WEST LAKE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL 2013-2014 INFORMATION AFTER SCHOOL DETENTION ASD is a consequence assigned an administrator for rule infractions. Students must complete ASDs the date assigned. Students who have past due ASDs will receive further consequences which may result in suspension. ASDs are held Monday through Friday in room C-51 from 2:50 to 4 p.m. (Depending on consequence) Students are responsible for notifying parents when they receive an ASD. Students with ASDs are NOT eligible to attend assemblies or perform in assemblies. All ASDs must be cleared for students to participate. ASSEMBLIES AND DANCES It is our goal to average one assembly each month. The school is authorized by district policy to conduct at least three dances during the school year for all students. In addition the PTSA may sponsor a dance. Holding these activities is a privilege and privileges are earned. If student behavior during an activity is unacceptable, the activity will be canceled. Unacceptable conduct in assemblies includes, but is not limited to: whistling, uncalled for clapping, boisterousness, yelling out, talking during the program, etc. Conduct in the halls that can lead to cancellation of assemblies or dances may include: excessive tardiness, littering, fighting, general disrespect for others, general disobedience, etc. Assembly Rules: 1. 5 minutes after being excused from class, students are to be in their seats ready for the assembly to start. 2. When an administrator is ready to start the assembly, students should be quiet and ready for instructions. 3. Cat calls, whistling, yelling out, calling students by name, or disrespect for the performers is not acceptable. 4. Food or drink in the auditorium is not allowed. 5. If you are asked to leave an assembly, school consequences will occur, which include

ISS, ASD’s and/or possible suspension. Dance Behavior: 1. The school dress code is to be followed. 2. No running, chasing, hitting or fighting is allowed. Appropriate behavior is required at all times. 3. Moshing or slam dancing, or other types of dancing that could hurt someone is not acceptable. 4. Only West Lake students are allowed. 5. If a dance is stopped, we may cancel future dances. ATTENDANCE POLICY Please read the Granite School District Attendance Policy included in this planner. We ask that you also follow these guidelines regarding your child’s attendance: 1. When your child is sick, please call the Counseling Center at 385-646-5255 and send a note the following day. The note should include your signature, student I.D. # and a phone number where we may reach you. 2. If your child has a medical condition that prevents him/her from coming to school, please provide a copy of the doctor’s note. If the condition is long term, please contact the Counseling Center. 3. Extended vacations during the school year are discouraged; however, please contact the Counseling Center to notify us if your child will be gone. 4. If your child needs to leave school during the day due to illness or a medical appointment, he/she will need to check out through the Counseling Center and obtain a street pass. 5. Please keep your guardian information such as address and phone number updated. Our records need to be current in case of an emergency. 6. If you receive a call from the school indicating that your child has missed classes, please call the Counseling Center to check on it. 7. Please submit an excuse note NO LATER than 2 weeks after the absence. By board policy, teachers may give a zero in citizenship after the 7th absence in a term, if there has been no medical excuse given for the student’s absence.

BICYCLE RACK The bicycle rack is located on the west side of the building. Bikes should be locked up. West Lake assumes no liability for bicycles brought to school. CAFETERIA Students are expected to show courtesy to others and maintain cleanliness in the cafeteria. Each student is responsible to take care of his own tray and litter during lunch. Students and food are to remain in the cafeteria or within the boundaries of the cafeteria during lunch. Students may use the restrooms in the hall by the cafeteria; however, they are not allowed in the other halls, the gymnasium, or other classroom areas during lunch. Students must be in the cafeteria by the bell. Students who misbehave during lunch will be subject to school discipline. CITIZENSHIP/ACADEMIC GRADES Individual teachers are responsible for all grades given in their classes. District policy states that tardies and unexcused absences will result in lower citizenship grades. CLASS MEETINGS The first week of each quarter a class meeting will be held for each grade. To ensure the safety of students and faculty, the rules set forth in this manual and the policies of Granite School District will be discussed as they pertain to school safety and discipline. CONFISCATED ITEMS Items that are not allowed at school may be confiscated by any staff member at West Lake Junior High. Any item that is confiscated by a staff member will be returned according to the following policy: • 1st Offense – Returned to the student at the end of the day taken. • 2nd Offense – Returned to the student after one week from the date taken or returned to a parent or guardian. • 3rd Offense – Held until the end of the school year and returned to the student or parent starting on June 4, 2014. DRESS STANDARDS-FOR MORE INFORMATION SEE THE DRESS CODE IN THE BACK OF BOOK 1. Any inappropriate messages/images or messages/images that promote gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or sex will not be allowed. 2. NO gang related clothing or accessories are permitted including:  No solid red, solid navy blue without graphic designs  Hats, gloves, hair nets  Bandanas of any color-worn or carried  Oversized or chain belts  Belt buckles with Old English script.  Dressing color on color. Examples are red top/red pants or blue top/blue pants. 3. Pants, shorts, overalls, skirts, and jumpers need to ride at the natural waist and cover all underwear. 4. All clothing, shorts and skirts may be no higher than mid thigh. 5. All shirts must cover the midriff when arms are raised. No tank tops or slender strapped tops unless another shirt is worn under or over it. 6. Students should not wear immodest or inappropriate clothing. 7. Any item, dress, behavior, or appearance that causes a disruption to the educational atmosphere of the classroom or the school is prohibited. The administration reserves the right to modify the Dress Code as needed to ensure the safety of all students. Clothing for P.E. and Dance will be determined by those teachers. The purpose of adopting these requirements is to encourage students to “Dress for Success” so they come to school properly prepared to participate in the educational process.

DRUGS AND ALCOHOL The illegal use, possession, distribution, or sale of alcohol, drugs, or drug paraphernalia within 1000 feet of the school is prohibited. It is also prohibited for students to be where illegal drugs are possessed or being used. Students who violate this policy will be referred to law enforcement and the Granite School District for violation of the district’s Drug and Alcohol Policy. ELECTRONIC DEVICES Within the classroom, electronic devices are allowed under the direction of the teacher for educational purposes. Electronic devices will be confiscated if used in the classroom without permission. If confiscated, they will be returned according to the rules for “Confiscated Items” • 1st Offense – Returned to the student at the end of the day taken. • 2nd Offense – Returned to the student after one week from the date taken or returned to a parent or guardian. • 3rd Offense – Held until the end of the school year and returned to the student or parent starting on June 4, 2014. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR STUDENT BODY OFFICERS All candidates for student body office must have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.000 for the first 3 terms of their 7th grade year, and a 3.000 citizenship point average (CPA) for the first 3 terms of their 7th grade year in order to be eligible to run for student body office. Furthermore, such candidates may not run for office if they have one or more 0’s in citizenship and/or one or more F’s during the first 3 terms of their 7th grade year. 7th Grade Total Fees (Includes Yearbook) - $112.00 8th Grade Total Fees (Includes Yearbook) - $97.00 These costs are estimated and may be changed by the District before school starts. There may be other fees charged for supplies in classes such as Art, Shop, or Foods classes. You will be notified of these by the individual teachers. Parts of some fees are refundable at the end of the school year provided all fees and fines have been paid first. You have the option of donating any refunds due to you to the school. We welcome donations. Fee waivers will take care of most fees, if you qualify, but will not take care of optional fees. See the front office if you have any questions about fees or fee waivers. A $5.00 charge will be made for all non-necessary schedule changes. FIGHTING When students disagree with one another, or have conflicts which need to be resolved, they should take such matters to the school counselors or administrators. Fighting is not allowed on campus, on the way to school or on the way home. All students involved in a fight, regardless of who starts it, will receive an automatic out-ofschool suspension, possible POLICE & COURT involvement, and students will be put on a school safety contract. One or more suspension(s) for fighting may result in expulsion from school and/or referral to law enforcement.

FINES AND FEES Fines and fees do carry over from year to year at West Lake Jr. High. Most fines come from books that are not turned back in or from unpaid registration fees. Some books cost as much as $75 to replace. Unpaid fines and fees can prevent students from receiving their memory book until the last day of school and/or from receiving their activity cards. Please make sure all books are returned on time and in good condition to avoid being charged for them. 8th graders who owe fees may not be able to participate in 8th grade year end activities. FOLLOWING DIRECTIONS OF STAFF The first of West Lake’s School-Wide Rules states: “Follow directions of all staff members.” Student safety, success, and well-being require that all students follow this rule. FRIDAY SCHOOL This is a 2 hour extended learning period, held on Fridays from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM. Friday Schools can be assigned for various infractions. Students with Friday School will not be allowed to attend, or perform in, assemblies. Parent contact will be attempted if a student is assigned a Friday School. GUM, POP, CANDY Vending machines are provided for students to purchase candy and bottled water. Students are not to use the machines during class time, between classes or be late to class as a result of using the machines. Vending machines are available before school, during lunch and after school. HALLS Students should not be in the building prior to 7:20 a.m. each morning (unless attending early morning MAP activity), and must clear the building by 3:00 p.m. Exceptions occur when the student is in a supervised activity with a staff member present. During class time, students must have a valid hall pass to be in the halls. Students in violation of these rules will be given an ASD or other school consequences. Students will not be given hall passes during the last 25 minutes of the day. Students can not have a hall pass during the first 10 minutes and last 10 minutes of each class period; and during lunches. HOMEWORK School policy states that students should spend an average of ½ to one hour each night on homework to learn the material taught in class. This is the time to complete assignments, read and review chapters, memorize terms, etc. ILLNESS If a student becomes ill, or is injured while at school, the student must report to a teacher immediately. If the injury or illness requires attention beyond that which can be provided by the teacher, the teacher will request assistance or give the student a hall pass to go to the Counseling Center where he will be checked out of school as soon as a parent or guardian can be contacted. Students are not to leave school without school/parent permission and a street pass. LANGUAGE THE USE OF FOUL OR ABUSIVE LANGUAGE IS NOT PERMITTED IN THIS SCHOOL. Students will be given an ASD or other consequences, for the use of foul language. Utah Law 53A-11-904 states: “Students who use foul, profane, vulgar, or abusive language may be suspended from school.” When this language is directed at a staff member, the student can be suspended. Bad language shows a lack of respect for self and others, detracts from our school pride and demonstrates poor use of the English language by the person using this bad language. LOCKERS Lockers are school property. Students are permitted to use them for their convenience. Each student is responsible for the locker assigned to him/her. Sharing lockers is not allowed. Lockers should not be kicked, banged, defaced, damaged nor have personal locks placed on them (they will be cut off). Locker decorations should be appropriate, inoffensive, and removable. Stickers of any sort are not permitted. It is against the fire code for lockers to be decorated and/or stuffed for birthdays or at other times. This may increase the hazard of a fire. The administration has the legal right to search lockers at any time for any reason. Because lockers are not secure places, students use them at their own risk. We strongly recommend that students help protect their

belongings by not telling anyone, including friends, their combination. If your student has problems getting into his/her locker, he/she must add his/her name to the list in the office and the custodian will make the repair. There is a charge for locker combination changes or for more than one request for the combination.

Backpacks and bags are to be kept in the locker. They are not allowed in classrooms. LOSS OF PERSONAL PROPERTY West Lake Junior High School and Granite School District are not responsible for any personal property that is lost, stolen or vandalized. There is no provision that allows payment for any personal item that is taken from a student enrolled in the Granite School District. The school will not investigate the loss or theft of personal property that are not supposed to be at school. (i.e. IPods, PSPs, Cell phones) LUNCH AND BREAKFAST INFORMATION Lunches cost $1.65 each. Breakfast is $1.05 each. In order to receive credit for that school day, students are to bring lunch and/or breakfast money to the front office before 10:00 a.m. and deposit it in the locked box on the front counter. Students should seal all money in the envelopes found next to the deposit box and fill out the information on the envelopes clearly and correctly. Our secretary will enter the amounts, as they appear on the envelope, into the computer. Other food items are available for cash at our a la carte counter or from the vending machines. Breakfast is served beginning at 7:20 a.m. Students may enter through the cafeteria’s east doors or the north doors by the cafeteria. Students obtain one breakfast and/or lunch daily by entering their PIN number into the computer as they enter the serving area (Cash/checks are not accepted at the computer for lunches). The computer then deducts the correct amount from their account. It is strongly advised that students not disclose their PIN number to anyone. Free or reduced-price lunches and breakfasts are available when families quality. An application is required. Additional information and the required application are available at the front office. LUNCH PROCEDURES There are two lunch periods. Each student’s lunch time is determined by his/her 3rd period class. Lunch can be eaten in the cafeteria. No food or drink may be taken from the cafeteria or outside. Students may not leave campus for lunch unless the student’s parent/guardian picks him/her up from the Counseling Center and receives a street pass. Students who leave campus during lunch or anytime during school hours, without a street pass, will receive administrative and/or legal disciplinary action. MAKE-UP WORK AND HOMEWORK REQUESTS Students who are absent for any reason are required to make-up work missed in each class. It is the student’s responsibility to obtain all make-up work from his/her teachers upon returning to school. The work is expected to be completed in a timely fashion as defined by the teachers. If a student will be absent more than three (3) consecutive days, a request for homework can be made through the Attendance Office before 10:00 a.m. and picked up at 3:30 p.m. Homework requests will be held no longer than one week in the Attendance Office. MEMORY YEARBOOKS Memory books are available to purchase at registration and throughout the year. They will cost $20.00 per book. We have a time set aside during the last week of school for memory book signing, but if your student has outstanding fees or fines owing, he/she will not receive his/her books until the last day of school and will miss the memory book signing. EIGHTH GRADE END OF YEAR CELEBRATION Students must earn the right to participate in these activities by meeting the following criteria: 1. Students must have a cumulative grade point/citizenship average of 2.0 for the first three terms of the school year. 2. The student must not have been involved in any fights or violations of School Safety, Substance Abuse, or Sexual Harassment policies. 3. Students who are suspended during the fourth term will not participate. 4. Students with outstanding ASDs may not participate. 5. Students must have cleared all fees/fines to participate. NON-SCHOOL ITEMS Non-school items such as MP3 players, CD’s, CD players, toys, electronic games, dice, bats, balls, skateboards, ukele’s, rollerblades, etc., should not be brought to school. Staff members will confiscate items that violate this policy. These items will be returned according to the Confiscated Items policy. Items that may be used for vandalism (lighters, spray paint, markers, etc.) will not be returned. Skateboards, rollerblades, scooters and the like may not be ridden on school property at any time. Any items remaining two weeks after school is out for the year will be donated to charity. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen items, even if they are stored in hall or gym lockers. PUBLIC DISPLAY OF AFFECTION Public displays of affection are unacceptable. Students will be warned for initial violations. If the behavior continues, parents will be notified and disciplinary action will be taken. SAFE WALKING ROUTE TO SCHOOL Main walking routes and areas of concern for walking students at West Lake Junior High are: • When walking to school, walk towards and use the following major access routes to West Lake Junior High: Christy Avenue, Tess Avenue, 3100 South, 3450 West, and 3500 South. • Only use clearly marked pedestrian cross walks when crossing any street. • If you live in the area west of Bangerter Highway use the pedestrian over pass that crosses Bangerter Highway at 3100 South. • Do not cross Bangerter Highway at 3500 South. • Streets that are of major concern to walking students are Bangerter Highway, 3600 West, 3200 West and 2700 West. These are major streets and for West Valley City. Please use extreme caution when walking along and crossing these streets. Only cross these streets at intersections that are clearly marked for pedestrians to cross. • If you are coming from the west of West Lake Junior High use Christy Avenue as a major access route. • If you are coming from the north east of West lake Junior High use Tess Avenue as a major access route. SCHOOL SAFETY POLICY Acts of criminal behavior that place any person in imminent danger are prohibited in school, on school grounds, to and from school, at school-sanctioned activities, when students are being transported in vehicles dispatched by the district, or in other locations where such behavior threatens or does harm to the school, school property, or persons associated with the school. Students who violate the school safety policy will always be referred to law enforcement for legal actions, and suspended to the district for administrative discipline which can remove the student from the school for up to one year. Violations of the School Safety Policy include, but are not limited to:  Assault, Aggravated assault  Any form of gang activity or behavior  Any type of criminal behavior  Arson  Sexual harassment (as well as other forms of harassment)  Hazing  Burglary, Aggravated burglary  Vandalism, graffiti, destruction or defacement of school property  Possession, control, actual or threatened use of a real, look-alike, or pretend weapon  Possession, distribution or selling of illegal substances

 Any act involving the use of physical force or the threatened use of force against life or property regardless of intent.  Willful disobedience or persistent defiance of authority  Anything that may place any person(s) in imminent danger  Student acts of frequent or flagrant willful disobedience, defiance of proper authority, or disruptive behavior Both School and District administrators will follow due process as outlined in the written School Safety Policy. SEXUAL HARASSMENT POLICY Granite District has a zero tolerance sexual harassment policy governing all employees and students. Zero tolerance means that allegations of sexual harassment will be investigated the first time and every time they are reported. Anyone being sexually harassed should report such to parents/guardians, administration, counselors, teachers, or police. Any form of sexual harassment by staff or students, including any inappropriate verbal, written, or physical conduct, is strictly prohibited. Those who make false or frivolous charges, however, will also be disciplined. Copies of this policy are available at the front office. SNOWBALLING When it snows, students must leave the snow on the ground. Throwing snowballs is prohibited and will subject the offending student to disciplinary action. Students who throw snowballs at cars are violating the law and will be referred to the police, as well as being disciplined by the school. SPIRIT DAY Every Wednesday is Spirit Day at West Lake. We encourage students and staff to wear their West Lake t-shirts, sweatshirts or other school related apparel. SUSPENSION When a student is suspended, the parent/guardian will be contacted. The student will be released to the parent/guardian or the student may walk or ride home with a person the parent/guardian has designated. If the parent/guardian cannot be reached, the student may be sent (with a law enforcement officer) to the Juvenile Receiving Center (177 W. Price Ave.). Students will not be readmitted to school until the parent or guardian and the student meet with an administrator and a commitment to resolve the problem has been reached. TARDY POLICY Students are expected to arrive on time to school and to each class. Tardy consequences will start on the 3rd individual class tardy. 1. Consequences starting on the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th , and 7th tardies are as follows: • 3rd = Student/Teacher conversation • 4th = Teacher calls home (Possible 1 citizenship grade.) • 5th = Zero in citizenship • 6th = 20 min ASD with 4th period teacher • 7th= Administrator meeting with student and parent Chronic tardiness will result in referrals to truancy court and may involve law enforcement. Teachers may provide the option of allowing tardies to be made up during the term being graded. TELEPHONE The school phone is for school business ONLY. Students will be allowed to use the phone in the Counseling Center ONLY for emergencies such as illness or injury. This phone is not to be used for any other purpose and students must bring a note from their teacher stating the nature of the emergency in order to be allowed to use the Counseling Center phone. TUTORING AND MEDIA CENTER Tutoring is available each morning that school is in session from 7:00 - 7:30 a.m. Students attending tutoring must enter through the exterior Media Center door. Students choosing to participate should be actively involved in obtaining tutoring while in the Media Center. The school is open for students not involved in tutoring at 7:20 a.m. The Media Center is open each school day to all students beginning at 7:00 - 7:45 a.m. and from 2:45 - 3:00

p.m. (except on Fridays). Students may also use the Media Center during the day with permission from, or when accompanied by, their teacher. VALUABLES Students should leave valuables at home. When it is necessary to bring valuables to school (such as money, etc.), students should bring them to the front office to have them placed in the safe until needed. Please remember that lockers are not secure places. The school assumes no responsibility for items taken from lockers. VISITORS Parents and guardians are invited and encouraged to visit West Lake; however, we do not allow other visitors, family members, or friends to attend classes with our students. Visitors are required to report to the front office and obtain a visitor’s pass. Parents wishing to attend a class must obtain the permission of the administration prior to their visit. WEST LAKE JR. By board policy, teachers may give a zero in citizenship after the 7th absence in a term, if there has been no medical excuse given for the student’s absence.

We are here to help your child succeed, but we cannot complete that goal without your parental involvement and your student’s participation. We need parents and students to be actively involved with attendance at West Lake. Students need to be at school EVERY DAY, ALL DAY and ON TIME. DRESS CODE THE DRESS CODE IS VERY SPECIFIC. PLEASE BUY APPROPRIATE CLOTHES! West Lake Middle School expects students to dress for success. If students fail to meet the following dress standards, they will be asked to change into clothing apparel that meets dress standards. This includes, but is not limited to: Clothing must be neat, clean and must not detract from the learning environment by creating distractions. Clothing or apparel that advertises or displays in picture or word, tobacco, sexual innuendo, alcoholic beverages, brewery logos, drugs/controlled substances or guns/weapons are not permitted in Granite District Schools. TOPS: All tops must cover the shoulder completely. They may not be sheer, see-through, mesh, or netted. No tank tops or spaghetti straps are permitted unless worn OVER a t-shirt or top that meets the dress code. The style of clothing must be modest enough to cover all underwear, bra straps and cleavage. The length of the tops should be long enough to tuck in and/or cover the waistline of the pants or skirt (no bare stomachs). ALL clothing must meet dress code even if it is covered by a jacket, hoodie or sweater. All tops must be worn on the right side (no inside out). Numbers and Old English will be restricted (though not prohibited) according to current recommendation by the Metro Gang Task Force. BOTTOMS: Pants must be worn so that the underclothing (e.g. underwear, gym shorts) is not visible. Tight fitting spandex, Lycra or leggings are not allowed. Skirts, dresses jumpers, and shorts must approach the knee in length and cover at least three fourths of the thigh. Slits in dresses or skirts should not extend above mid-thigh. Jersey/sport and pajama bottoms are not allowed. No “pegged” pants. ACCESSORIES: Chains, sharp jewelry and spikes are not allowed at school. If worn, gages MUST have a blunt end. No hats, bandanas, gloves, or sunglasses may be worn in the building. These items should be kept in the locker. Rubber bands may not be used to cuff pants. SHOES: Students must wear proper shoes at all times: no slippers will be permitted. Shoelaces must be black or white. HAIR/MAKEUP: Hair and makeup must not be distractive to learning. BACKPACKS: Backpacks, bags, and purses are to be kept in the lockers. Students only need to carry notebooks, books, planners and pencils to class. COLORS: Students must wear multiple colors (example: white shirt and blue pants). No blue on blue, red on red, black on black, etc. This along with any other dress code issue as determined to be a concern by the Metro Gang Task Force are all part of the school’s dress code. Students who choose not to follow the dress code will have parents notified and may be sent home until proper attire is obtained. When parents cannot be reached, students will be referred to detention.

Note: Each time a dress code violation occurs a student will be issued an orange dress code shirt to wear throughout the day. DRESS STANDARDS 3. Any inappropriate messages/images or messages/images that promote gangs, drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or sex will not be allowed. 4. NO gang related clothing or accessories are permitted including:  No solid red, solid navy blue without graphic designs  Hats, gloves, hair nets  Bandanas of any color-worn or carried  Oversized or chain belts  Belt buckles with Old English script.  Dressing color on color. Examples are red top/red pants or blue top/blue pants. 3. Pants, shorts, overalls, skirts, and jumpers need to ride at the natural waist and cover all underwear. 4. All clothing, shorts and skirts may be no higher than mid thigh. 5. All shirts must cover the midriff when arms are raised. No tank tops or slender strapped tops unless another shirt is worn under or over it. 6. Students should not wear immodest or inappropriate clothing. 7. Any item, dress, behavior, or appearance that causes a disruption to the educational atmosphere of the classroom or the school is prohibited.

The administration reserves the right to modify the Dress Code as needed to ensure the safety of all students. Clothing for P.E. and Dance will be determined by those teachers. The purpose of adopting these requirements is to encourage students to “Dress for Success” so they come to school properly prepared to participate in the educational process. KEEP IT AT HOME. Items not required for specific classroom instruction and participation should be left at home. This may include, but is not limited to: music devices, roller blades, skateboards, electronic games, toys, cellular phones, and cameras. These items will be held until parents pick them up.

WEST LAKE JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL (ESCUELA SECUNDARIA MEDIA WEST LAKE) INFORMACIÓN 2013-2014 DETENCIÓN DESPUÉS DEL HORARIO ESCOLAR (ASD) ASD es una consecuencia asignada al estudiante por la dirección escolar o los maestros por infracciones a reglas de carácter menor. Los estudiantes deben completar la detención ASD dentro de una semana de la fecha asignada. Los estudiantes que no hayan cumplido con las detenciones ASD recibirán más consecuencias, las cuales pueden resultar en una suspensión. Los días martes a jueves están asignados para cumplir la ASD en el salón A-8 desde las 3:00 p.m. hasta las 4:00 p.m. Los estudiantes son responsables de notificar a los padres cuando reciben una detención ASD. Los estudiantes que tienen una o más ASD pendientes NO son elegibles para asistir o actuar en las asambleas escolares. Para que los estudiantes puedan participar, deben haber cumplido con todas las detenciones ASD. ASAMBLEAS y BAILES Es nuestra meta realizar una asamblea estudiantil al mes. La escuela está autorizada por reglamento escolar para tener por lo menos tres bailes para todos los estudiantes durante el año escolar. En complemento, la Asociación de Padres, Estudiantes y Maestros (PTSA) puede patrocinar un baile. El tener estas actividades es un privilegio y los privilegios se logran. Si el comportamiento de los estudiantes durante una actividad no es aceptable, la actividad será cancelada. El comportamiento no aceptable en las asambleas incluye, pero no está limitado a: chiflidos, aplauso/s no llamado, tumulto, gritos, conversación durante el programa, etc. El comportamiento en los corredores que puede llevar a la cancelación de la asamblea o baile puede consistir en: muchas llegadas a clase tarde, arrojar desperdicios, peleas, falta de respeto general a otros, desobediencia general, etc. Reglas de la asamblea: 1. Cinco (5) minutos después de ser autorizados salir de la clase, los estudiantes deben estar en sus asientos listos para el comienzo de la asamblea. 2. Cuando un director/a está listo para comenzar la asamblea, los estudiantes deben estar callados y listos para recibir las instrucciones. 3. No se permite el ingreso de comida o bebida en el auditorio. 5. Si se te pide que te retires de la asamblea, la escuela impondrá consecuencias, las cuales

consisten en la Suspensión Durante el Horario Escolar (ISS) o Detención Escolar (ASD). Comportamiento del Estudiante durante el Baile: 1. Se debe cumplir con el código de vestimenta escolar. 2. No se permite correr, perseguir, golpear o pelear. Se requiere tener buen comportamiento siempre. 3. No se acepta bailar los estilos “moshing o slam” u otros tipos de baile que puedan lastimar a otro 4. Los estudiantes de la Escuela West Lake son permitidos solamente asistir al baile. 5. Si un baile se tiene que suspender durante su curso, nosotros podemos cancelar los bailes futuros. 6. Si ustedes reciben un llamado de la escuela que indica que su hijo/a estudiante ha faltado a clases, por favor llame al Counseling Center para comprobar la información. 7. La escuela no aceptará notas por faltas, con excusa, después de 2 semanas de la ausencia del estudiante. Por reglamento del Consejo de Educación, los maestros pueden asignar una calificación (nota) cero en Conducta Social (Citizenship) después de la 7ma. ausencia del estudiante en un período de calificaciones (term), si no se presentó ninguna excusa médica por la ausencia o falta del estudiante a la escuela. ESTACIONAMIENTO de BICICLETAS El lugar para estacionar la bicicleta está ubicado en el lado Oeste del edificio. La bicicleta debe tener un candado. La Escuela West Lake no asume ninguna responsabilidad por las bicicletas que se traen a la escuela. CAFETERIA Se espera que los estudiantes muestren cortesía a otros y mantengan la limpieza de la cafetería. Cada estudiante es responsable de los desperdicios de su bandeja durante el almuerzo. Los estudiantes deben permanecer en la cafetería o dentro de la cafetería durante el almuerzo. No se permitirá ningún mensaje y/o imagen inapropiados que promuevan las pandillas callejeras (gangs), las drogas, el alcohol, el tabaco o las relaciones sexuales. 2. NO se permite el uso de ropa o accesorios relacionados a las pandillas callejeras (gangs), inclusive:  No se pueden usar T-shirts (camisetas) de color rojo y azul sin diseños (de un color sólido)  Sombrero, gorra, guantes, red de cabello  Bandana (pañuelo grande) de cualquier color-que se lleva o usa  Cinturón de cadena o más grande del tamaño apropiado al estudiante  Lazos o cordones de zapatos de color rojo o azul  Hebillas de cinturón con escritura en Old English (inglés antiguo)  Vestirse de un color sobre el mismo color. Ejemplos, parte superior roja con pantalones rojos o parte superior azul con pantalones azules.  No se pueden usar “jerseys” (pulóver) excepto el Día de Deportes o los “jerseys” del equipo de West Lake los días de partido. 3. Los pantalones, shorts, overalls (mamelucos), faldas y jumpers se deben usar al nivel de la cintura y cubrir toda la ropa interior.

4. Toda la vestimenta, shorts y faldas no se pueden usar más arriba de la mitad del muslo. NORMAS DE VESTIMENTA ESCOLAR (Continuación) 5. DROGAS y ALCOHOL Está prohibido el uso ilegal, posesión, distribución o venta de alcohol, drogas o instrumentos para drogarse (parafernalia) dentro de una distancia de 1000 pies (304.8 metros) de la propiedad escolar. Además, está prohibido que los estudiantes se encuentren donde se usan o se poseen drogas ilegales. Los estudiantes que no cumplen con este reglamento serán enviados a la policía y el Distrito Escolar de Granite por no cumplir con el Reglamento de Alcohol y otras Drogas del Distrito Escolar de Granite. REQUISITOS de ELIGIBILIDAD a CARGOS del CUERPO ESTUDIANTIL y CHEERLEADERS Todos los candidatos a cargos del cuerpo estudiantil y cheerleading (porristas) deben tener un Promedio de Calificaciones Acumulado (GPA) de 3.000 y Promedio de Citizenship (Conducta Social) Promedio (CPA) de 3.000 durante los primeros 3 períodos de calificaciones (terms) de su 8vo. Estos costos son estimados y pueden ser cambiados por el Distrito Escolar antes del comienzo de las clases. PELEAS (FIGHTING) Cuando los estudiantes no están de acuerdo entre unos y otros o tienen conflictos que necesitan ser resueltos, ellos deberían llevar esos asuntos al consejero o director/a/ o subdirector/a escolar. No se permiten las peleas en la propiedad escolar, en camino a la escuela o el hogar. Todos los estudiantes que participan en una pelea, sin considerar quién comenzó la pelea, recibirán una suspensión fuera de la escuela automática y serán puestos bajo un contrato de seguridad escolar. Más de una suspensión por pelear puede dar como resultado la expulsión del estudiante de la escuela o el envío a la policía. CUOTAS y MULTAS ESCOLARES Las cuotas y multas se transfieren de un año a otro en la Escuela West Lake Jr. High. La mayoría de las multas son resultado de los libros que no se han entregado o por cuotas de inscripción que no se pagaron. Algunos libros cuestan tanto como $75 para ser reemplazados. Las cuotas y multas que no se pagan pueden ser un obstáculo para que el estudiante reciba su Libro de Recuerdos hasta el último día de clases y/o sus tarjetas de actividades. Por favor asegúrese que todos los libros se devuelven en fecha y en buenas condiciones para evitar ser cobrado por ellos. Los estudiantes de 9° Grado que deben cuotas pueden no ser capaces de participar en las actividades de 9° Grado de fin de año escolar, (Por ejemplo, Lagoon Day [Día de Lagoon], Celebration Dance [Baile de Celebración]). CUMPLIMIENTO de INSTRUCCIONES de los EMPLEADOS ESCOLARES La primera de las reglas de la Escuela Secundaria Media West Lake expresa: “Cumple las instrucciones de todos los empleados escolares.” La seguridad, el éxito y bienestar del estudiante requiere que todos los estudiantes cumplan con esta regla o norma escolar. PROGRAMA ESCOLAR del VIERNES Éste es un período de aprendizaje extendido de 3 horas del día viernes, de 12:30 PM a 3:30 PM. Se puede asignar al estudiante al programa del día viernes por varias infracciones o el estudiante puede asistir para eliminar 3 detenciones ASD. Los estudiantes que fueron asignados al Programa Escolar del Viernes no serán permitidos asistir o actuar en asambleas escolares. Si el estudiante es asignado al Programa Escolar de Viernes, los padres serán notificados. GOMA de MASCAR, LATAS de SODA, GOLOSINAS (DULCES) Las máquinas de ventas se ofrecen para que los estudiantes compren golosinas y botellas de agua. Los estudiantes no pueden usar las máquinas de venta durante el horario de clase, entre los períodos de clases o llegar tarde a clase como resultado de usar las máquinas de venta. CORREDORES (Halls) No se permite el ingreso de estudiantes en el edificio antes de las 7:20 a.m. cada mañana y los estudiantes no deben estar en el edificio a las 3:00 p.m. Existen excepciones cuando el estudiante está participando en una actividad supervisada con un maestro/a presente. Durante el horario de clase, los estudiantes deben tener un pase de corredor válido para estar en los corredores. Los estudiantes que no cumplan con estas reglas recibirán una suspensión ASD u otras consecuencias escolares. Los estudiantes no recibirán pases de corredores durante los últimos 25 minutos del día escolar.

TAREAS ESCOLARES en CASA (homework) El reglamento escolar expresa que los estudiantes deben pasar un promedio de ½ a una hora cada noche haciendo tareas escolares en casa (homework) para aprender la información que se enseñó en clase. Éste es el tiempo de terminar las asignaciones de los maestros, leer y revisar los capítulos de estudio, memorizar términos, etc.

ENFERMEDAD Si el estudiante se enferma o lesiona durante el horario escolar, él o ella debe informarlo a un maestro/a inmediatamente. Si la enfermedad o lesión requiere atención más allá de la que se puede ofrecer por el maestro/a, el maestro/a solicitará asistencia o entregará al estudiante un pase del corredor para ir al Counseling Center (Centro de Consejería) en donde él o ella será autorizado a salir de la escuela tan pronto como un padre/s o tutor legal pueda ser comunicado. Los estudiantes no deben salir de la escuela sin el permiso de los empleados escolares y el padre/s y un pase para salir de la calle. LENGUAJE NO SE PERMITE EL USO DE MALAS PALABRAS O LENGUAJE ABUSIVO EN ESTA ESCUELA. Los estudiantes recibirán una detención ASD u otras consecuencias, por el uso de malas palabras. La Utah Law (Ley de Utah), Sección 53A-11-904 expresa que: “Los estudiantes que usan malas palabras, lenguaje profano o vulgar o abusivo pueden ser suspendidos de la escuela.” Cuando este lenguaje se dirige a un empleado escolar, el estudiante será suspendido. Las malas palabras muestran falta de respeto por uno mismo y los otros, detraen de nuestro orgullo escolar y demuestran un uso bajo del idioma inglés por la persona que usa las malas palabras. CASILLEROS o “LOCKERS” del ESTUDIANTE Los casilleros o “lockers” pertenecen a la propiedad escolar. Los estudiantes son permitidos usar su locker para su comodidad. Cada estudiante es responsable por el locker que se le asignó. No se permite compartir el casillero o locker del estudiante. Los Lockers no pueden ser pateados, golpeados, deteriorados, dañados, ni se pueden poner candados personales (el candado personal se removerá). Las decoraciones del locker deben ser adecuadas, no deben ofender y deben poder retirarse. No se permite el uso de stickers (pegotines) de ninguna clase. Está en contra del código de incendios que el locker se decore con cosas en los cumpleaños u otras ocasiones. Esto puede aumentar el peligro de incendio. La dirección escolar tiene el derecho legal de investigar el casillero o locker del estudiante en todo momento. Debido a que los lockers no son lugares seguros, los estudiantes los usan bajo su propio riesgo. Nosotros recomendamos mucho que los estudiantes ayuden a proteger sus pertenencias no diciendo a nadie, inclusive sus amigos, la combinación del locker. Si su hijo/a estudiante tiene problemas para abrir el locker, él o ella debe escribir su nombre en la lista de la oficina y el conserje hará la reparación del locker. Se cobra un costo por cambiar la combinación del candado del locker o por más de una solicitud de combinación.

Las mochilas y bolsas de libros se deben guardar en el casillero (locker) del estudiante. No se permiten en los salones de clase. PÉRDIDA de la PROPIEDAD PERSONAL La Escuela West Lake Junior High y el Distrito Escolar de Granite no son responsables por la pérdida, robo o deterioro de cualquier propiedad personal. No existe ninguna disposición que permita el pago de un artículo personal que le desparezca a un estudiante inscrito en el Distrito Escolar de Granite. La escuela no investigará la pérdida o hurto de la propiedad personal, la cual no debe estar en la escuela (Por ejemplo, IPods, PSPs, Celulares) INFORMACIÓN del DESAYUNO y el ALMUERZO El costo del almuerzo es $1.40 por persona. El costo del desayuno es $0.85 por persona. Con el fin de recibir la comida ese día escolar, los estudiantes deben traer el dinero del desayuno y/o el almuerzo a la oficina administrativa antes de las 10:00 de la mañana y depositarlo en la caja con candado que está en la mesada de entrada. Los estudiantes tienen que guardar el dinero en el sobre que se encuentra al lado de la caja de depósito y escribir la información del sobre correctamente y con claridad. Nuestra secretaria ingresará las cantidades de dinero que están en los sobres en la computadora. Otros artículos de comida están disponibles con dinero al contado en nuestra mesada o en las máquinas de ventas. El desayuno se sirve a partir de las 7:20 a.m. Los estudiantes pueden ingresar a través de las puertas Este de la Cafetería o las puertas Norte al lado de la Cafetería. Los estudiantes obtienen un almuerzo y/o desayuno cada día ingresando su número de identificación PIN en la computadora a medida que ingresan en la zona de servicios de alimentación (No se acepta dinero al contado o cheques en la computadora para comprar el almuerzo). La computadora luego deduce la cantidad correcta de su cuenta. Se aconseja mucho que los estudiantes no revelen o digan su número PIN a nadie. Se dispone de Desayuno y Almuerzo Gratis o a Precio Reducido (Free or reduced-price) cuando las familias califican para recibir el derecho. Se requiere completar un formulario de solicitud. Se dispone del Formulario de Solicitud y más información en la oficina administrativa.

PROCEDIMIENTOS del ALMUERZO Hay dos períodos de almuerzo. El período de almuerzo de cada estudiante está determinado por su 5to. Período de Clase. El almuerzo se puede comer en la Cafetería. No se puede llevar comida o bebida de la Cafetería o afuera. Los estudiantes no pueden dejar la propiedad escolar durante el almuerzo a no ser que el que el padre/s o tutor legal del estudiante lo pase a buscar en el Counseling Center (Centro de Consejería) y reciba un pase para estar en la calle. Los estudiantes que salen de la propiedad escolar durante el almuerzo o en cualquier momento durante le horario escolar, sin el pase para estar en la calle, recibirán una acción disciplinaria de la dirección escolar y/o legal. RECUPERACIÓN de TAREAS y SOLICITUDES de TAREAS o DEBERES para hacer en CASA Se requiere que los estudiantes que están ausentes (faltan) a la escuela por cualquier razón recuperen las tareas que no hicieron en cada clase. Es la responsabilidad de cada estudiante obtener de su maestro/s las tareas escolares a recuperar en el momento de regresar a la escuela. Se espera que la tarea se termine en un tiempo considerado como se define por los maestros. Si un estudiante va a estar ausente por más de (3) días consecutivos, la solicitud de tareas o deberes para hacer en casa (homework) se puede hacer en la Attendance Office (Oficina de Asistencia) antes de las 10:00 a.m. y retirarse a las 3:30 p.m. Las solicitudes de tareas o deberes para hacer en casa se mantendrán no más de una semana en la Oficina de Asistencia escolar. LIBRO DE RECUERDOS Los libros de recuerdos están disponibles a la venta en el momento de la inscripción del estudiante y durante el año escolar. El costo de cada libro es $16.00. Nosotros hemos apartado tiempo durante la última semana de clases para firmar los libros de recuerdos (memorias), pero si su hijo/a estudiante tiene cuotas o multas escolares cuyo pago está pendiente, él o ella no recibirá su libro hasta el último día de clases y perderá el momento de firmas del libro de recuerdos. CELEBRACIÓN DE 9° GRADO Y LAGOON DAY Los estudiantes de 9° Grado deben lograr el derecho de participar en estas actividades cumpliendo con los criterios siguientes: 1. Los estudiantes deben tener un Promedio de Calificaciones y Promedio de “Citizenship” (Conducta Social) de 1.5 durante los primeros tres períodos de calificaciones (Terms) del año escolar. 2. El estudiante no debe haber estado involucrado en peleas o no cumplimiento de los Reglamentos de Seguridad Escolar, Abuso de Substancias o Molestia o Acoso Sexual. 3. Los estudiantes que son suspendidos durante el 4° período de calificaciones (Term) no calificarán para asistir al Día de la Celebración o “Lagoon Day” (Día de Lagoon). 4. Los estudiantes que tienen detenciones ASD pendientes no pueden participar de las actividades del Día de Celebración o “Lagoon Day” (Día de Lagoon). 5. Los estudiantes deben haber pago todas las cuotas o multas para participar en las actividades del Día de Celebración o “Lagoon Day” (Día de Lagoon). Se entregará a todos los estudiantes, que tienen el derecho de asistir a las actividades, el formulario de permiso para asistir a Lagoon, el cual debe ser firmado y devuelto por el padre/s o tutor legal (junto con otra información pertinente sobre costos, etc.)

ARTÍCULOS NO ESCOLARES Los artículos no escolares tal como MP3 players, walkmans, cintas, CD’s, CD players, juguetes, juegos electrónicos, dados, palos de baseball, pelotas, pagers, teléfonos, tablas de patinar, patines, etc., no deben traerse WEST LAKE – Student Planner 2013-2014

a la escuela. Los empleados escolares confiscarán los artículos que no cumplen con este reglamento. Estos artículos serán devueltos de acuerdo al Reglamento de Artículos Confiscados -Retirados (Confiscated Items). Los artículos que pueden usarse por deterioro de la propiedad (vandalismo) (encendedores, spray de pintura, marcadores, etc.) no se devolverán al estudiante. No se puede andar sobre tablas de patinar, patines y similares en la propiedad escolar en todo momento. Los padres que requieren que su hijo/a estudiante tenga un teléfono celular deben presentar una explicación por escrito expresando la razón a la dirección escolar. Todos los artículos que estén en la escuela dos semanas después de fin de cursos se donarán a la caridad. La esuela no es responsable por los artículos perdidos o robados, aún si se guardan en los lockers del corredor o el gimnasio. EXHIBICIÓN PÚBLICA de AFECTO No es aceptable la exhibición o muestra pública de afecto. Al principio, los estudiantes serán avisados durante el no cumplimiento. Si la conducta continúa, los padres serán notificados y se tomará una acción disciplinaria. RUTA de CAMINO SEGURO a la ESCUELA Las rutas de camino principal y las áreas de preocupación de los estudiantes que caminan a la Escuela West Lake Junior High son: • Cuando se camina a la escuela, caminen hacia adelante y usen las rutas principales de acceso a la Escuela West Lake Junior High siguientes: Christy Avenue, Tess Avenue, 3100 South, 3450 West y 3500 South. • Cuando cruzan la calle, usen solamente las zonas de cruce de peatonal (personas) claramente marcadas. • Si ustedes viven en la zona Oeste de Bangerter Highway, usen el puente de peatones (personas) que cruza Bangerter Highway en 3100 South. • No crucen Bangerter Highway en 3500 South. • Las calles de preocupación principal para los estudiantes que caminan son Bangerter Highway, 3600 West, 3200 West y 2700 West. Éstas son calles principales de la Cuidad de West Valley. Por favor usen extremo cuidado cuando caminan y cruzan estas calles. Solamente crucen estas calles en las intersecciones que están claramente marcadas para el cruce de peatones (personas). • Si ustedes vienen del lado Oeste de West Lake Junior High usen Christy Avenue como ruta de acceso principal. • Si ustedes vienen del Norte de West Lake Junior High usen Tess Avenue como ruta de acceso principal. REGLAMENTO DE SEGURIDAD ESCOLAR Los actos de comportamiento criminal que ponen a la persona en peligro inminente están prohibidos en la escuela, en la propiedad escolar, de ida y regreso de la escuela, en las actividades sancionadas por la escuela, cuando los estudiantes se transportan en los vehículos enviados por el distrito o en otros lugares donde tal comportamiento amenaza o daña la escuela, la propiedad escolar o a las personas asociadas con la escuela. Los estudiantes que no cumplen con el Reglamento de Seguridad Escolar serán siempre referidos a la policía para recibir acciones legales y serán suspendidos para recibir disciplina administrativa del distrito escolar, la cual puede retirar al estudiante de la escuela hasta por un año escolar. Las infracciones o no cumplimiento del Reglamento de Seguridad Escolar incluyen, pero no están limitados a:  Ataque o agresión física, agresión física agravada  Toda forma de actividad o conducta de pandilla callejera (gang)  Todo tipo de conducta criminal  Incendio premeditado (arson)  Molestia o acoso sexual (así como otras formas de molestia o acoso)  Hazing (Acoso de grupo)  Robo o hurto, hurto agravado  Vandalismo o deterioro, graffiti, destrucción o deterioro de la propiedad escolar  Posesión, control, amenaza o uso presente de un arma real, falsa o fingida  Posesión, distribución o venta de substancias ilegales  Todo acto que involucra el uso de fuerza física o la amenaza de uso de fuerza contra la vida o la propiedad sin considerar la intención del hecho.  Desobediencia voluntaria o desafío persistente de la autoridad  Todo lo que coloque a la persona(s) en estado de peligro inminente  Los actos de desobediencia voluntaria frecuente o flagrante, desafío a la autoridad apropiada o comportamiento que interrumpe del estudiante

Ambos, los directores/administradores de la escuela y el distrito escolar seguirán el debido proceso como se detalló en el Reglamento de Seguridad Escolar (School Safety Policy). REGLAMENTO de MOLESTIA o ACOSO SEXUAL El Distrito Escolar de Granite tiene un reglamento de cero tolerancia a la molestia o acoso sexual, el cual gobierna a todos los estudiantes y empleados de la escuela. Tolerancia cero significa que las alegaciones de acoso sexual serán investigadas la primera y toda vez que se informen. Toda persona que es acosada sexualmente debe informar el incidente a los padres o tutores legales, la dirección escolar, los consejeros, los maestros o la policía. Está estrictamente prohibida toda forma de acoso o molestia sexual de los empleados o los estudiantes, inclusive toda conducta verbal, escrita o física inapropiada. Aquellas personas que inculpan con falsedad o liviandad, serán disciplinadas también. Copias de este reglamento se encuentran en la oficina administrativa. BOLAS DE NIEVE Cuando nieva, los estudiantes deben dejar la nieve en el piso. Está prohibido arrojar bolas de nieve y pondrá al estudiante ofensor bajo una acción disciplinaria. Los estudiantes que arrojan bolas de nieve a los automóviles no están cumpliendo la ley y serán enviados a la policía, así como serán disciplinados por la escuela. DÍA ESPIRITOSO (SPIRIT DAY) Cada día miércoles es un día espiritoso en la Escuela West Lake. Nosotros animamos a los estudiantes y los empleados a usar su mejor t-shirt (camisetas playera), sudaderas u otra ropa relacionada a la escuela. SUSPENSIÓN Cuando un estudiante es suspendido, el padre/s o tutor legal/es será comunicado SI ES POSIBLE. El estudiante será autorizado a salir con el padre/s o tutor legal/es o el estudiante puede ir caminando o en automóvil al hogar con una persona que el padre/s o tutor legal/es ha designado. Si el padre/s o tutor legal/es no puede ser comunicado, el estudiante puede ser enviado (con el oficial de policía) al Juvenile Receiving Center (177 W. Price Ave.) (Centro de recepción Juvenil). Los estudiantes no serán readmitidos a la escuela hasta que el padre/s o el tutor legal y el estudiante se reúnan con un director/a escolar y se haya logrado un compromiso para resolver el problema. REGLAMENTO de LLEGADA TARDE a CLASE y la ESCUELA Se espera que los estudiantes lleguen a la hora a la escuela y a clase. Las consecuencias por llegar tarde serán las siguientes por cada clase: Las consecuencias empiezan después de estar tarde más de 3 veces en cada clase. • 3=conversación con el maestro/maestra • 4=Maestro/Maestra llama a la casa le quitan un punto en el numero de puntuación ciudadanía • 5= cero en la puntuación ciudadanía • 6= quedarse después de la escuela 20 minutos con el maestro/maestra de el periodo cuatro • 7=Reunión con la administración y los padres y el estudiante Las llegadas tarde a clase/escuela crónicas darán como resultado el envío del estudiante a la corte de faltas voluntarias (truancy court) y pueden involucrar a la policía. Se llevarán a cabo Hall Sweeps (Barridas del Corredor) de vez en cuando. Al estudiante que llega tarde a la escuela o clase durante la barrida se le asignará a la detención ASD. Los maestros pueden ofrecer la opción de permitir que las llegadas tarde se recuperen durante el período de calificaciones (term) que los estudiantes están siendo calificados. TELÉFONO El teléfono escolar es para asuntos de la escuela SOLAMENTE. Los estudiantes serán permitidos usar el teléfono del Counseling Center (Consejería) SOLAMENTE por emergencias tal como enfermedad o lesiones. Este teléfono no se debe usar por ningún otro propósito, y los estudiantes deben traer una nota de su maestro/a expresando la naturaleza de la emergencia para ser permitido usar el teléfono del Counseling Center.

TUTORES en la BIBLIOTECA (MEDIA CENTER)

Se dispone de tutores maestros de inglés, matemáticas y estudios sociales cada mañana de clase en la escuela desde las 7:00 a 7:30 a.m. Los estudiantes que asisten al programa del tutor deben ingresar a través de la puerta exterior del Media Center. Los estudiantes que deciden participar deben participar activamente mientras reciben ayuda del tutor en el Media Center. La escuela abre para los estudiantes que no participan en el programa del tutor a las 7:30 a.m. El Media Center está abierto cada día de clases escolares a todos los estudiantes a partir de las 7:00 a 7:45 a.m. y desde las 2:45 a 3:00 p.m. (excepto los días viernes). Además, los estudiantes pueden usar el Media Center durante el día con el permiso o acompañado por su maestro/a. OBJETOS DE VALOR Los estudiantes deben dejar todos los objetos de valor en el hogar. Cuando es necesario traer objetos de valor a la escuela (tal como dinero, etc.), los estudiantes deben traerlos a la oficina administrativa para guardarlos en el cofre hasta que se necesiten. Por favor recuerden que el casillero del estudiante no es un lugar seguro. La escuela no asume responsabilidad por los artículos que se ponen en el casillero o “locker” del estudiante. VISITANTES Se anima a los padres o tutores legales a visitar la Escuela West Lake; sin embargo, nosotros no permitimos a otros visitantes, miembros de la familia o amigos a asistir a las clases con nuestros estudiantes. Las personas que visitan la escuela deben informarlo en la oficina administrativa y obtener un pase de visitante. Los padres que desean visitar una clase deben obtener permiso de la dirección escolar y el maestro/a antes de su visita. PROGRAMA de ASISTENCIA del ESTUDIANTE de WEST LAKE JR. HIGH Nosotros queremos que ustedes estén en conocimiento de algunos temas de nuestro Reglamento de Asistencia Escolar que pueden ayudarle a usted. 1. Cuando su hijo/a está enfermo, por favor llámenos al teléfono 385-646-5255 o envíe una carta o nota al día siguiente. Nosotros solamente aceptamos faltas justificadas o con excusa de los padres de 2 semanas de atrás. Por favor vea la copia del Reglamento de Asistencia del Distrito de Granite. 2. Si existe una condición médica que no permita que su hijo/a asista a la escuela, usted tiene que avisar al consejero/a, director/a o a la oficina de asistencia en su situación. Cuando usted lleva a su hijo/a al doctor o dentista durante el horario escolar, por favor traiga una nota del doctor de regreso a la escuela. Nosotros podemos sacar una copia y entregarle el documento original si lo necesita. Además, usted puede enviarnos un fax o hacer que la oficina del doctor nos envíe por fax el documento al 385-646-5260. Por favor haga que el doctor incluya en el documento las fechas de falta a la escuela del estudiante. 3. Si su hijo/a estudiante ha tenido problemas de asistencia en el pasado, por favor comuníquese con nosotros así podemos ayudarle para que su estudiante asista a la escuela. 4. Si ustedes salen de vacaciones por un período de tiempo, ustedes necesita comunicarse con la escuela con anterioridad así los maestros pueden entregarle a su estudiante tareas escolares para hacer en casa (homework). 5. Si su hijo/a se enferma o tiene una cita durante el horario escolar, él o ella necesita la autorización de salida del Counseling Center (Centro de Consejería) y se le debe entregar un pase de calle antes de salir de la propiedad escolar. 6. Por favor asegúrese que tenemos información actualizada del padre/s o tutor legal/es, números de teléfono y direcciones. Nuestros registros deben estar actualizados en caso de emergencia. 7. Si usted recibe un llamado de la escuela expresando que su hijo/a estudiante está faltando a clases, por favor llame al teléfono 385-646-5255 para verificar la información. No asuma que es un error de parte de la escuela. Estamos aquí para ayudar a su hijo/a a tener éxito escolar, pero no podemos alcanzar esta meta sin la participación del padre/s y el estudiante. Nosotros necesitamos que los estudiantes y los padres participen activamente en la asistencia escolar de la Escuela West Lake. Los estudiantes necesitan estar en la escuela CADA DÍA, TODO EL DÍA Y EN HORA. Estos hábitos ayudarán a obtener el éxito futuro de su estudiante.
