Story Transcript
Grade 2 ‐ First Nine Weeks Report Card Expectations
Reading
Read on an Instructional Level J by the end of the nine weeks Compare and contrast two versions of the same story (characters, plots, settings) (Texts Read Independently) Describe main characters in works of fiction (feelings, actions, relationships) Verbally retell important events in stories using logical order Determine the central message, lesson, or moral Decode short and long vowel sounds in context of text (including the long e rule) Decode words with common spelling patters Read 75 or more high frequency words in isolation and within context during guided and independent reading. Stop to fix up words that do not make sense and use strategies to figure out words when stuck Read independently for 20 to 25 minutes during Reader’s Workshop
Writing
Follow the structure of the narrative writing mode: Write about an Important Event in his/her life Write across pages to create a book about a small moment in his/her life Strengthen the writing by planning using a graphic organizer, revising, and editing Write legibly so others can read his/her writing Demonstrate command of the conventions of grammar Demonstrate command of capitalization and punctuation Use knowledge of common spelling patterns and class word wall for support with spelling Write Independently for 20‐25 minutes during Writer’s Workshop
Mathematics
Uses mathematical process standards to demonstrate understanding (ex. Use a problem‐solving model. Select tools to solve problems. Communicate mathematical ideas. Use representations. Analyze relationships. Justify mathematical ideas.) Composes, decomposes, and represents numbers in more than one way (0‐500) (ex. 492 is 4 hundreds, 9 tens, and 2 ones. 492 is 3 hundreds, 19 tens, and 2 ones. 492 is four hundred ninety‐two. 492 = 400 + 90 + 2.) Compares and orders numbers (0‐500) (ex. 492 is greater than 489. 492 > 489.) Recalls basic addition and subtraction facts with automaticity Solves and generates addition and subtraction problems with 2‐digit numbers (one‐step problems)
Science
Demonstrates safe practices during classroom and outdoor investigations, including wearing safety goggles, washing hands, and using materials appropriately. Classifies materials by physical properties, including shape, relative mass, relative temperature, texture, flexibility, and whether material is a solid or liquid. Compares changes in materials caused by heating and cooling. Changes physical properties of materials by cutting, folding, sanding, and melting. Combines and puts materials together to make them do things that they cannot do by themselves such as building a tower or a bridge and justifies the selection of those materials based on their physical properties.
Social Studies
Identifies characteristics of good citizenship (truthfulness, justice, equality, respect for oneself and others, responsibility in daily life, and participation in government by educating oneself about the issues, respectfully holding public officials to their word, and voting). Recites the Pledge of Allegiance to the United States Flag and the Pledge to the Texas Flag. Identifies patriotic songs ("The Star Spangled Banner" and "America the Beautiful”) and identifies state and national birds and flowers and patriotic symbols such as the U.S. and Texas flags and Uncle Sam. Describes order of events, applies vocabulary related to chronology, and creates and interprets timelines. Locates places on maps and globes (Pasadena, Texas, Austin, the U.S. capital, Dallas, San Antonio, the coast of Texas, Canada, Mexico, and the United States.)
2o Grado Primeras Nueve Semanas – Expectativas para Estudiante
Lectura
Escritura
Grade 2 ‐ Second Nine Weeks Report Card Expectations
