Students Qualify for the Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP)

Congratulations to seventh graders: Matthew Sarduy, Elizabeth Massiello, David Segall, Victoria Garcia, and Julian Rosario for qualifying for the Duke University TIP program. They met the criteria for Duke University's Talent Identification Program by scoring 95 or higher on a qualifying Iowa Assessment's subtest. Once qualified and recognized by Duke, students can participate in contests and scholarship recognition programs as well as getting a head start on college by taking the ACT or SAT. Congratulations to these students! On a very special note...Not only did David Segall earn recognition by Duke for his Iowa Assessment scores, but he also earned a combined score of 1540 on the SAT as a Seventh Grader! David will be recognized at a State Recognition Ceremony later this year. We are very proud of David! RESPECT LIFE MINISTRY Jesus didn't come to bring death, but rather, the death of hatred, the death of fighting, the death of calumny, this is killing with the tongue. Jesus did not come to bring death, the death that He suffered for defending life. Jesus came to bring life and to bring abundant life, and He sends us out, carrying that life, but He tells us! "Care for it!" Because there are people who aren't involved in the Gospel: {who are part of} the culture of death. ...life interests them insofar as it is useful, insofar as it has some kind of utility and if not, it doesn't interest them. And throughout the world, this week has been planted, of the culture of death. Most Rev. Jorge Bergoglio, former Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires, now Pope Francis, homily at Mass on August 31, 2005.

Archdiocese of Miami’s Best Kept Secret The Archdiocese of Miami and University of Dayton have teamed up to offer lay men and women an outstanding opportunity to grow in their understanding of the Catholic faith and in their ability to serve the Church. Over the course of the two year program, participants take eight university level courses in Faith and Human Development, the Old Testament, the New Testament, Catholic Doctrine, Church History I and II, Sacraments, and Introduction to Christian Morality. Upon completion of the certificate program, graduates find they are closer to Jesus and are better able to serve in their parish and community. The program is very flexible and is offered in English or Spanish, and can be done either online or in traditional classroom format. The entire program is approximately $600 for all eight courses, a retreat and all books!! Upon graduation, participants receive either the Catholic Studies Certificate or Pastoral Ministry Certificate. Registration for the 2013-15 Class will begin this summer.
