eventually escalated into a civil war. “The army shot first” was the slogan used by the rebels. Eventually, with the collapse of the government, the crown fled to canada, hoping to weather out the storm. In America, The Socialists gathered in the great lakes area. The America First Party, led by former louisiana senator Huey Long, were elected after the resignation of President Herbert Hooveer during the height of the venezuela scandal. However, the election was declared invalid by the Socialist Party OF America, who led a popular uprising. The military used this chance to seize power and quickly took control of Washington DC. With General Mc Douglas leading them, the country fractured into factions. Will America ever be united again? Or will the once united states stay fractured? We will never know. With the collapse of the red army, the White Army reinstated the Tzar and the Empire of Russia is once again ruled by the Tzars. With Trotsky’s red revolution crushed, the new Tzar began a reign of terror across russia. Bringing back memories of Ivan the terrible.
