THE IMPACT

OF YO U R P H IL ANT H RO PY

2022 an exceptional year We are pleased to share our 2022 Impact Report, which highlights several exciting new developments at White Plains Hospital that were made possible in part through your support. In the following pages, you will learn about the continued growth of our specialized programs and services, allowing more patients than ever access to the advanced care they need, close to home.

Your generosity helps us implement new technologies, expand our services, offer innovative programs, recruit the most talented medical professionals and continue to invest in the education of our staff. Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our Hospital. Together, we are changing lives.

With gratitude,

Susan Fox President & CEO White Plains Hospital

Jonathan Spitalny Chairman, White Plains Hospital Foundation Board

Bill Null Chairman, White Plains Hospital Board of Directors

HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE YEAR •

EARNED a Five-Star Quality Rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the highest rating awarded, making us the only Hospital in Westchester and 1 of 8 in New York to receive this distinction.

BROADENED our complex care capabilities, with the first WATCHMAN procedure to treat Atrial Fibrillation and first cochlear implant procedure for patients with hearing loss.

EXPANDED our Intensive Care Unit to support the growing number of patients with the most acute health needs.

UNVEILED a new Hybrid Operating Room to support our Neurointerventional Program.

EXCEEDED national outcomes for every openheart cardiac surgery in the first year of our program with a 100% 30-day survival rate.

ONE YEAR - 100,000 VISITS

Our Center for Advanced Medicine and Surgery (CAMS) brings together state-of-the-art operating rooms, specialty procedure rooms and endoscopy suites, advanced imaging, hyperbaric medicine and specialty physician offices all under one roof. The building connects our campus through a pedestrian bridge and provides convenient access to outpatient services.

BEAUTIFYING OUR CAMPUS Outside of CAMS, the Della Cava Family Garden was dedicated through a generous gift from Ralph and Geralyn Della Cava in honor of their parents.

ENHANCED COMPLEX CARE CAPABILITIES

ADDING NEW ENT CAPABILITIES Dr. Brian Nicholas, Director of Hearing and Balance, performed the first cochlear implant at White Plains Hospital in 2022. The procedure, which is safe for both children and adults, offers a life-changing option for patients with hearing loss when hearing aids are no longer beneficial.

The new Hybrid Operating Room, which opened in June 2022, was made possible thanks to the generous support of Joanne and Manny Chirico. This state-of-the-art suite offers biplane angiography, which enables our Neurointerventional team to perform complex procedures, including thrombectomies – or the manual removal of blood clots from the brain – as well as treat other complex neurological conditions, such as arteriovenous malformations, brain aneurysms, fistulas, and other disorders. ENHANCED COMPLEX CARE CAPABILITIES

WORLD-CLASS CARDIAC CARE Since its launch, the Montefiore Einstein Cardiac Surgery Program at White Plains Hospital, led by Dr. Robert Michler and Dr. William Jakobleff, Jr., has achieved exceptional patient outcomes, including a 100% 30-DAY SURVIVAL RATE, sending every patient operated on home to their loved ones, far exceeding national quality and performance metrics. In addition, patients have been able to return home far sooner than the national average as a result of the enhanced mobility and early ambulation program. The Hospital opened a new, 12-BED ICU, leveraging technology and innovative design to allow the most medically vulnerable patients to receive the life-saving care they need in a more advanced setting, including those recovering from cardiac surgery. Each room in the new ICU is equipped with negative pressure for infection control, in-room lifts for improved physical therapy capabilities, a private bathroom and other amenities. The Hospital’s investment in state-of-the-art equipment streamlines patient care and promotes accelerated recovery, underscoring its position as the leading provider of care for patients with complex needs in the region.

Drs. Luigi Di Biase and Daniel Wang, and team performing first WATCHMAN procedure

The Kleinman A-Fib Center, made possible thanks to a cornerstone pledge from Wendy and Scott Kleinman, provides patients with life-saving treatment for Atrial Fibrillation. In August 2022, Dr. Daniel Wang, Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology, and Montefiore’s Dr. Luigi Di Biase performed White Plains Hospital’s first WATCHMAN procedure, a revolutionary operation that reduces stroke risk and eliminates the need for blood thinners in patients with A-Fib. The Kleinman A-Fib Center will continue to grow our cardiac capabilities with the planned construction of a third Cardiac Catheterization Lab, allowing us to offer these much-needed services to even more patients.

The new space will feature the latest technological capabilities including state-of-the-art mapping systems, screens, and recording devices providing the community with a world-class center that is a destination for advanced cardiac care.

CONNECTING PATIENTS TO CANCER CARE

White Plains Hospital is committed to providing patients with the most innovative treatment options, including leading-edge clinical trials. In addition to novel therapies, patients have access to the Hospital’s state-of-the-art PET/MRI, one of just 115 scanners of its kind in the world, offering imaging that combines the specific details of an MRI with the metabolic information of a PET scan for the most precise diagnosis and treatment. White Plains Hospital’s Center for Cancer Care employs a patient navigator to help breast cancer patients address barriers to care. Patient navigators ensure that patients have a supportive clinical touchpoint throughout the course of their treatment, from diagnosis to survivorship or palliative care, and help connect them to resources beyond the Hospital. Thanks to a generous gift from Board Member Brian Ruder and his wife, Ginny, the center has added a second navigator dedicated to supporting patients with colorectal cancer.

COMPREHENSIVE PALLIATIVE CARE

Our Palliative Medicine team works with our clinical teams providing specialty level palliative care for patients living with serious illness. They provide practical advice to help patients and families navigate through treatment, as well as day-to-day to support by talking with them about how their illness and its treatments impact their lives. They are that extra layer of support providing comprehensive care that focuses on improving quality of life and reducing suffering at any stage of illness, regardless of diagnosis, prognosis or age. Barbara M. Sirna’s significant support of this important program has made a far-reaching impact by helping to grow the Palliative Medicine Team and expand end-of-life care training to all medical professionals. By meeting the demand of our community and providing our staff with internationally recognized education, our patients receive dignified, compassionate care when they need it most.
