COMENTARIOS DE LOS APODERADOS DE INTERCAMBIO 2007 Los apoderados de nuestro colegio son una parte fundamental en este programa de Intercambio, ellos nos han apoyado y confiado el cuidado de sus hijos durante estas dos semanas. A continuación podrán leer sus opiniones. Mi hijo Tomás participó durante tres años en el programa de Intercambio y nuestra experiencia ha sido excelente. En cada uno de los viajes pude comprobar el crecimiento de mi hijo, su madurez, cómo tomaba decisiones, cómo se volvía más independiente. Creo que el programa de intercambio es mucho más que la posibilidad de practicar un idioma y conocer ciudades importantes. Desde mi óptica, el hecho de que convivan con familias norteamericanas, que se muevan en una cultura con otros códigos y costumbres, que tomen decisiones en un medio que no conocen, los hace crecer como personas, como individuos del mundo, con una mente más abierta, que les permite respetar y aceptar las diferencias. Además, pienso que el hecho de que conozcan países de la importancia de los Estados Unidos de América, los hace valorar también lo que tenemos en estas latitudes, nuestra cultura, nuestras tradiciones, nuestra geografía maravillosa y nuestra gente. Silvia Cao, mamá de Tomás De Simone Cuarto Medio A Para mi hija fue una experiencia inolvidable, tanto en el sentido de la fuerte amistad que se forjó con sus compañeros, el gran apoyo de ustedes y de sus pares que le ayudó a lidiar con los problemas de adaptación a su familia, cómo en el conocimiento de otro estilo y forma de vida, diferente al que ella está habituada. Creo que el estar en contacto con realidades diferentes, les ayuda a entender mejor y valorar sus propias realidades, lo que es fantástico porque les abre la mente y les da más herramientas para enfrentar de un mejor modo cualquier situación. Buen entrenamiento para enfrentarse a situaciones nuevas, solucionar problemas y manejar y controlar su presupuesto. La práctica del idioma es un tema aparte, todo es en inglés, por lo tanto deben pensar en inglés y realmente lo hacen. COMO PADRES DE BELISARIO PANAY SCHWEIZER, ALUMNO DE 1° MEDIO B , QUEREMOS EXPRESAR NUESTRO SATISFACCION POR EL INTERCAMBIO DE NUESTRO HIJO AL COLEGIO GEORGE MASON EN WASHINGTON EN EL MES DE SEPTIEMBRE DE ESTE AÑO. NUESTRO HIJO TUVO LA SUERTE DE VIVIR UNA EXPERIENCIA MUY ENRIQUECEDORA Y CUMPLIR A CABALIDAD EL OBJETIVO DEL VIAJE. SEGUN NOS CONTO PUDO PRACTICAR SU INGLES APRENDIDO EN EL COLEGIO , CONFIRMANDO SU ALTO NIVEL DE APRENDIZAJE, ADEMAS DE INTERCAMBIAR CON NIÑOS NORTEAMERICANOS, Y DESENVOLVERSE EN LA VIDA COTIDIANA SIN NINGUN PROBLEMA, CULTIVANDO GRANDES LAZOS DE AMISTAD CON SU HERMANO "GRINGO". ESTA DE MAS DECIR .LO BIEN ORGANIZADO DEL VIAJE. CON REGIMEN DE ESTUDIOS, Y TOURS, TODO MUY BIEN COORDINADO Y DE LA EXCELENTE SUPERVISION DE MÓNICA LOBO Y MÓNICA RAMÍREZ. AL PERTENECER A LA COMUNIDAD TREWHELINA, RECOMIENDO A LOS PADRES VIVIR ESTA EXPERIENCIA CON SUS HIJOS, MUY ENRIQUECEDORA NO SOLO EN SU DESENVOLVIMIENTO EN EL IDIOMA, SINO COMO UNA EXPERIENCIA INOVIDABLE. Ángel tuvo la oportunidad de ser recibido por una familia latina, pero sus dos hijos no hablan casi español, él tuvo que comunicarse en inglés, volvió muy agradecido y feliz de la oportunidad que tanto el colegio, las profesoras y nosotros los papás le pudimos dar para hacer éste viaje y conocer otras culturas. Agradecemos toda la atención y preocupación para con nuestro hijo. Carmen Gloria Cornejo y Héctor Gutiérrez, papás de Ángel Gutiérrez Primero Medio B La experiencia de mi hija fue maravillosa, estuvo muy bien cuidada y la casa donde la recibieron se portaron un 7. El cuidado de las misses y los reportes diarios por mail que nos dieron, fue EXCELENTE, lo que nos tenía absolutamente tranquilos y relajados. Como para recomendarlo a otros padres de todas maneras. Los lugares que visitaron les encantaron. En relación al idioma Inglés, Camila pudo practicarlo mucho ya que su familia no hablaba nada de Español, y ellos estaban impresionados de lo bien que ella lo hablaba. Familia RESZCZYNSKI-LOBOS, padres de Camila Reszczynski Primero Medio A Quiero comentar lo bueno y recomendable que es el intercambio que realiza el colegio. Uno de los aspectos más importantes del intercambio es que los niños sientan que con el inglés que han estudiado en el colegio son capaces de comunicarse e interactuar con otras personas que hablen este idioma, perdiendo el miedo de hablar en un idioma diferente al propio. Adicionalmente conocen otras culturas, desde la propia familia, lo que les permite valorar lo que tienen. Como experiencia es única y espero que continúe por muchos años en el Colegio. Quisiéramos agradecerles toda vuestra preocupación y cuidados que recibió nuestra hija María Ignacia Quezada. La experiencia que vivió fue realmente enriquecedora y le ayudó para su madurez. Familia Quezada Espinosa, padres de Maria Ignacia Quezada Primero Medio A Fue una experiencia positiva también para el grupo de padres, que nos mantuvimos unidos en permanente comunicación y apoyo. Siempre conectados al Internet para saber también de la experiencia de sus hijos. Agradecer la entrega de confianza a misses como uds. por el permanente cuidado de nuestros hijos. ¡Les agradecemos también la posibilidad de brindarnos mucha alegría, con todas las anécdotas vividas! Ximena Acuña, mamá de Florencia Alegría. Primero Medio A "Cuando se habló de este intercambio Nicolás se motivó mucho y comenzamos entonces a dar los primeros pasos para que se concretara. Lo que no podíamos saber era que esa motivación se iba a multiplicar por mil después del viaje. Su experiencia fue tan positiva que lo único que quiere es volver a USA, ahora por un par de meses .Fueron tantos los amigos que hizo que señala que donde quedarse no es problema, que hay varios que lo tienen invitado. Fue acogido por una familia estupenda, muy cálida y cariñosa, tuvo todas las comodidades y se sintió en confianza desde el primer día. La oportunidad de expresarse en inglés en todo momento fue muy valiosa, le hizo mejorar y soltarse. Era divertido escucharlo por Skype hablando inglés como un verdadero "gringo". Los lazos creados con su "hermano" y con otros jóvenes y niñitas hicieron muy agradable su estadía. Las actividades grupales realizadas, tanto recreativas como culturales, las disfrutó plenamente. Una vez que llegó escuchamos reiterativamente que lo había pasado TAN bien que echaba de menos y que lo único que quería era volver. Nosotros como papás estamos muy felices por su tan rica y grata experiencia y queremos agradecer al colegio por este programa (sólo que el período es muy corto) y a las dos misses Mónica por acompañar a los niños, por estar siempre atentas a todas sus inquietudes y necesidades, por haber sido sus mamás todo ese tiempo y por haberlos ayudado a crecer con esta experiencia. Particularmente agradecemos la preocupación extra que significó el que Nicolás viajara con su brazo inmovilizado y todas las gestiones realizadas por las misses para que el Nico no se perdiera el paseo en bicicleta, actividad cultural que fue evaluada como una de las mejores. COMENTARIOS DE LOS ALUMNOS DE INTERCAMBIO 2007 Nuestros alumnos de Intercambio también quieren expresar sus opiniones y contarnos sus experiencias en este viaje. A continuación, algunos de sus comentarios.

Mason Spirit The plane took off; we were finally on our way to George Mason in Falls Church. On the airplane we were so excited, we had waited months for this moment to arrive, I couldn’t sleep on the plane. It was a long trip, but in the morning of September 15th we had finally landed in Washington DC. At the airport two Spanish teachers from George Mason were waiting to take us to the school by what we called “The Magic School Bus”. I was so excited; I was finally going to meet my American sister, Paige Kerrigan. We had chatted, we had sent and received e-mails to each other, but this was different, we were finally going to see each other, face to face. I was so happy, but also nervous. I was wondering how it was going to be. Was she going to like me? Was she going to be nice? Well, she was the best sister ever, I had a great time with her, and she was so fun to hang out with. Her whole family was so nice, I loved them, they made me feel so comfortable, I felt I was very lucky to have them as my host family. Of course, I can’t forget the rest of the American people, I met some very special people that I shall never forget, and all of them were so welcoming and very enthusiastic. What about the place, Falls Church? It was awesome, so beautiful, so clean, so green, and full of different places where you could do whatever you wanted. We went to many different museums, exhibitions, and monuments, all of them attractive and very interesting. The days started to go really fast; we were having a lot of fun. We went to parties, to Georgetown, to the swimming pool, to Tyson’s, etc. We didn’t look like the Americans and the Chileans anymore; we were just a bunch of kids that wanted to have fun. We were having a great time, but our last day at George Mason was becoming closer. We had a Chilean assembly, where some people danced “Cueca”, others danced “Sau-Sau”, others recited poems and finally there was this excellent music band. The whole show was a success. Now the week had ended and we had to say goodbye, the worst moment of the exchange programme. Goodbye to our families, to our brothers and sisters, to our new friends and to the school. The last hugs, kisses and goodbyes. Now we have to wait until March, to see our new friends again. Later that day I realised I’d made many new friends, Chileans and Americans. We are so close now; we are not anymore the exchange group, now we are the exchange family. It has been an amazing experience; I would recommend it to everyone. I practiced my English, I visited beautiful places, and the best of all, I met wonderful people that I will never forget. María Ignacia Pérez Garayar 1st B

Exchange 2007 The exchange that 21 students from our school participated in was one of the best trips I think a student could experience. We had a really good time, we did really fun things, we became friends with the Americans and we got closer to the Chilean group. The Americans were so nice and kind. They were always worried for us and they are such a nice people. We went on amazing trips, such as the Bike Tour. In my opinion that was the best tour we took there because I usually do not enjoy a lot the boring cultural things, but the guide was really interesting, and he taught me a lot of things about the United States and its monuments. It was a really good tour. The family who hosted me was really good, they made me feel like I was at home, and I felt like I was able to do what I wanted. They were really amazing and very similar to my family. The advantage of this exchange programme is mainly that you get to know a different way of life, a different culture and obviously another country. You learn new things, and you get to do many things that you don’t usually do in your own country. Another advantage is that you can greatly improve your English by just talking with other people. I feel a lot more confident speaking English now. I think that this exchange can’t have any disadvantages. You can have some troubles for example if you don’t like your family, but you can fix that there. Also it may be difficult to live in a different culture, but a few days after arriving you get use to it really well. In my opinion, you must take this opportunity, because you will never forget the experience and you will always have really good memories.

Nicolás Heran (3º Medio C) The exchange program is a real opportunity to grow up, you will practice your English, get a bigger and better vocabulary, visit many interesting and cool places and the most important, you will get to know lots of people, starting by the family who will host you, and also the friends of your brother or sister and the brothers and sister of the rest of the group, to the group itself, people that you usually see every day at school but sometimes don’t even know. I definitely recommend this exchange program to everyone, you should take this chance offered by the school and go to the USA to have an incredible experience, Falls Church is a nice town with lots of nice people that you will remember and miss a lot. You will have a great time as I and all the group did, and you will want to do it again, as some of the people in this group, including me, did. José Yáñez 4° medio A

La experiencia de este intercambio fue increíble. Incluso desde antes de viajar, ya que yo me hice cargo de organizar una de las partes de la presentación que realizamos. La verdad es una excelente manera de conocer gente, uno crea lazos que son realmente duraderos, y no solamente con nuestros hermanos norteamericanos, sino también con nuestros propios compañeros, con los cuales este año, he iniciado amistades que sé que van a durar. También desde el punto de vista cultural, el intercambio es una muy grata experiencia, ya que uno puede conocer una ciudad muy interesante como lo es Washington D.C... Yo creo que todos deberían intentar esta experiencia, la verdad que les va a encantar, así como me gusto a mí. Tomás De Simone Cuarto Medio A

EXCHANGE 2007 My experience in Washington was extremely positive. At the beginning, I was a little afraid to meet my new family, I thought that perhaps I wouldn’t feel comfortable enough, but when I was there my family was so kind to me that I felt like I was at home. I learned a lot about the American culture. The museums were very interesting, I liked the Air and Space museum the most. The bicycle ride in the park was really exciting. The White House Tour was also impressive. The best place was Six Flags Amusement Park It has a lot of awesome roller-coasters. One of the things I really appreciated was rhe friendship I had with the American people, I think we created a strong relationship. Every day at school we talked about our Chilean way of life and we had a lot of fun with that. Many times we went to someone’s house to spend time together and talk. They also learned some interesting Chilean words. There are many advantages in this kind of trips. First, you can improve your English a lot. You are speaking English all day long, even with your Chilean friends. Another advantage is that you meet a lot of new amazing people and you have unforgettable experiences with them. This is bad sometimes, because I cried a lot when we left. I knew I would miss them very much. One disadvantage I had on this trip was with the family, I had some problems with them because sometimes I went out without telling my American parents so they got mad at me. I had some problems with my American sister, but we quickly got over them. You must know you may have problems with some American people, especially with your family. because it is a completely different culture. I think the American students are very excited and impatient to come to Chile next year, and I’m very excited too. In a few words, it was an unforgettable trip.
