SIXTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME  July 17, 2016 WATCH YOUR POSTURE Our posture is often a tip-off to our hospitality and reverence for the Lord. Note the actions of Abraham as he greeted the Lord in the presence of three men who appeared near his tent. He ran from the entrance of the tent to greet them. He bowed to the ground as he met them. He and Sarah, his wife, hastened to prepare a meal and bring food and water to their guests. In the Gospel story, Jesus’ friend Mary sat at his feet in order to listen to him speak. How do we welcome and reverence the Lord? What do our actions show? Do we remember the Lord’s presence in the Blessed Sacrament? How do we welcome the Lord in the scripture readings? How do we acknowledge his presence in our brothers and sisters, both at Mass and afterwards? Whether we kneel, stand, or sit in the Lord’s presence, may our hearts and minds always be attuned to him. Dear Parishioners, We welcome Father Reddy to our parish today as he presents the needs of his diocese in India. Our parish has a great reputation for being generous to the missions. Two weeks ago a dedicated parishioner named Maureen Nihill died. Maureen was a lifelong member of our parish and served OLA in many ways: as an extraordinary minister of Holy Communion, a member of the Parish Planning Council, and a member of the Parish Finance Council. She managed all this and was a wife and mother and held a responsible position at Con Edison. She bore her illness with great grace and resignation and no one was surprised by the large attendance at her funeral. This was a tribute not only to her but also to her children, brothers and sisters. May she rest in peace. Let’s pray for each other, Msgr. Kevin Noone P.S. I am very grateful to those who have been making pledges /gifts to the Annual Catholic Appeal. As you can see, we are making progress slowly but surely. The Arise Program is Coming to Our Lady of Angels We invite you to join the Arise program, which is a 3 year ( six weeks each )

parish centered process of spiritual renewal, evangelization and adult faith

formation that enables people to deepen their faith, develop a closer relationship with Christ, grow in community and reach out in service to others.
