Here’s what Centre Director Darren Winter had to say about the recognition: “We’re honoured to be recognised for our excellent facilities here at Junction 32. As an aside I think there are massive opportunities for members to enter for these awards as they cover a massive range of sectors from Offices, to Retail, to Local Authority to Leisure and everything in between. In addition later this year there will be an app where people can log in and see where the facilities are located and you can plan your trip accordingly. Caught short in Lincoln, then go to the Bus Station as they have been awarded a National Award. Fancy a day at the seaside then head to Coppett Hall Beach in Pembrokeshire, another National Award Winner. Everyone at the Loo of the Year Awards is lovely, but the contact for me is Jane Kibble ([email protected]), and I am sure she can give a lot more information.”

Hello Everyone I hope you are all well and recovering from the festive season? If you are like me, you might have put the odd pound on! So, in true January spirit, I am eating a bit healthier and starting to get back into old exercise routines. I have to say, besides feeling the positive change as I fasten my jeans, I also feel my mood is much better. That got me thinking a little more about poor mental health and its impact on our wellbeing. Feeling lonely is something that all of us can experience at any point. Sometimes admitting we feel lonely can be hard, but it’s important to remember that many others experience feelings of loneliness too, and that this feeling can pass. Please don’t think you are alone. It can often feel easier to reach out to someone else who may be feeling lonely and there are plenty of simple things you can do that might help you and others. Some things cost next to nothing too – for example, ask someone to go for a walk, send them a text to see how they are doing, or invite them for a hot drink. Small actions really can make a big difference! Search ‘Every Mind Matters’ for more support and advice for ways to lift someone out of loneliness. It might help you feel less lonely too. Until next time, I wish you all the best.

Heart of Yorkshire Business and Tourism Forum WAKEFIELD COLLEGE Margaret Street Wakefield WF1 2DH

Thursday 16th March 2023 8am to 9.30am If you're a local and/or regional business interested in building a relationship with Wakefield, Castleford, or Selby Colleges come join us for our first Heart of Yorkshire Education Group's Business and Tourism Forum. Our forum has three key aims:

To provide you with information about the current Business and Tourism provision offered by our colleges along with a general understanding of what your next generation of employees are learning. This will then be followed up with an opportunity for you to speak to our staff and have a say on what you need from your future workforce, our learners, which will allow us to develop the skills and qualities you are looking for within each of our students.

To highlight how we can help you fulfil your CPD and upskilling needs including a training needs assessment of your business. This support, which funding may be available for depending on whether your business meets the relevant criteria, can be organised as bespoke courses for your business or in collaboration with other businesses allowing your employees to network whilst they train further building their skills.

Finally we offer time for you to network with other local and regional businesses whilst enjoying a free breakfast.

WE ARE WINNERS! At the Northern Digital Awards, hosted by Jenny Powell at the Royal Armouries, out of ten finalists for Best PPC Campaign, we took home the Silver Award. The win was for our PPC campaign with My Hair and Beauty, the judges remarked "We loved the expertise for this campaign that went beyond PPC and led the client to reprioritise their strategy and resources. They had great use of automation to drive the strategy and fantastic results, especially for the small budget." As our first win for a small, new digital agency, we're delighted to put Wakefield on the map and will be aiming for the Gold next year! (Nathan Armstrong)

OUR WAW AMBASSADORS

“The past 12 months of membership for Solupak have provided us with endless opportunities to put us on the map, throughout Wakefield and beyond. As a company that supplies businesses all over the UK, as well as worldwide, we underestimated the positive impact working with our local business community could have. Becoming part of the ambassador’s club was an easy decision as the return on investment has already been proven but also extended our commitment to be active and engage to benefit not just ourselves but our fellow members. As a full team the value of continuing and further extending our involvement in WAW was agreed and look forward to attending the many superb events on offer.” Alex Thompson, Managing Director of Solupak

Following on from their success at The Wakefield Business Awards “RV2 are delighted to become Ambassadors for We Are Wakefield. Claire has created a group of local businesses who share our ethic for trying keep services local and for doing great work for the people of Wakefield. The group is different from the traditional networking events that we have previously attended. This feels like a natural coming together of like-minded people from across all sectors, whether that be commercial, charitable, or cultural. Nothing is forced it just feels right, something we want to be a part of. We have no expectations of increasing our business, only that we build relationships within the district and hopefully help others along the way. We’re looking forward to seeing what we can achieve together. I hope we can contribute to assisting We Are Wakefield and the wider WAW community.” Tony Simmonds, Director of RV2 Power Ltd

Juice Personnel has been part of the Wakefield Business Community since 2003 and has worked with 100’s of different types of businesses both from supplier and customer perspectives but since Claire Sutherley joined We are Wakefield, I personally don’t think there has ever been any kind of business community like it. Juice has benefitted from its membership in more than a number of ways; we’ve met new clients, new suppliers, won awards, sponsored events and more importantly, developed some genuine relationships with other local businesses which we know will flourish over time and create more and more opportunities. Celebrating our 20th birthday this year, I really want Juice Personnel to be an Ambassador for We are Wakefield. I want our business to support others, support our local business community whilst strengthening our position in the local market too. When true business relationships are built on trust, mutual respect and people having a genuine passion for helping others, than amazing things can and will happen and I knew as soon as I heard of the ambassador scheme, that I wanted Juice Personnel to be a part of it. As a business, we are wholeheartedly looking forward to the next 12 months and what this WAW opportunity will lead to. Kelly Smith, Director

“Elis joined WAW to establish a presence within the local community, building supportive and constructive business relationships. Becoming a WAW Ambassador is a huge honour for Elis, and we aim to use this role to further engage with local Wakefield businesses, adding positive value to the Wakefield community by driving collaboration and support to WAW members.” Jonathan Parkinson, General Manager
