Sandstone (Sedimentary Rock)- A sedimentary rock known as sandstone is primarily made of quartz sand, however it can also include substantial amounts of feldspar, silt, and clay on occasion.
Uses: Sandstone can be used as a building material, an abrasive, for golf course trap sand, and to make glass, computer chips, fiberglass, TV screens, and paint, among other things.
Limestone (Sedimentary Rock)- Sedimentary rock known as limestone that is mostly made of calcium carbonate, typically in the form of calcite or aragonite.
Uses: Limestone is the source of calcium oxide, which is used in agriculture, papermaking, water purification, the production of plastics and glass, mining, and the manufacture of steel.
Quartz (Mineral- Igneous Rock)- Quartz, the second most prevalent mineral in the Earth's crust after feldspar, is present in almost all three types of rocks.
Uses: Quartz is used in a wide variety of sectors, including the production of jewelry, gemstones, bricks for refractory materials, watches, clocks, and clock movements due to its piezoelectric properties and propensity to gleam.
Marble (Metamorphic Rock)- The most common recrystallized carbonate minerals found in marble, a metamorphic rock, are calcite or dolomite.
Uses: The main uses for marbles are in building and monument construction, interior decorating, statues, table tops, and novelty items.
Talc (Mineral- Metamorphic Rock)- Talc is a common silicate mineral that is incredibly soft, setting it apart from almost all other minerals.
Uses: Talc can be used to make a product opaque, absorb moisture, prevent caking, and increase uniformity in personal care products like loose powders.
SANDSTONE
The extraordinary physical characteristics, including hardness and chemical stability makes sandstones are unique. Sandstones can have vivid and contrasting colors due to iron oxides, manganese oxides, and other impurities.
LIMESTONE
Limestone is incredibly durable. However, because it is a carbonate rock, it absorbs water and is very reactive when exposed to acids or even mildly acidic rainwater. As a result, it can significantly deteriorate.
QUARTZ
One of the most useful natural materials is quartz, which is so significant that practically every rock has some quartz in it. It is extremely durable since it has a Mohs Scale hardness of seven.
MARBLE
Marble is softer because it is naturally more porous. It is softer than other types of stone, which makes it an excellent medium for sculptures and enables more detail in the carvings.
TALC
The Mohs Hardness Scale rates the hardest known material, talc, as having a hardness of 1. Talc has a vitreous and pearly sheen, and its colors range from light grey to green. It is translucent to opaque.
General Objective:
Introduce the Rocks and Minerals and determine their importance.
General Conclusion: Rocks and Minerals are seen everywhere. Each rock and mineral is unique and special in their own way. In products that people use everyday, we don't realize and credit these minerals and rocks because people are not aware. The reason why these rocks and minerals are important and get mined is because it is very valuable and a part of everyone's lives.
