In order to detect the presence of carpal lesions, radiographic study was performed in 56 working dogs, consisting in German Shepherd and Labrador Retriever breed dogs aged between 9 month and 8 years old.
A total of 6 images were obtained by dog (routine projections: dorso palmar and medio lateral, and additional view: medio-lateral flex projection for each forelimb).
Carpal lesions were found in 67.86% of German Shepherd dogs. The radiographic changes most commonly observed in the carpus joints of these dogs were the presence of osteophytes, joint instability and irregular bone contour. In Labrador Retriever dogs, 60.71% revealed articular lesions. The most common finding on carpal radiographs was metaphyseal osteopathy, osteophytes and retained ulnar cartilage core.
