DE FLORIDA New : Adju ste d Fuel Mi d co u rse Fi l i n g ; Ma rch 202 3 On March 7, 2023, Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC) approved Duke Energy Florida’s updated fuel and capacity rate request and recovery of storm restoration costs. The new rate will take effect beginning April 2023 and reflects recovery of the fuel underrecovery for a period of 21 months. This extended recovery period and updated 2023 fuel cost estimates approved by the FPSC reduce the residential bill impact by $27.21, compared to the January filing. In addition to fuel costs, this rate adjustment also includes storm restoration work, mostly associated with hurricanes Ian and Nicole. Similar to its January 23 filing, DEF has also proposed to refund customers, through the capacity clause, approximately $11.7 million over 9 months related to favorable tax savings generated by DEF’s continued investment in solar generation. In a separate filing, DEF has asked to recover approximately $442.1 million in storm costs over 12 months. The monthly bill for a typical residential customer using 1,000 kWh will be $171.83, which is an increase of $6.28, or just under 4%. Most commercial and industrial customers will see bill impacts ranging from a 2% to 3.9% increase. Customers also saw a bill decrease effective in March 2023 associated with a decrease in the Asset Securitization Charge (ASC). The following is a breakdown of the March 2023 bill compared to the proposed April 2023 residential bill for a customer using 1,000 kWh of electricity:
