SPORT IRELAND Minister O’Donovan Welcomes World Anti-Doping Leaders To Ireland Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Patrick O’Donovan TD, today welcomed the leaders of 18 National Anti-Doping Organisations (NADOS) to Dublin for a two-day summit hosted by Sport Ireland. The summit, which takes place at Farmleigh, will see NADO leaders from Ireland, USA, UK, Japan, Canada and Germany amongst other countries consider the implications of the recent McLaren Reports on state-sponsored doping and subversion of anti-doping, and further develop the reform proposals previously published by the group. Minister O’Donovan said: “I would like to welcome the leaders of the 18 National AntiDoping Organisations to Ireland for what is a vitally important summit which will discuss some of the very challenging issues facing the fight against doping in sport. I am delighted that Ireland, through Sport Ireland, is playing a lead role in these efforts which will protect interests of clean athletes and the integrity of international sport.” This is the third meeting of the group with summits having taken place in Copenhagen and Bonn in 2016. Following the Copenhagen meeting calls were made for global reform in the fight against doping in sport, including the strengthening of WADA, which were again reiterated following October’s gathering in Bonn. Minister O’Donovan continued: “Recent events have shown that there is a real need for reform in the global fight against doping. It is vitally important that the recommendations which emerged from the Copenhagen summit are implemented to protect the integrity of sport at the highest level. Ireland has strong support for WADA, but in order for WADA to carry out its duty to protect that integrity it needs to be strengthened to enhance its powers of investigation and protect whistle-blowers. EFE Relevista ruso anuncia su retirada tras ser suspendido por cuatro años El relevista ruso Maxim Dildin, campeón de Europa en 4×400 en Barcelona 2010, anunció este lunes su retirada del atletismo, inmediatamente después de ser suspendido durante cuatro años por negarse someterse a un control antidopaje. "Hoy es el día en el que termino oficialmente mi carrera de deportista profesional por unos motivos o por otros que están fuera de mi alcance", dijo Dilkin en su cuenta de Facebook. El Tribunal de Arbitraje Deportivo (TAS) de Lausana tomó la decisión de suspender al atleta ruso el pasado 6 de enero, según informó hoy la Federación Rusa de Atletismo (FRA). Dildin, de 29 años y que se colgó la medalla de bronce en 4×400 en el Mundial disputado en Moscú en 2013, no podrá competir hasta 2021. El cuatrocentista ya se había visto privado en septiembre de 2016 de la medalla de bronce lograda en los Juegos Olímpicos de Pekín (2008) debido al positivo de uno de los cuatro integrantes del equipo ruso: Denís Alexéyev. El pasado 1 de diciembre la Federación Internacional de Atletismo (IAAF) prorrogó la suspensión de la federación rusa por connivencia con el dopaje, lo que ya impidió a los atletas rusos competir en el Mundial de Portland en pista cubierta y los Juegos Olímpicos de Río. Al mismo tiempo, permitió a Yulia Stepánova y Daria Klíshina competir a título individual en los Europeos en pista cubierta que se disputarán en marzo de 2017 en Belgrado. La prolongación de la sanción se produjo antes de la presentación del segundo informe McLaren sobre el dopaje de Estado en Rusia en el que se cifra en más de mil el número de deportistas implicados, lo que incluiría el Mundial de Atletismo disputado en Moscú en 2013.

EFE La IBSF levanta la suspensión a cuatro pilotos rusos por "pruebas insuficientes" La Federación Internacional de Bobsleigh y Skeleton (IBSF) informó este domingo de que ha levantado la suspensión provisional por supuesto dopaje impuesta a cuatro pilotos rusos, por disponer de "pruebas insuficientes". Los cuatro pilotos rusos de skeleton son el campeón olímpico en Sochi 2014, Alexander Tretiakov; la medallista de bronce en esa cita, Elena Nikitina, así como Maria Orlova y Olga Potylitsyna.

Estos deportistas fueron suspendidos tras la divulgación del segundo informe McLaren, que acusaba a Rusia de desarrollar un programa de Estado de dopaje. SPORT INTEGRITY INITIATIVE Second US report claims Russia is behind attacks on ADOs A second US intelligence report has claimed that Russia’s Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU) is behind cyber attacks on anti-doping organisations (ADOs) and the 2016 Presidential election. The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ONDI) published a declassified version of the report on 6 January, which does not contain the corroborating information behind the report, which remains classified.

‘A prominent target since the 2016 Summer Olympics has been the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), with leaks that we assess to have originated with the GRU and that have involved data on US athletes’, it reads (PDF below). On 29 December 2016, the Whitehouse sanctioned the GRU for cyber operations intended to ‘influence the election, erode faith in U.S. democratic institutions, sow doubt about the integrity of our electoral process, and undermine confidence in the institutions of the U.S. government’. INSIDE THE GAMES Olympic Movement's real reaction to Russian doping crisis still remains unclear heading into 2017 The year is only a week old but already we have had several fascinating developments in a Russian doping saga which dominated the sporting landscape in 2015 and 2016 and is set to do the same in 2017. First up, we had a United States Government report - conducted by a triumvirate of intelligence big hitters in the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and The National Security Agency - which concluded that alleged Russian interference in November’s American Presidential Election was a means to avenge the "US-directed" doping scandal. Then we had the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation’s (IBSF) as-of-yet difficult to interpret decision to lift provisional suspensions given to four Russian sliders found by the McLaren investigation to have had doping samples "manipulated" at Sochi 2014.

Nothing was new in the US report and, indeed, many have pointed-out that this conclusion could and should have been made months ago before the election. But it further highlighted how sport is being further entrapped in a diplomatic duel framed as the "new" Cold War between West and East. THE INDEPENDENT Samir Nasri faces prospect of four-year drug ban as WADA demands urgent investigation into LA 'drip' treatment Manchester City’s Samir Nasri faces being banned from football for up to four years, with the World Anti-Doping Agency demanding that an investigation into whether he broke its rules be carried out with utmost urgency, The Independent understands. Nasri, currently on loan at Sevilla, is under investigation by Spain’s Anti-Doping agency after visiting the Los Angeles intravenous therapy clinic ‘Drip Doctors’ last month and though City are indicating that it is a matter for the Spanish club to deal with, they face being lumbered with a banned player if Spain’s anti-doping authority finds wrongdoing. A ban would be disastrous on several levels for City, not least because there would be benefits for them of Nasri moving permanently to Sevilla, where he has started ten La Liga games this season. The Spanish side’s former Stoke City player Steven Nzonzi has emerged as one of the leading defensive midfielders in Spain and City may be interested in trading Nasri for him.

El tres veces campeón británico del Tour de Francia Chris Froome reveló este viernes que rechazó una autorización de uso con fines terapéuticos (AUT) durante la edición de 2015 de la 'Grande Boucle', que conquistó, porque no se hubiera sentido bien "moralmente". "No me sentía dispuesto a beneficiarme de una AUT durante la última semana del Tour. Eso no iba bien moralmente", explicó el ciclista de 31 años a la BBC. Las declaraciones de Froome llegan en plena polémica sobre el uso de las AUT, esas derogaciones autorizadas por el Código Mundial Antidopaje para tomar un producto prohibido. MARCA El jefe de inteligencia de la AMA: "Rusia necesita tiempo para cambiar" El director de inteligencia de la Agencia Mundial Antidopaje (AMA), Günter Younger, destacó que el problema del dopaje ruso no puede resolverse pronto porque se necesitan cambios culturales. "Cuando se quiere cambiar una cultura se tardan muchos años. Los rusos están dando pequeños pasos. No todo lo que se espera, pero han hecho algunas concesiones y los antiguos entrenadores ya no están", dijo Younger al diario muniqués "tz". Más de 1.000 deportistas rusos fueron relacionados con el dopaje en el segundo informe que el investigador Richard McLaren realizó para la AMA y que fue presentado a finales de 2016. Según las pesquisas, Rusia tuvo un sistema estatal de dopaje y falsificó muestras de sus atletas durante los Juegos Olímpicos de invierno de Sochi 2014.

THE INDEPENDENT Maria Sharapova announces return from drug ban at Porsche Grand Prix even though it starts two days before expiry Maria Sharapova will make her professional tennis comeback following her doping ban at the Porsche Grand Prix in Stuttgart in April. The former world number one is serving a 15-month ban after testing positive for cardiac drug meldonium last January and is eligible to compete again on April 26.

The Stuttgart tournament is an obvious comeback event given Porsche is one of her main sponsors, but it had been thought she would not be able to play because it starts two days before her suspension runs out. Whether to invite one of the game's biggest stars will be a big decision for many events in the initial months of her comeback. The two-time French Open champion would need a wild card to play in Paris, and the situation will almost certainly be the same come Wimbledon. Stuttgart is one of Sharapova's most successful events, with the 29-year-old having won the title for three years in a row from 2012 to 2014.
