VIRTUS PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN AWARENESS SESSION in English Thursday, July 8, 2010, 6:30 pm - 9:30 p.m., Parish Hall Saturday, July 10, 2010, 9:30 a.m–12:30 pm, Parish Hall This session is open to all adult members of the parish community, school, parish staff, and volunteers of all ministries. The presentation will address what child sexual abuse is, offer detailed steps on how to protect children and youth from abuse, and provide the opportunity for continued education through the Virtus online website. This workshop is mandated by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles for all staff and volunteers in our Catholic schools, religious education programs and ministries who work with and around children and youth. No children under 18 years of age will be allowed into the session, and participants must arrive on time. You may select either of two sessions to attend. Preregistration for a session is required to assure that ample workbooks and handouts are available to those in attendance. Page Four Queridos Amigos, Soy su nuevo pastor, Padre Edwin C. Duyshart. Es un honor para mí ser su sacerdote y hermano en Cristo aquí in la iglesia de San Ignacio de Loyola. ¿Quien soy yo? En breve... nací en la ciudad de Nueva York en 1958 de padres inmigrantes Holandeses. Antes de cumplir un año de edad nos venimos a vivir a Los Angeles. Después de graduar de Arcadia High School en 1976 entre al Colegio seminarista de St. John in continúe en el seminario. Me ordene como sacerdote en 1984 y durante mis años de servicio e estado en parroquias de la de Los Angeles. Los últimos 12 años fui pastor de la Iglesia Arquidiócesis de St. Elizabeth of Hungry en Altadena. Ahora anticipo estar con ustedes aquí en San Ignacio de Loyola (es my santo patrón). Juntos nos conoceremos y creceremos en fe, esperanza y amor. Espero que la próxima celebración para la fiesta del Día de San Ignacio y disfrutar de las bendiciones de comunidad. Este no es un tiempo fácil para cualquiera de nosotros. Tuvieron que decir adiós al Padre Arturo quien a estado con ustedes por tantos años. Who am I? In short… I was born to Dutch immigrants in Buffalo, N.Y., in 1958 and before I was one year old the family had relocated to Los Angeles. After graduating from Arcadia High School in 1976 I went to St. John’s Seminary College and then I continued at St. John’s Seminary. I was ordained in 1984 and throughout my years of priestly service I have been in parishes of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. For the last 12 years I have been a pastor at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Altadena. I now look forward to being here with you at St. Ignatius of Loyola (who is my patron saint!). Together we will get to know each other and grow together in faith, hope and love. I hope that the upcoming celebration for the feast of St. Ignatius will be a great time of for us all to come together and enjoy the blessings of community. This is not an easy time for any of us. You had to say farewell to Fr. Arturo who has been with you for so many years. Having left my parish I know how it hurts as a departing pastor. I will pray for you and I ask you to pray for me.
