PRESIDENT’S

M E S S A G E Denis Barry, Board President [email protected] Dear Fellow Members: The time has changed, the evenings are getting longer and the smell of Spring is in the air. The course, for the most part, is in good condition despite the excessive rainfall these past weeks. The wet areas, particularly on number seven and eight will dissipate and we anticipate the course will be in great condition when the expected sunshine dries everything up. Our superintendent, Jeff Dumont and his staff have done an excellent job maintaining the course during these arduous times and the closures and “cart path only” decisions certainly helped to avoid any damage. We believe that the course will be in excellent shape for the upcoming Spring MemberMember on April 22 to the 23rd. The demolition at Oscars/the pool is almost completed and we are excited for the upcoming capital improvements. This past week we received the construction permit for Oscar’s and we hope that the county’s promise of April 7 for the issuance of the patio permits will be met. This is crucial to our General Contractor’s timeline for the overall project to be completed by September. We will continue to provide updates on the frequency basis to keep you apprised of the progress of the capital undertakings. The temporary set up for Oscar’s in the golf cart staging area seem to be working well and members are fully utilizing it, not just on the turn and after golf but also when the weather permits to sit outside and enjoy food and beverages. Membership interest in the club has again increased after a lull in the early March period. The golf waiting list, at the time of writing, is 16 despite some attrition in the past months. It is critical to keep up with your referrals to maintain our membership for the long-term. If you have a friend or family member who has some interest, please let Tyler Busey know and she will send a formal invitation for a tour of the club or an exploratory game of golf. This is the formula that has worked well for Century Golf Partners for many years. In addition to the referral program, the Ambassador initiative has proven to be very successful in integrating new members and introducing them to new friends at the club. The Ambassador Committee is alive and well and we would like to thank those participating for their time and efforts in this important role. This month we will be losing our Ambassador Committee chairman, Debbie Moats. Debbie and her husband Tracy are moving to San Antonio, Texas to begin a new chapter of their lives following Tracy’s retirement. We wish them well and we thank Debbie for her work and accomplishments with the Ambassador Committee and of course her 27 years of membership at Los Posas. We will miss you Debbie! Pickleball continues to increase in popularity not alone at Las Posas Country Club but throughout the county. We have 4 Pickleball courts and usage has increased exponentially these past months. Pickleballers are a friendly group and are very accommodating to rookies, middle-of-the-road or experienced players. On Thursday, April 6 at 5:00PM, tennis staff will host a Pickleball Happy Hour. Bring your paddle and play the timed round-robin and meet fellow members. You can also just come for the happy hour and make new friends. I would like to take this opportunity to wish all members and their families a safe and happy Easter. I will see you all at the Club. Denis Barry Club President

General Manager’s

MESSAGE

Todd Keefer, General Manager [email protected] Las Posas Members, I think everyone is excited to see the sun and the prospects of Spring! We have experienced nearly 20” of rainfall this year, and while the turf and plants have enjoyed it, we all seem ready to catch up on our outdoor fun! A quick shout-out to Jeff Dumont and his agronomic team for repeatedly putting the course back together after each rain event and for squeezing in the greens aerification in between the rain drops. This process is so important to the health of our turf, and we all appreciate Jeff doing everything he can to speed up the recovery. The past few weeks have been fun filled with all the St. Patrick’s events like the Irish Whisky Tasting and St. Patrick’s dinner. The Chili cookoff was a new event we added to the calendar and are excited to make this an annual celebration of our amazing cooks within our membership. Our Winners: First place, Justin Sickle. Second place, Chad Angle. Third place, The Silverman family.

The Killer Dueling Pianos Saturday, June 3 6:00PM - 9:00PM Tickets include complete dinner buffet and show admission. $65++

April brings the Easter bunny and our annual Easter Buffet. We look forward to being part of this great family tradition with nearly 700 of you celebrating here at the Club with us. We also added another new event this year, The Adult Easter Bunny Party. This will take place on Saturday April 8 and includes an adult version of an “egg hunt” with plenty of treats for all the attending adults! We have nearly 100 participating in this newest tradition and can’t wait to see everyone there! Hopefully you are receiving and reading our Saturday updates on our construction project. The weather continues to challenge our timeline although the 10-day forecast looks favorable for the work we have planned. The demo phase of Oscars grille and pool areas is completed and we are into the surveying and rough grade phase. As soon as that is completed, we will begin the footings for Oscars and begin the demo of the patio areas behind the clubhouse! Lots of work to go and we are excited to see these improvements to Las Posas!

Trivia Night Thursday, June 8 6:00PM - 8:00PM Play in teams of 2 to (MAX of) 8 players. Please reserve with your team!

Have a fantastic Easter with your families and Thank You for Being Members of Las Posas Country Club! Todd

April Meeting Day April 4, 2023

Tricia McClain, LPWGA VP/Tournament Chair [email protected] In like a lion, out like a lamb. Definitely got the lion; still waiting on the lamb. It does look like the rain is done for a bit though, so good news for our golf game and great news for the condition of the course. Emerald green, but still a little soggy; that should pass in a day or two. Hopefully by now everyone is aware that our Club Championship is scheduled for April. The Championship flight will play 3 days on April 21, 27 & 28. All other flights will play on April 27 & 28. Sign up in the locker room. Our March meeting day went off without a hitch and we played a fun Chapman format. Switching balls after the tee shot and then playing alternate shot to the hole. Took a little getting used to, but fun times were had by all. Congratulations to the winners! 1st place: T. McClain, M. Kitka, S. Coleman, K. Smith 2nd place: C. Beach, D. McCrossen, J. Yoshimoto, V. Spring Aerification March 29, 2023

Jeff Dumont, Golf Course Superintendent [email protected] Thank you all again for your patience during the golf course closure and healing of aerification! Spring aerification is the most important of our two aerifications because after a cold/wet winter with not a lot of sun, the greens tend to get thin on walkup areas and areas that don’t get much morning sun. Green aerification went extremely smooth once again this year. It usually takes us a while to find our groove, but once we do, we are off to the races! By the time you are reading this, the greens should be well on their way to full recovery. We still have to topdress our fairways, but we will do that throughout the week, trying to accomplish 1 hole per day. This year, we took extra steps with aerification that will ultimately continue to improve our playing surfaces! With spring here and Easter right around the corner, we will plant some flowers around the front entrance. It’s also the right time of year to apply your first application of pre-emerge herbicide. If you do not want to battle weeds this summer, now is the time to weed and feed your lawn! This is our plan, wall to wall pre-emerge herbicide to the golf course. We also plan on applying our first application of the year of Kerb. Kerb is a warm season herbicide that takes out unwanted cool season grasses. This herbicide has tremendously helped our fairways over the last two years of using this product. Our Kikuyu stand continues to get stronger every year! I look forward to the course fully recovering this month and seeing you all around the club!

Our staff has worked very hard in keeping our courts playable during this unprecedented rainy season. In celebration of Spring, we are hosting a Pickleball Happy Hour on April 6 from 5pm to 8pm. This will take place on the upper courts featuring an instruction court and 6 rotating play courts. Food and drinks will be available so be sure to reach out to Sharon to RSVP. A Club Within A Club Wine Club March 2023 Wine of the Month Tyler Winery Chardonnay Santa Barbara County, 2021 The Santa Barbara County Chardonnay is composed of grapes from the Bien Nacido, Dierberg, La Rinconada, and Sanford & Benedict vineyards. Aromatically the wine has notes of flint, white chalk, with a combination of stone and citrus fruits and a hint of florality. On the palate, the wine is extremely mineral-driven with notes of white pepper and green apples.

Penner-Ash Wine Cellars Syrah Oregon, 2019 The 2019 growing season started cool with small amounts of rain followed by warmer than average summer temperatures. As harvest approached, cooler fall temperatures allowed them to capture ripeness and flavor intensity in the grapes. Aromas of chocolate covered cherries, tobacco, and spiced oak. Blueberry sweetness is peppered with fine grain tannin creating dense layers and a savory finish.

“Prayer Pose” is typically used in combination of other poses and often as a beginning or an end. It’s a meditative pose that allows for introspection and contemplation. Always take a yoga breath before moving into another form, and a yoga breath to close your sequence. Although simple in appearance, don’t take this pose for granted! Yoga is a time-spent activity. The mastery of Yoga is achieved through study and focus, and it is highly suggested that the eight disciplines of Yoga be studied with a teacher. Enjoy the effort as much as the results of better flexibility, increased strength and stamina, and many other health and wellness benefits. Namaste’ Written by: Lance King
