2. Transcript of the conversation PART 1 Ben–Yo tengo tres hermanas, y la pequeña – que no es muy pequeña – tiene 26 años y se llama Rebekah. ¿Cómo es Rebekah? Marina. Marina–Rebekah es alta y rubia, y es muy inteligente. Ben–Sí, es la más lista de la familia. Es periodista y vive y trabaja en Londres. Y… Marina–Mhm. Y habla muchos idiomas. Ben–Habla español… Marina–Francés. Ben–Igual que yo, o mejor que yo. ¿Qué más? Marina–Francés. Ben–Portugués. Marina–Y un poco de Alemán. Ben–¡Es una máquina! Bueno, luego la mediana se llama Naomi, y pues Naomi ¿Dónde vive? Marina–Vive en Toulouse, en Francia, y está casada con un chico francés. Ben–Sí. Que se llama Tomas, y están muy contentos en Francia, porque en Francia se come muy bien. Y también es rubia y muy alta, casi más alta que yo. Marina–Tan alta como Ben. Ben–Sí. Bueno y la última es Ellie. Ellie es la mayor ¿sabes cuantos años tiene? Marina–Como yo, tiene 32. Ben–Sí. ¿Y qué hace? Marina–Ellie es una artista Ben–Sí, hace dibujos increíbles. ¿Y cómo es? Marina–Ellie tiene el pelo rizado y se parece mucho a Ben. Ben–¿Tú crees? Marina–¡Sí! Ben–Yo también tengo el pelo muy rizado. También quiero hablar de mi padre, porque mi padre es un padre muy guay. ¿Por qué? Marina–Porque tiene 64 años y el año pasado aprendió a montar en moto. Ben–Sí, y ahora tiene dos motos. Una Ducati y una Harley Davidson. Estoy muy celoso. Marina–Y él está muy contento con sus motos.

Es igual de alta que yo, y tiene el pelo del mismo color, que es color marrón. Ben–Y Marta ¿está trabajando o estudiando? Marina–Marta está estudiando en la universidad y está estudiando para ser profesora de inglés para niños. Ben–Muy bien, y ahora vamos a hablar de tu hermano. Tu hermano es mayor que tú. Marina–Mi hermano es dos años y medio más mayor que yo. Se llama Isaac y tiene dos niños pequeños. Ben–¿Cómo es? Marina–Es castaño y es igual de alto que Ben. Ben–Ahora, muy importante ¿cuál es su trabajo? Marina–Es piloto de helicópteros. Ben–Sí, para mi tu hermano es como 007. ¡James Bond! Marina–¡Le va a encantar! Ben–¡Claro! Piloto de helicópteros, ¡increíble! Sí, me gusta mucho su trabajo. Bueno ¿y tus padres? Marina–Vale, mi padre es arquitecto. Y tiene el pelo muy rizado y los ojos azules. Ben–Qué no es muy normal en España. Marina–No es común. Y mi madre ayuda a mi padre en la oficina. Y somos iguales, que me parezco mucho a mi madre.

3. Translation of the conversation PART 1 Ben–I have three sisters, and the smallest – who isn’t very small – is 26 and is called Rebekah. What is Rebekah like, Marina? Marina–Rebekah is tall and blond, and is very intelligent. Ben–Yes, she is the cleverest in the family. She is a journalist and she lives and works in London. And… Marina–Mmmmm. And she speaks lots of languages. Ben–She speaks Spanish… Marina–French. Ben–As well as me or better than me... What else? Marina–French. Ben–Portuguese. Marina–And a bit of German. Ben–She is very productive! Well, next, the middle one is called Naomi, and where does Naomi live? Marina–She lives in Toulouse, in France, and she is married to a French guy. Ben–Yes. He is called Tomas, and they are very happy in France, because in France you eat very well. She is also blond and very tall, almost taller than me! Marina–As tall as Ben. Ben–Yes. Well, the last one is Ellie. Ellie is the oldest, do you know how old she is? Marina–The same as me, she is 32. Ben–Yes, and what does she do? Marina–Ellie is an artist. Ben–Yes, she draws amazing pictures. And what is she like? Marina–She has curly hair and looks a lot like Ben. Ben–Do you think so? Marina–Yes! Ben–I also have very curly hair. I also want to talk about my father, because my father is a very cool father. Why? Marina–Because he is 64 years old and last year he learnt to ride a motorbike. Ben–Yes, and now he has two motorbikes. A Ducati and a Harley Davidson. I’m very jealous. Marina–And he is very happy with his motorbikes.

PART 2 Ben–What is your family like, Marina? Marina–I have a brother and a sister, my little sister is called Marta and she is 24. Ben–And what is she like, is she as pretty as you? Marina–Prettier than me! She is the same height as me and her hair is the same colour, which is brown. Ben–And is Marta working or studying? Marina–Marta is studying at the university, and she is studying to be an English teacher for children. Ben–Great, and now we are going to talk about your brother. Your brother is older than you. Marina–My bother is two and a half years older than me. He’s called Isaac and he has two small children. Ben–What is he like? Marina–He has brown hair and he is as tall as Ben. Ben–Now, very important, what is his job? Marina–He is a helicopter pilot. Ben–Yes, I think your brother is like 007, James Bond! Marina–He is going to love that! Ben–Of course… a helicopter pilot, incredible! Yes, I really like his work. Well, and your parents? Marina–OK, my father is an architect. And he has very curly hair and blue eyes. Ben–Which isn’t very normal in Spain. Marina–It isn’t common, no. And my mother helps my father in the office. And we are very similar, I look a lot like my mother.

5. Cool Spanish! We’ve been using the phrase ¡Qué Rollo! a lot when talking about homework, or washing up – meaning of cause “What a pain!”, or “What a nightmare!” Well, if you really enjoy complaining, then there is another great phrase you can learn as well: Estoy harto de + verb – I’m fed up with… For example: Estoy harto de fregar – I’m fed up with washing up Estoy harto de hacer los deberes – I’m fed up with my homework Estoy harto de trabajar los sabados – I’m fed up with working on Saturdays You can also use it with nouns or poeple: Estoy harto de los atascos – I’m fed up with traffic jams Estoy harto del ruido – I’m fed up with the noise Estoy harto de ti – I’m fed up with you Estoy harto de mi hermano – I’m fed up with my brother
