CARSON TAHOE HEALTH

YOU'RE A TREAT

CEO MESSAGE Pg. 2

HR UPDATES Pg. 4-5

PROVIDER SPOTLIGHT

Pg. 7

A Message from President & CEO, Michelle Joy How many times have you heard - “the one constant in healthcare is change.” Probably too many times to count, which means it is often ignored. I, too, when I hear this, often tune this statement out. It is true though, how we diagnose and treat patients is constantly evolving; sites of care are shifting from inpatient to outpatient; and even from face-to-face to virtual. CTH is a product of that constant change. We are very different today than we were just a few years ago. I bring this up because change is hard, no matter what your role is at CTH, you are constantly impacted by change whether that is in processes, policies, leaders, co-workers, physicians, supply shortages, new technology…. the list goes on and on. We can all find ourselves feeling nostalgic for the “way it used to be”, but it is important to remember that change is essential to being able to continue to achieve our mission. The more complex the change, the harder it usually is. If anyone remembers our EPIC go-live in October 2020, it was not perfect on day one and for many, still not perfect today, but it is a lot better than the “way it used to be.” The same will be true as we move to Infor on April 30. The upcoming transition to Infor presents a great opportunity for us to improve, but it won’t be seamless. Just like EPIC, we can expect some bumps in the road as we become acquainted with the new system. Supplies we expected may not have been ordered correctly, clocking in or out for our shift may not work as planned, and PTO requests may get lost. Though it may be frustrating, let’s remember to show grace to ourselves and each other during this transition. Our team members in Human Resources, Finance, and Supply Chain have dedicated countless hours over the last year to ensure a successful transition. It will not be perfect, we are not perfect, but a little grace will go a long way. Speaking of change, we continue to build our Culture of Safety change team that I mentioned during our last employee forums. Our list of Safety Champions continues to grow… Kapinga Brown, Kate Kauble, Scott McFadden, Katrina Joy, Katie Hurst, Dr. Dave Baker, Joe Kanter, Alison Rogers, Kitty McKay, Lisa Thayer, Stephanie Trettenero, Michelle Miller, Julie Duns, Michelle Joy, Jeremy Fisicaro, Janelle Hoover, Maria Freed, Dr. Kent Gabriel, Brandon Neal, Scott Mattes, Brooke Belanger, Aaron Brooks, Terry Long, Brittney Allen, Francisco Zuniga, Heather Wickware, Jessica Trivitt, Alysha Chiasson. We are continuing to look for more to make sure we have members from every unit, department, and service line. If you are interested, please let me, Kapinga Brown, or your leader know. The next round of Employee Forums are at the end of the month. We’ll review our scorecard performance for the first quarter, share results from our recent employee engagement survey, de-brief on the Infor implementation, provide a Culture of Safety update and anything else you would like to talk about. I look forward to seeing you at the upcoming employee forums. March definitely came in a like a lion and I am not sure is exactly leaving like a lamb, but there is definitely less snow! So, a big shout out to all of you for continuing to show up for each other and our community. You are making a difference every day by living our values of dignity and respect for all. 2

Infor Go Live is April 30! You may (or may not) have heard the name Infor circulating the organization and wondered what it is or what it will do. Currently, CTH has many different systems that perform different tasks for us such as payroll, requesting time off, clocking in & out, ordering supplies, hiring new employees, and all that good stuff! With Infor, all of those tasks and programs will be under one, cohesive umbrella. More information to come, so stay tuned!

We love it when our caregivers return to us and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome them back with open arms. Here’s what a few of them had to say about their return to CTH: CAREGIVER LENA SNOW “I returned to CTH for a couple of reasons: 1.) It’s close to home for me and 2.) This hospital is just a better hospital all around. I feel that people here really care about the work they do. I can’t explain why CTH feels like home, but it just does. Maybe it’s because people are more friendly in the hall when you pass them. My coworkers actually do their job. I don’t know, but here I am after a two year hiatus. I am currently back in the Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician. I am very happy to be back!”

CAREGIVER MIRANDA GLAHN - “I work as a receptionist at the Plastics and Hands Surgical Clinic. I previously worked at CTH as a few different roles for almost two years. I came back to CTH because of the support and appreciation they have for their employees. No matter what you do for CTH, you are respected and supported. I also cherish the way CTH gives back to the community and allows the employee’s to be a big part in that, especially through the employee giving that is pulled right from your paycheck. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming and that helps to make it really feel like a home away from home. I have worked at four of the facilities now and there has not been one person who was not pleasant to interact with. I am so honored and proud to tell people that I work for CTH.”

Thanks for sharing with us and welcome back!

Miranda Glahn

Employee Engagement Survey Prompt: “I love my job because...” “I feel like I am valued here. It’s nice to see my hard work paying off with the work I do and seeing the things I put in place working.”

“I can trust my coworkers and feel comfortable asking for help when needed.”

“I can share my passion with others, hone my skills, and continuously grow as a professional.”

Managing Change “Change is a constant. But sometimes, especially when it comes to work, change can be stressful, complicated, uncomfortable, even a little bit scary. It’s important to remember that as we go through workplace change, we can (and should) take an active role in supporting our mental health. Taking the time for self-care amidst a transition period is incredibly important.” Many of our caregivers have been working tirelessly the last six months in transitioning into a brand new system with the introduction to Infor. This means they have been learning brand new programs, taking on new tasks, training their teams and themselves...and it’s been a lot! That’s why it’s important to be extra-easy on ourselves and on others right now as we embrace these changes. With this new system and new tech, we’re really setting ourselves up for success into the future and investing in you, our caregivers. As we head into a new season of exciting change, remember there are resources out there for you if you’re feeling stressed and overwhelmed. Take advantage of the Calm app where you can find meditation guides, music, soundscapes, and more! Check out these 5 Tips for Supporting Mental Health During Workplace Change.

MATTERS OF THE HEART CARDIOLOGY UPDATES We are now performing Cardiac MRIs, as of the end of March! Cardiac MRI is one of the most advanced imaging tests used to obtain detailed images of the heart. We are proud to offer these services to our community and the cardiologists are very excited too. These studies will be performed in an outpatient setting only on our newest 1.5T MRI scanner located at Eagle Medical Center. The photos to the left are some images of the heart and our NEW scanner! We also got a new DEXA (bone density) scanner for the Minden location, which will have the capabilities to also offer TBS (Trabecular Bone Score). Using DEXA along with TBS provides the assessment of both bone density and bone structure aspects in one single examination. This technology will provide a more thorough evaluation for improved patient care. Woohoo!
