59TH SEASON! THANK YOU WELCOME Every VYOA season is special! We fondly remember past senior soloists, moving Palooza speeches, and nervous and excited young students entering the building for the first time with their junior-sized instruments. As we reflect on these musicians and who they were, we often wonder where they are now. While each season is memorable, there is something truly remarkable about this, our 59th season. Our orchestras are teeming with excitement over the music they’ll be playing this year— the classics are there, of course, but also names like Florence Price and Scott Joplin mix with contemporary names like Jennifer Higdon, John Williams, and even one of their own peers: Maaike Dam. We are thrilled to highlight two celebrated Mexican composers Arturo Márquez and José Pablo Moncayo in our side-by-side concert with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra in February. All of the VYOA programs reflect the beautiful communities of the North Country. Musicians come to our orchestras from counties across the region—from Chittenden County to the Northeast Kingdom, from Southern Vermont to communities across the lake in New York. Each year, we see the power that music has in developing our unique orchestral communities by connecting each orchestra member to music. By playing diverse kinds of music from silent film scores and music from video games to classical compositions, these young musicians learn that a love of music can underscore their paths in school and beyond. They are truly growing up VYOA. Thank you for joining us for this incredible season. We can’t wait to see where it takes us!
