THE CASTLE OF THE DUKES OF SAVOY D6 Former residence of the Counts and Dukes of Savoy, the castle consists of a group of buildings constructed in the Middle Ages and up to the present day and is now the home of the Prefecture and the County Council. The Holy Chapel used to house the Holy Shroud (in Turin now). Guided Visits (except the Holy Chapel, closed until end of 2011). THE LARGE SET OF BELLS D6 Constructed in 1993 and installed in the Castle of the Dukes of Savoy, with its 70 bells, it is the largest in France and one of the 8 largest set of bells in the world. Concerts: 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month at 5.30 p.m. CHARLES DULLIN THEATRE F5 Built in the «Italian» style, (it is nicknamed «the little Scala») ; a magnificent stage curtain painted by Luigi Vacca and representing «Orpheus’s descent into the Underworld». It bears the name of Charles Dullin, a famous man of the theatre, of Savoy origin (1885-1949). THE OLD TOWN Constructed at the foot of the ducal castle, the ancient centre is made up of a dense and original urban fabric characterised by a network of alleyways, private Piedmont style mansions, trompe l’oeil designs... and has also been able to incorporate contemporary creations. • La Rue de Boigne E5 This street in a straight line, lined with Turin style porticos, was constructed thanks to the generosity of General de Boigne. • La Place Saint-Léger E6 Behind the coloured facades of this lively square, a network of alleyways makes it possible to walk between courtyards and mansions, giving the town its special physiognomy. • La Rue Basse Du Château E5 In this street dating from Mediaeval Times, one of the last overhead footbridges in the town is to be found. • La Rue Croix d’Or F6 For centuries, travellers arriving from Italy entered the town by this road: notice the wrought iron gates of the Castagnery mansion (n° 18) and the façade of the Marches and Bellegarde mansion (n° 19). • La PLace de l’Hôtel de Ville E5 The Town Hall, a symbol of the incorporation of Savoy into France,was built in 1860 on the same spot as the Antonins convent. A part of the square was rebuilt after the 1944 bombings which destroyed 1/5th of the town.

IL CASTELLO DEI DUCHI DI SAVOIA D6 Antica residenza dei Duchi di Savoia, il castello riunisce un insieme di edifici costruiti dal Medioevo a oggi, attualmente sede della Prefettura e della Provincia. La Santa Sindone (oggi a Torino) è rimasta durante oltre 125 anni a Chambéry, tra altro, nella Santa Cappella. Visite guidate (eccetto la Santa Cappella fino alla fine del 2011 per restauro). IL GRANDE CARILLON D6 Costruito nel 1993 ed istallato nel Castello dei Duchi di Savoia, con 70 campane, è il più grande della Francia e fa parte del cerchio ristretto degli 8 più grandi carillon del mondo. Concerti ogni 1° e 3 sabato del mese alle 17.30. IL TEATRO CHARLES DULLIN F5 Costruito sul modello dei teatri «all’italiana» (è soprannominato «la piccola Scala»), magnifico sipario dipinto da Luigi Vacca, che rappresenta «La discesa di Orfeo negli Inferi». Porta il nome di Charles Dullin, celebre uomo di teatro di origine savoiarda (1885-1949). LA CITTA’ VECCHIA Ripiegato ai piedi del Castello ducale, il centro storico offre un tessuto urbano denso ed originale caratterizzato da un dedalo di viali, di palazzi privati di ispirazione piemontese, di sfondi a trompe-l’oeil... e ha saputo, allo stesso tempo, aprirsi alla creazione contemporanea. • La Rue de Boigne E5 Quest’asse rettilineo, bordato di portici alla torinese, fu aperto grazie alle liberalità del Generale di Boigne. • La Place Saint-Léger E6 Dietro le facciate colorate di questo luogo animato, tutto un dedalo di viali permette di circolare da un cortile di un palazzo all’altro, dando alla città la sua fisionomia così particolare. • La Rue Basse Du Château E5 Questa strada, vestigia dell’epoca medioevale, conserva una delle ultime passarelle aeree della città. • La Rue Croix d’Or F6 Nel corso dei secoli i viaggiatori in provenienza dall’Italia penetrarono nella città attraverso questa strada: da notare le inferriate in ferro battuto del palazzo di Castagnery (n°18) e la facciata del palazzo dei Marches e di Bellegarde (n°19). • La PLace de l’Hôtel de Ville E5 Nell’area del convento degli Antoniani fu edificato nel 1860 l’Hôtel de Ville, simbolo dell’annessione alla Francia. Una parte della piazza è stata ricostruita dopo il bombardamento del 1944 che ha distrutto 1/5 della città.

EL CASTILLO DE LOS DUQUES DE SABOYA D6 Antigua residencia de los condes y duques de Saboya, el castillo reagrupa un conjunto de edificios edificados desde la Edad-Media hasta nuestros días y alberga hoy en día la prefectura y la diputación provincial. La Santa Capilla albergó el Santo Sudario (hoy en Turin). Visitas guiadas (excepto la Santa Capilla hasta el final de 2011). El GRAN CARILLÓN D6 Construido en 1993 e instalado en el Castillo de los duques de Saboya, con 70 campanas, es el más grande de Francia y forma parte del restringido círculo de los 8 carillones más grandes del mundo. Conciertos el primer y tercer sábado del mes a las 17 h 30. EL TEATRO CHARLES DULLIN F5 Construido sobre el modelo de los teatros «estilo italiano» ( se le llama «la pequeña scala») ; con un magnífico telón de boca pintado por Luigi Vacca y que representa «la bajada de Orfeo a los infiernos». Lleva el nombre de Charles Dulin, hombre famoso del teatro, nativo de Saboya (1885-1949). EL CASCO ANTIGUO Adosado al pie del Castillo ducal, el centro antiguo ofrece una estructura urbana densa y original que se caracteriza por un entramado de pasadizos, hoteles de inspiración piamontesa, y decoraciones de efecto (trampantojos), y ha sabido abrirse a la creación contemporánea. • La Rue de Boigne E5 Este eje rectilíneo, bordeado de pórticos de estilo turinés, fue taladrado gracias a las generosidades del Général de Boigne. • La Place Saint-Léger E6 Detrás de las fachadas coloreadas de este lugar tan animado, un entramado de calles permite circular desde las cortes a los hoteles, lo que proporciona a la ciudad su fisonomía tan especial. • La Rue Basse Du Château E5 Esta calle, que data de la época medieval, conserva una de las últimas pasarelas a cielo abierto de la ciudad. • La Rue Croix d’Or F6 Durante siglos, los viajeros que venían de Italia entraban a la ciudad por esta calle: fíjense en las rejas de hierro forjado del hotel de Castagnery (n°18) y de la fachada del hotel des Marches et de Bellegarde (n°19). • La PLace de l’Hôtel de Ville E5 (Plaza del Ayuntamiento) El Ayuntamiento, símbolo de la incorporacíon de Saboya a Francia, fue edificado en 1860 en el mismo emplazamiento que el convento de los Antoninos. Una parte de la plaza fue reconstruida tras el bombardeo de 1944 que destruyó una 1/5 parte de la ciudad.

The Churches CATHEDRAL ST FRANÇOIS DE SALES F6 Place Métropole [email protected] Constructed in the XVth century by the Franciscans, the church contains the largest collection of trompe l’oeil paintings in Europe (6 000 m2). Its treasury includes an ivory diptych from the XIIth century of Byzantine origin. Its romantic organ listed as an Historical Monument in 1988 was totally rebuilt in 2001. The facade was restored in 2006/2009. A copy of the Holy Shroud is exposed in the cathedral. Opening times: from Monday to Sunday from 8.30 to 12 and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. • Free organ recitals every Sunday from 3rd July until 11th September at 5.30 p.m., preceded by a guided visit at 5 p.m. *Guided visits all year round as part of the tour of the old town • Treasury open Saturdays from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. from 15th May to 15th September CHURCH OF NOTRE-DAME E4 Rue Saint Antoine [email protected] This church built in the XVIIth century in the Baroque style is all what remains of a very large Jesuit convent. Opening times: From Tuesdays to Saturdays, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. CHURCH OF LEMENC F1 Boulevard de Lémenc The Lemenc hill was the site of primitive occupation of the town. The pre-Romanesque rotunda was extended with a XV century crypt in which a tomb was placed. Opening times: Saturdays from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays from 9.30 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. Visits for groups by previous booking: Tel. 04 79 33 42 47.

Le Chiese CATTEDRALE ST FRANÇOIS DE SALES F6 Place Métropole - [email protected] La chiesa fu edificata nel XV secolo dai Francescani. Custodisce la più grande raccolta di pitture a trompe l’oeil d’Europa (6 000 m2). Il suo tesoro conserva un dittico in avorio del XII secolo di origine bizantina. Il suo organo romantico, classificato Monumento Storico nel 1988, è stato totalmente ricostruito nel 2001. La facciata è stata rinnovata nel 2006/2009. Una copia della Santa Sindone è esposta nella cattedrale. Apertura : Tutti i giorni, dalle 8.30 a mezzogiorno e dalle 2 alle 6. • Audizioni d’organo gratuite ogni domenica dal 3 luglio al 11 settembre alle 17.30, precedute da una visita guidata alle 17.00. • Visite guidate tutto l’anno nel programma delle visite della città vecchia. • Tesoro aperto il sabato dalle 15.00 alle17.00 dal 15 maggio al 15 settembre.

CHIESA NOTRE-DAME E4 Rue Saint Antoine [email protected] Del vasto convento dei Gesuiti rimane solo la chiesa Notre-Dame, costruita nel XVII secolo in stile barocco. Apertura: Dal martedi al sabato, dalle 15.00 alle 19.00. CHIESA DI LEMENC F1 Boulevard de Lémenc La collina di Lémenc è il sito di occupazione primitiva della città. La pianta circolare preromana si prolunga in una cripta del XV secolo nella quale è stata posta una sepoltura. Apertura: Sabato dalle 17.00 alle 18.00 e domenica dalle 9.30 alle 10.30. Visite di gruppo su prenotazione al 04 79 33 42 47.

Las Iglesias CATEDRAL ST FRANÇOIS DE SALES F6 Place Métropole [email protected] La iglesia fue edificada en el siglo XV por los Franciscanos. Resguarda el más amplio conjunto de pinturas de efecto (trampantojos) de Europa (6 000 m2). Su tesoro conserva un díptico de marfil del siglo XII de origen bizantina. Su órgano romántico clasificado monumento histórico en 1988 fue reconstruido completamente en 2001. La fachada fue renovada en 2006/2009. Una copia del Santo Sudario està expuesta en la catedral. Horarios de atención al cliente: Todos los dias, desde las 8h30 hasta las 12h, y desde las 14h hasta las 18h. • Audiciones de órgano gratuitas todos los Domingos desde el 3 de julio hasta el 11 de septiembre a las 17h30, precedida de una visita guiada a las 17h. • Visita guiada todo el año en el ámbito de las visitas del antiguo casco de la ciudad. • Tesoro abierto el sábado de las 15h a las 17h del 15 de mayo hasta el 15 de septiembre. IGLESIA NOTRE-DAME E4 Rue Saint Antoine [email protected] Del amplio convento de los jesuitas tan sólo queda la iglesia Notre-Dame construida en el siglo XVII de estilo barroco. Apertura: De martes hasta sabado, de las 15h hasta las 19h. IGLESIA DE LEMENC F1 Boulevard de Lémenc La colina de Lémenc era el sitio de ocupación primitiva de la ciudad. La rotonda pre-romana de la iglesia fue prolongada por una cripta del siglo XV en la que fue colocada una sepultura. Horarios de apertura: Sábado de 17 h a 18 h y domingo de 9 h 30 a 10 h 30. Statues THE FOUNTAIN OF THE ELEPHANTS F5 Constructed in 1838 by the sculptor Sappey as a homage to General de Boigne (1751-1830) who after having gained glory and made his fortune in India became a great benefactor for Chambéry, his birth place. In particular, he ordered the construction of “la rue de Boigne” bordered by Turin style porticos. The four elephants are a reminder of the military campaigns led by the General in India. His statue dominates the monument. THE STATUE OF THE DE MAISTRE BROTHERS D6 Created in 1899 by the sculptor Dubois to the memory of Joseph and Xavier de Maistre, a philosopher and a writer, both born in Chambéry. Castello e centro storico in italiano in agosto Tutti i giorni, tranne il lunedi, alle ore 15. Appuntamento piazza del Castello, all’entrata des Castello. Capitale di uno stato che si estendeva da ogni lato delle Alpi, Chambéry conserva tracce di questo passato comune col Piemonte. Ne testimoniano il castello, antica residenza dei Principi di Savoia, e i palazzi delle famiglie al servizio del governo. Anche la presenza dell’acqua ha lasciato la sua impronta, dando alla città la sua fisionomia così particolare. Oggi, la valorizzazione di questo patrimonio viene accompagnato da creazioni contemporanee. (*)
