R. THOMAS GAGLARDI OWNER AND GOVERNOR R. Thomas (Tom) Gaglardi is the owner and governor of the Dallas Stars Hockey Club and the president of Northland Properties Corporation, the largest family-owned hospitality company in Canada with its head offices located in Vancouver, B.C. He was officially introduced as the sixth owner in franchise history on November 21, 2011. Since acquiring the club, Gaglardi has revitalized hockey in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, overhauling the team’s front office by hiring veteran administrator Jim Lites to serve as president and installing one of the most respected hockey minds in Jim Nill as general manager. He also spearheaded the overhaul of the team’s logo and uniform, forging a new identity for the club to fit his vision. Under his watch, industry insiders have consistently identified the Stars as a team “on the rise” for both the business and hockey operations side of the organization. During the 2014-15 season, Gaglardi purchased the Texas Stars of the American Hockey League (AHL) and acquired the operating rights to H-E-B Center at Cedar Park in Cedar Park, Texas. The move reinforced his commitment to sustaining and growing the sport of hockey in the state of Texas and creating a seamless organizational process to develop and train NHL-caliber players, coaches and front office staff. A passionate and knowledgeable leader who is deeply involved in all aspects of the family’s business, Gaglardi began his career in the hospitality industry at age 13 as a busboy and has worked in virtually every area of his business since that time. He spent considerable time in construction, hotel and restaurant operations, real estate development and finance. At age 23, he was promoted to president of the Sandman Hotel Group, and at 26 he became president of Northland Properties Corporation, the Gaglardi family’s umbrella company.

Under his direction, Northland has grown to be the largest familyowned hospitality company in Canada including a large portfolio of hotels with the Sandman Hotel Group and the Sutton Place Hotels & Resorts, several restaurant chains including Denny’s Restaurants of Canada, Moxie’s Grill & Bar, Chop Steakhouse & Bar and Shark Club Bar & Grill. In 2009, Gaglardi began expanding his brand of hospitality to the United Kingdom and more recently began operating in the United States, with the first Moxie’s Grill & Bar opening in Dallas in November of 2016, and the first Sandman Hotel opening in Plano in February of 2019. The family also owns and operates a large real estate portfolio and the world renowned Revelstoke Mountain Resort. In addition to his role with the Stars, Gaglardi is a co-owner of the Kamloops Blazers Hockey Club of the Western Hockey League and serves as its governor. An active member of the community, Gaglardi founded the Sandman Harvest Foundation, which has raised over $1 million for disadvantaged and medically challenged children living in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. He also serves as trustee for the PA and JM Gaglardi Senior Citizens Society, a non-profit society providing housing for seniors in Kamloops, B. C. and serves on the board of St. George’s School in Vancouver. He founded the Josh Dyck Foundation to assist Josh with his recovery from an auto accident in October 2006, which left him paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair. Gaglardi and his wife Brittney have three sons, Charlie, Bennett and Wilson, all of whom play competitive hockey. In addition to his own participation on his hockey team, Gaglardi enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family at their cottage on the shores of Kamloops Lake near Savona, B.C.

YOUTH ENGAGEMENT 54

HONORING MILITARY FAMILIES

ASSISTING THOSE IN NEED

Thanks to the generous support of fans, players’ families, and staff, the Texas Stars Foundation has distributed more than 1 million during the 2010-2022 seasons in cash donations and gifts in-kind. During the 2021-2022 season, the foundation distributed more than $35,000 in grants and cash gifts to local nonprofit organizations. The foundation has three pillars of giving where it focuses on philanthropic efforts: youth engagement, honoring military families, and assisting those in need.

FUNDRAISING EFFORTS 50/50 RAFFLE: At every Texas Stars home game, the foundation will be hosting a 50/50 charitable raffle. One- half

of the proceeds will be given to the randomly selected raffle ticket winner, and one-half will be donated to The Texas Stars Foundation. Proceeds from this fundraiser support the Texas Stars Grant Program.

SPECIALTY JERSEY AUCTIONS: Each season the Texas Stars Foundation hosts specialty jersey auctions to raise money for the Foundation Grants Program. This season’s custom jerseys include two military appreciation jerseys, a Star Wars jersey, a pink jersey for Pink in the Rink weekend, and new for the 2019-2020 season, a lavender jersey to honor Hockey Fights Cancer night . These jerseys are game-worn by Texas Stars players and then auctioned off that night. Each jersey auction winner has the chance to meet the player who wore the jersey, get an autograph and photo with the player. CHUCK-A-PUCK: Through the past ten seasons, fans have donated more than $180,000 through the Texas Stars Foundation spotlight fundraiser. Foam pucks are sold to fans during select games by local organizations, benefiting both the group and the foundation. Fans then throw their pucks onto the ice. The closest puck to the center of the target wins a prize. If you have an organization interested in participating please contact the Texas Stars Foundation. IN-GAME FUNDRAISERS: Throughout the season the Texas Stars Foundation hosts fundraisers to benefit the foundation, such as mystery pucks, holiday ornament sales, and supply drives. Stop by our table for more information!

COMMUNITY APPEARANCES

Every season, Texas Stars players make numerous appearances throughout the community. Players visit local hospitals, schools, and events for non-profits. Elementary schools have the opportunity to bring hockey to the classroom with the new Floor Hockey program presented by Texas Children’s Hospital. Each appearance is an opportunity for the players to meet fans, share their love of hockey, and brighten someone else’s day.

2021-22 SPECIALTY WEEKEND HIGHLIGHTS During the military appreciation weekend, more than 4,000 tickets were donated to military families in the Central Texas area. Players wore custom military themed jerseys during the games. These jerseys were part of a silent auctions raising more than $44,000 benefiting the Texas Stars Foundation.

MILITARY APPRECIATION:

The Texas Stars Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization dedicated to enhancing the community through various forms of support including financial contributions, gifts in-kind and volunteerism. Formed in the summer of 2010, the Texas Stars Foundation is the official charity of the Texas Stars Hockey Club. The foundation strives to utilize the talents and resources of the Texas Stars players, families, staff and ownership to enrich the greater Central Texas area and military children throughout the United States.
