Godiva was very religious and had her jewellery converted into religious images and crosses. She was known for her generous gifts to abbeys and churches, and, with her husband, paid for churches and religious houses in Leominster, Worcester, Evesham, Burton-on-Trent, Hereford, Stowe and Chester. The clock itself originated in Coventry's old Market Hall Clock Tower. The term comes from the legendary Tom who was the one person who peeked when Lady Godiva rode her horse naked through the streets of Coventry to protest taxes. Being a peeping tom is treated as a crime based on sexual deviancy, with various names in different states.

TRANSPORT MUSEUM: Coventry Transport Museum opened in 1980, after it became clear that the road transport collection was outgrowing the space it occupied in the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. The Museum’s current collection of vehicles is acknowledged as being one of the finest in the world, and the largest in public ownership. The first exhibits were acquired in 1937 when H.W. 'Sammy' Bartlett gifted the City of Coventry his own private collection of cycles. The first motor cars were added to the collection in 1952, and the collection has continued to grow ever since. The first major public exhibitions began in 1960 with the official opening of the Herbert Art Gallery and Museum. As the transport collection grew, the vehicles were housed in a number of local sites, eventually settling at their present location in 1980. The Museum’s collection consists of motor cars, commercial vehicles, cycles and motorcycles. In addition, extensive collections of automobilia, books, photographs and a wealth of other archive material is held and conserved at the Coventry Archives at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. Most of the collection exists through the outstanding generosity of individual donors.

CITY OF CULTURE: The year 2021/2022 saw the UK City of Culture go to Coventry. Derry got it a number of years ago. This major industrial centre has had much change like Waterford but is endeavouring to bounce back

Coventry UK City of Culture 2021 is a designation given to the city of Coventry, England, between 2021 and 2025 by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS). The designation means that Coventry gains access to funding to improve its infrastructure and arts facilities, and will host a series of events celebrating local culture. Coventry was selected in 2017 to become the third UK City of Culture since the initiative began in 2013

COVENTRY CATHEDRAL: The original St Michael's Cathedral in Coventry was built between the late 14th century and early 15th century. It now stands ruined, bombed almost to destruction during the massive attack on the city by German bombers on the night of November 14th, 1940

The Cathedral Church of Saint Michael, commonly known as Coventry Cathedral, is the seat of the Bishop of Coventry and the Diocese of Coventry within the Church of England. The cathedral is located in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The current bishop is Christopher Cocksworth and the current dean is John Witcombe. The city has had three cathedrals. The first was St Mary's, a monastic building, from 1102-1539, of which only a few ruins remain. The second was St Michael's, a 14thcentury Gothic church designated as a cathedral in 1918, which remains a ruined shell after its bombing during the Second World War. The third is the new St Michael's Cathedral, built immediately adjacent after the destruction of the former, consecrated in 1962.

INTERESTING FACT OF COVENTRY: The city was the birthplace of jet pioneer Sir Frank Whittle, the poet Philip Larkin and the pop impresario Pete Waterman. Coventry once had the only unfortified royal palace outside London. The surviving gatehouse is the oldest building in Britain to be used as a register office.

Although there are various theories of the origin of the name, the most widely accepted is that it was derived from Cofa, tree; derived from a Saxon landowner called Cofa, and a tree which might have marked either the centre or the boundary of the settlement.

HERBERT ART GALLERY: The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum (generally known simply as 'The Herbert') is Coventry's major museum and art gallery, focussed on heritage, science, and the creative arts. The museum is named for Sir Alfred Herbert, a wealthy industrialist and philanthropist whose generosity enabled the museum to be built The Second World War called a halt to building work, and it was not until 1954 that Sir Alfred was able to lay the foundation stone of the new building. Sadly he did not live to see the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum opened by Lady Herbert in 1960. T
