3. Translation of the conversation Ben–What’s Christmas like in Spain? Marina–Well… compared with England it lasts a long time. Ben–Mhmm Marina–…And above all it’s a very family occasion. Ben–OK. We meet the family a lot. Marina–Mhmm. Ben–Really? Marina–Yes. Ben–Well, and when does it all start? Marina–Well, it starts on the 24th, which is Christmas Eve. Ben–The 24th of December is called Nochebuena. Marina–Mhmm. Ben–And what happens on Christmas Eve? Marina–Well, it’s celebrated with a family dinner. Ben–With the family, OK. Marina–Yes, a really delicious meal, and with turrón. Ben–And does Santa Claus come on the 24th, like he does in England? Marina–In some houses yes. In Spain he’s called Papa Noel, but in a lot of houses The Three Kings come instead. Ben–Ah, but that’s later. Marina–Yes, later on. Ben–On January 6th. Marina–Mhmm. Ben–OK, so the 25th, in my country, in England, is the most important day of Christmas. Marina–Yes. Ben–We give each other lots of presents. Marina–Mhmm. Ben–And what happens here on the 25th? Marina–Well, in some houses presents are exchanged, but what happens in nearly all the families is that the 25th is celebrated with a meal. Ben–Another meal. Marina–Yes. Ben–OK. Marina–But we don’t eat turkey.
